“Good budget hotel with free parking”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

I liked this place a lot. It's between Koreatown and Hollywood and not convenient to public transport, but if you have a car, it's nicely located with free parking (a rarity in LA). The restored lobby had a nice 20's feel to it, the room was small and simply furnished, but clean and adequate. (Remember that when the place was built in 1927, any hotel room with a private bath was a "luxury room.") The staff was courteous and efficient. My room had a small refrigerator and yes, I really did have a view of the Hollywood sign across the city.

Booked this thru Orbitz for a fantastic price. The hotel itself is an old apartment building that was made into a hotel. It definitely has that 1920s feel to it (yes old lol). The best part about this hotel was the elevator (I am not being sarcastic) its an old straight out of twilight elevator I have NEVER seen anything like it, it was really cool ( although i was hoping to not get sent to another dimension in it) there was enough space for one person and one luggage.

The room was very spacious. I had a corner room facing the parking lot. There was a mini fridge and tv with directv, a very large closet and the bathroom was kinda small though.

Be aware they leave the ac off and the windows open so it was rather stuffy when got to the room. I left the do not disturb sign out so that i can come back to a cold room.

The staff are very pleasant and the front desk person gave me a great suggestion for dinner right next door.

The hotel offers free parking and one side of the hotel you can see the Hollywood sign from the rooms.
It was easy to get to from the highway and I didnt find the area bad at all. It is right next to Paramount studios.
The hotel is very convenient to the touristy LA things like the Chinese Theater, hollywood highland center and the walk of fame.
Overall I would definitely stay here again for the price its well worth it.

Hollywood Historic Hotel in LA is a great place to stay. It takes you back in time to the glamorous days of Hollywood with pictures of the classic stars on the walls. Location was safe; staff-- especially Beti, very helpful and courteous; price was right; and room very clean. We stayed on an upper floor on the street side and enjoyed the sounds of the city with the window open until it warmed up and we turned the air conditioning on. This is not one of your cookie-cutter new modern hotels, it is one with charm, dignity, and ambiance. Free wifi and free parking. Very well maintained and a gorgeous lobby. No breakfast but there is a cafe nearby as well as a small grocery store. Big Blue bus comes by front door and the Orange bus on the corner.

Room Tip: Upper floor on street side is fun--enjoy sounds of city with window open until you want to turn on a...

If you are looking for something unusual, this is it. We enjoyed staying for the ambiance. No phones in the rooms, no refrigerator, not even ice machines. If we were looking for those things we would have booked somewhere else. The rooms were smaller but larger enough. Super clean, gated parking lot. You are close enough to drive to tourist attractions, without having to get on the freeways. The staff went out of their way to be helpful. It was like stepping back in time. Would come back again.

i read all the reviews and put it down to other guests expecting to much but the reviews are correct. grand old entrance and foyer that looks good staff at reception great very helpful but they couldnt compensate for the rooms. small room small fridge no mircowave no phone bed was terrible didnt get a good nights sleep.

i like to sleep with aircon going under blankets but bed only had flat sheet and 1 small "blanket" . went dow and asked for heavier blanket advised they only have linen service and offered towels to put over us. they did find another light blanket but didnt help much.

to top off read tripadvisor reviews on last days and seen bedbug warning pulled back sheets and found dead brown bugs in bed. couldnt say 100% they were bed bugs but they sure looked like it.

overall find yourself a comfortable room for you travels this one wont do

We enjoyed our stay at the Hollywood Historic Hotel. Rooms are very basic but clean, bathroom small but functional, desk clerk helpful, parking free (a rarity in LA). Our room had one of the strange closets with a 10' high rod with hangers permanently attached to the rod. There was a lower rod we could use, so it wasn't really a problem. We just found it funny, one of the many things that gave the hotel some character. I would much rather stay at a place like this than a cookie-cutter chain hotel.

If you enjoy European hotels that have no modern amenities than this is your place. No phone in room, musty odor, no ice machine, no baggage carts, tiny 1930 model elevator, no central air, 6'×5' bathroom, stiff mattress and poor location. The $120 rate was the only good thing.
