I'll admit, I was a little skeptical of this place because it looked like a real "boutique" hotel. I've been to those before, and I'm usually disappointed.
This is not a boutique hotel. While it does have some definite charm, it is really a full scale 4 or even 5 star type hotel. And you'll pay for it.
The check in process was exactly as described by other reviewers here. They bring you into the main lobby, sit you at the bar, and offer you free drinks while they check you in. I've never experienced that at any other hotel, and it's a nice touch. We had an issue because they did not have our reservation in their system. (Apparently it was an issue with the site I booked it on (booking.com). They booked in for Dec 2014!) While this was not the hotels fault, they really did not handle it properly, almost making it seem like it was my fault even though I showed them the reservation confirmation with the right dates. Eventually, I was able to procure the correct room and we were on our way.
The room is really nice. We stayed in a premium room double w/ a beverly hills view. The view is simply incredible.
But therein lies the problem with this hotel. You NEED to stay in a beverly hills view room. The other side of the hotel is garbage. The rooms are nice, but the view is horrible and it's so loud from the street noise that it's not worth staying.
The service overall is really great and professional, with the same level you'd expect at other five star resorts.
The entire hotel has a great motif, with white accents and cool art, without being too pretentious or hipster. That's hard to pull off, but they did. Kudos to the designer/interior decorator.
Our toilet became clogged twice over the 2 nights we were there, and were fixed both times. I have a feeling it was from bad plumbing and not anything on our end.
The valet service is expensive (35 dollars/day) but really, really well run. Our car was waiting in under 5 minutes each and every time we asked for our car, which was quite often. They even offered to keep our in their garage because we wanted to keep the top down and we were worried about rain. They also have a text valet service where you just text your valet number and they get your car without you calling. This did not work when we tried it.
Beds were very comfortable and the bathroom (rain shower:)) was awesome. They have an Ipod radio, but like all other hotels I've been to recently, it only takes the older model ipods/iphones.
Overall, this is a really well run, service oriented, and gorgeous hotel. The only problem is they pigeon hole you into paying more for the beverly hills view, which really is more of a necessity than an upgrade.
