Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills

Reviewed 26 July 2012

Spent 4 nights here as part of the final leg of our US honeymoon and can't say enough good things about this place. Whilst it doesn't have the reputation of the Wilshire or Beverly Hills I'd rate it as good or even better in some aspects.

Firstly the rooms. We got an upgrade to a suite and the decor, layout and amenities were 5*. Free wifi throughout a hotel isn't always the norm but it was here and really makes a difference. The Wife loved the Bulgari bathroom amenities, I was loving the 3 TV's in the suite, especially the one in the bathroom so you could watch whilst in the shower or bath. Exactly what you'd expect in Beverly Hills!!

We never actually ate here, preferring to eat out, even for breakfast. Found a great little place on Robertsons (5 min walk away) which was recommended by the frontdesk staff. This brings me onto the staff which were all amazing and gave a really personal touch. The concierge was first class, getting us reservations at Ceccioni's and the Ivy to name a few and with brilliant tables as well. Not an easy task in LA. Also, their recommendations from everything from the right place to shop for something to grabbing a coffee or snack were spot on. And they were always helpful with printed directions to get somewhere and back. Best personal touch was recommending a 'normal' Chinese Takeaway who'd deliver in the small cartons you always see on TV. As a Brit we needed to try this and loved the fact that the hotel helped organise.

Also loved the use of the complimentary house cars. It's a nice touch to drop you off somewhere and a quick call when you're done and they were back to pick you up.

The pool is a great little suntrap as well. It's not the biggest but is still large enough, and makes the Wilshire one look like a bathtub by comparison. It's nice and quiet and perfect for lying back and relaxing.

As mentioned, I couldn't say enough great things about this hotel and would definitely stay here again. Location wise it's perfect to get to all the 'it' places in Beverly Hills and LA and the staff make your stay all the more comfortable.

Room Tip: Go for a Suite with a balcony!

The room are quite large, but a bit outdated, the bathroom are roomy but one sink only. Apart from this the service is 4 seasons like, the concierges are very pleasant and excellent, the bars and the restaurant are very good. Overall a very good experience and up to what is expected of a 4 seasons hotel.

Definitely worthy of the Four Seasons brand. Room was well-appointed and the iPad in the room was perfect for information or ordering room service. Room 303 faces the street and the traffic makes it a little hard to leave the balcony doors open, but it was really too hot to leave open. If interested in open air - ask for a higher floor. Exceptional staff on every level. The gardens and flowers in lobby were lovely. Pool was crowded late afternoon during the week, but no shortage of chairs or service.

Dear raible01,

Thank you for contributing a review of your experience on Trip Advisor. It is always meaningful to us, especially when a Senior Reviews shares feedback.

We have been thrilled with the installation of the iPads in our guest rooms and they have been well received thus far.

You are correct, our 4th floor pool deck is a popular spot for our hotel guests which is why we staff so many people out there. We also do not allow outside guests as we would not be able to deliver a proper Four Seasons experience.

I hope you will have the opportunity to come back west for another visit with us!

Warm regards,

My wife and I recently stayed at the Four Seasons on Doheny.

I used to stay at this hotel years ago and had very fond memories. Alas, our recent experience was of the "can't go home again variety."

We arrived late on Friday to a rather un-Four Seasons like welcome at the front desk (the warmth of the four seasons welcome is -- to me -- a big part of the brand). There was a large Chinese group checking in, so I attributed this to some circumstance.

I had booked a "deluxe balcony room." Well, don't expect much of a balcony -- dried and old plants, sparsely furnished with balcony door cracked and ill cared for. This really surprised me. I looked down the other 2nd floor balconies (we were in room 202) and they looked to be in a similar state of repair.

We were awoken the next morning early by that great California sun through the plantation shutters of a set of non-opening french doors. Not sure why they do not have a curtain in front of them. I called to complain and they offered to black out the window, which we preferred to changing rooms during our short stay.

There were other careless touches. For example, the water pressure from the sink is bizarrely strong -- it's torrent of water splashing against the sink bowl.

The staff performance was mixed -- again, just not the uniform excellence I expect from the Four Seasons brand.

There was a hollywood promotion for a film on our floor during the stay. Some might enjoy the "hollywood connection" and others might be put off by the hustle and bustle. It is a bit odd to stage a public event on a hotel floor but truthfully it neither bothered (nor excited us).

We ate ate the restaurant with some local friends -- that was excellent. It was as if the locals require a higher standard of hospitality than is offered by the hotel (similarly, Friday and Saturday night were just swarmed with locals at the hotel -- I am not sure if it was for an event or is regular traffic).

Checking out in the evening (not as a courtesy -- we paid through the evening to have use of the room) -- we were not asked if we enjoyed our stay. I took this as a sign the staff is aware that things are off kilter. I had hoped to share our experience with a manager but figured at that point -- why bother.

My wife enjoyed her spa appointment. We both felt the pool breakfast was a bit off. For example, the served me a fermented grapefruit juice and were not the least bit apologetic when I sent it back. Not rude or unkind -- just not "four seasons."

Let me say it is still a beautiful property. However, the level of service and the care for the property is below the chain (or at least what I think of as the standard for the chain). It was an unpleasant surprise.

Room Tip: Avoid 2nd floor balcony tier.

This hotel is superb in every regard. The location is slightly removed from the hustle bustle of downtown Beverly Hills, which allows you to feel removed from the crowds and tourist traps. However, the hotel has drivers on call who will pick you up and drop you off in the hotel's Bentley so you are never out of reach from any of the action. The pool is great and the rooms are comfy. I have lived in LA for long time and stayed at many of the city's hotels. This is the top choice.

First time for us at a four seasons- 4 of us stayed 5 days in a suite and separate rooms.
It is in a good location in Beverley Hills we had a good view over the front entrance .
Generally would say;
1. Lovely hotel, nice rooms we'll furnished and average size - could really have been bigger.
2 service and staff very good although we did not experience the personalised remembering of our names I have read about on other review.
3 great gym and nice pool
4 used the spa and had good service also
5 car valet was fast and efficient and the staff very helpful.
6 hotel itself is quite small
7 we didn't try the hotel restaurant so can't comment on that

Overall it was a nice experience but even accounting for location etc I think it may be a little overpriced compared to other hotels we have stayed in.

My husband and I recently attended an event at the Hollywood Bowl and were looking to stay at a hotel within close proximity to the concert. We chose this particular hotel based on the positive reviews on Trip Advisor. We were treated like royalty by staff and management. I highly recommend this hotel.
