Booked our hotel choice for LA through Hotwire and unfortunately that was the biggest mistake I've made when choosing a hotel. It obviously wasn't the Dixie's fault that I gambled on a 'mystery hotel' but once the Dixie's name was revealed after payment, I was bitterly disappointed, especially after reading reviews on TA.
However, thought I would give it a go and managed to navigate from LAX on the tube to the Dixie. The receptionist was really nice, showed us to our room and informed us of the wifi password. I tried to be optimistic, but upon opening the room door, it was as expected. Dark, lifeless, not particularly clean and very basic. We only ended up staying here one night and swiftly checked out!! Couldn't face a week long stay there.
The impetus for checking out was finding two cockroaches in our room, plus it wasn't a very safe area. Ralph's is across the road however, which is extremely handy. It's not particularly close to the wall of fame, and it's a good 15 minute walk. The wifi is also terribly slow.
The redeeming features of this hotel are the free parking and that the staff did assist us with hotel relocation. They even let us use the landline to call Hotwire to negotiate the a refund.
Do not stay here unless you're after a basic room for one night.
