The food here is very good, especially for the price. Strongly recommend the mole and Tlayuda. Everyone enjoyed their meal from shrimp cocktail to Tlayuda to tamales. Good food worth a side trip.

The restaurant is very large and the night we went they had mariachis which were very good. They had an amazing selection of Mezcal and tequila. The margaritas were excellent. The chips with mole were very tasty, so we had high hopes for our dinners. Their menu is a bit confusing because the descriptions don't adequately describe what you are ordering. I thought I was getting what sounded like a tostada with some unusual toppings, but in fact was more like a huge Mexican pizza on very hard tortillas that could have easily fed three people. The people I was with were also surprised when they received their meals. We were anxious to try Oaxacan food, but unfortunately, the food we ordered was bland and disappointing.

You no longer need to cross the border for the best mole and Oaxacan food. Right in the heart of Los Angeles, La Guelaguetza serves up the an incredible array of rich mole. Along with live music at certain times of the day, the restaurant offers excellent service in a clean, friendly setting.

The place is hailed by all guidebooks, reports and web sites as one of the best true Mexican restaurants in LA, featuring authentic Oaxacan specialties. Was it a wrong evening, was the chef in a bad mood ? The mole, which can be a festival of flavors with chili, nuts and chocolate, came as a flabby bitter black spill, splashed on a tasteless chicken. The other dishes were not much better. A very disappointing dinner, nested into a grim dim-lit decorum with tired musicians joylessly doing the job for bored families.

We ended up choosing this restaurant after finding it on the LA 38 Eater list and weren't disappointed! The restaurant is in the heart of Koreatown and while it doesn't look like much on the outside, the food proved otherwise! The food is traditional Oaxacan fare with a large menu; we enjoyed the quesadilla frita (with cojita cheese), goat tacos and a mole enchilada dish (can't remember which mole or the name of the dish!) The traditional "string" cheese was delicious! We also liked that instead of traditional chips and salsa, the chips were served with mole. Do try their unique Horchata and if available, the seasonal squash, cinnamon and brown sugar drink. Enjoy!
