“Best Beds Ever + Happy Hour”
Reviewed 28 September 2012

3 months later, and we can't stop thinking about the beds at BLVD Studio City. Draw the curtains and you might never get out to see the city. The happy hour was also an awesome incentive to stick around the hotel: free wine and beer? A great way to wind down the day or start the night. Area of town leaves a bit to be desired, but its walking proximity to Poquito Mas and Sun Cafe make up for the need to drive for most everything else (it is LA after all). We would definitely recommend BLVD and/or stay here again.

The BLVD Hotel is in Studio City on Ventura Blvd. It's very close to 101 Freeway and near Universal Studios. Our room faced Ventura Blvd & Freeway so had significant street & freeway noise. Rooms with odd numbers face away from street & freeway. It had nice TV with DirecTV. The king size bed was comfortable. The bathrooms only has a shower, no tub. Our hair dryer didn't work. There is free WiFi in room, but ours was slow and only worked in corner of room. WiFi was available in lobby. There was a party in room next to us till 3 am, and sound carries easily in this hotel. Parking is $15, but some free parking on street in front of hotel. Little bar and breakfast area in lobby (continental). Very small indoor-outdoor pool off of parking lot under hotel. Refrigerator & microwave in room. Coffee in room. People were nice. With air conditioner running street noise not so bad. Modest hotel but clean & comfortable.

Room Tip: Rooms with odd numbers face away from freeway and street and are quieter.

I stayed overnight at the BLVD last week and was so thankful that I found this hotel. On a spur of the moment trip, we arrived after midnight with no reservation after driving over 3 1/2 hours. The staff of the BLVD gave us a warm welcome at this late hour, and fortunately for us, this 30 room boutique hotel happened to have a vacancy. This was our first visit to the BLVD, but it won't be our last. The room was beautifully decorated, large and clean and the beds were fabulous. I was over 100 miles away on my way home, when I discovered that I had accidentally left my cell phone behind in the lobby's seating area. The BLVD staff found my phone and immediately mailed it to me. Even MTV likes this hotel -- they were filming a reality show scene in the lobby in the morning.

Stayed one night after arriving at LAX from Australia.

We arrived very early (9am) and unfortunately we couldn't check into a room. But they held our bags in their secure office while we went to Universal. It's a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel to the Universal Studio shuttle buses which are always running throughout the day. After being at Universal till 4-5pm we returned and checked in.

Room was quite large and clean. Good shower, comfy bed. Not much noise so didn't have trouble sleeping. Went to dinner at a restaurant which was a 5 minute walk down the road (Miceli's I think) which was Italian and the wait staff sung with a piano player throughout the evening. Quite entertaining. There are a few other restaurants up and down the same street. No restaurant in the hotel itself. Only a small bar and a snack type vendor in the lobby.

Would recommend for a short stay and if you are just going to LA for Universal, which is what we did.

This hotel has a lovely european style and feel. I loved the hardwood floors, perfect for someone like myself who has allergies! The shower was a little hard to figure out, but once I did, it was all good. The sink was lovely, too! The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is right down the street from one of my all time favorite restaurants, Zach's. I highly suggest people dine there, nice family owned restaurant. If you're into getting ink done, Studio City Tattoo is the place to go. Ask for Jose, he's the best!

Room Tip: Check out travelocity, that's where I found the best rates.

There is a lot to like about this modern hotel. Firstly, the location. It is on quite a busy road but it is a five minute walk from the subway that links you very easily to downtown LA and beyond. We had toyed with staying more centrally but I am so glad we avoided the noise and grime and stayed here. It is also a short walk from Universal Studios, which makes your visit there very easy too. You can ditch your hire car and survive very well on public transport from here (a lot less stressul!)

As for the hotel itself, it is small but very modern and well finished. Reception staff were knowledgeable and helpful. We went for a room with a separate living area and this was well worth it. You get the two big beds in one part of the room with TV etc, then a sofa, fridge, microwave, table and another TV in the second part of the room. Very spacious bathroom too. Everything is modern, e.g. an electric DND/please make up room.

There is a lovely little bar, complete with big sport screens in the american way. There is a happy hour for residents each evening; a nice way to mark your arrival.

There is a small supermarket also within walking distance. We stocked up there because there isn't an inclusive breakfast but with the separate living area you can easily do that.

Not cheap but nothing is in LA and this was definitely worth paying for.

Room Tip: Ask for the ones with separate living area

When I checked in there were a group of shady characters in the lobby who had jsut been in a fist fight (not kidding). The room was not very clean and the bed was very uncomfortable. I had to cut my trip short and asked the front desk for an early checkout which hey agree to. After I left they went ahead and charged me for another night and refused to even discuss it with me. Don't walk away....run!!!
