“Hard to find but well worth it.”
Reviewed 7 March 2014

After reading the reviews on this hotel and the other one in the same area, I went with this. I had a really difficult time finding it but a quick call to the hotel helped. I arrived during late rush hour and then I couldn't find the entrance into the hotel. There is no parking available. Turn on to Del Ray Dr. and look for very first driveway entrance on right. It looks like an alley that goes between two buildings. There is only valet parking available which I didn't have a problem with. Night clerk was a godsend. When I couldn't figure out how to get into hotel, he actually walked out and waved me to where I was suppose to go. On first impression, I was a bit disappointed. Hotel is clearly from the 50s. It gives one the feeling of stepping back into time but then when I opened the door to the motel room itself, I was very pleasantly surprised. The rooms have been totally renovated and are really nice and classy. I was also pleased that there was no traffic that could be heard unless I opened the bathroom window. I can understand how this older antiquated hotel has received it's plus rating. I did walk at night (and alone) two blocks away to Hollywood Blvd. but I made sure to stay near other people walking. There is homeless people in the area. Staff was great to work with at the hotel as well. I would recommend this hotel to other visitors.

Room Tip: If you plan to use the pool, you might want to ask for a room on the pool level.

Our experience was very good, it was our final stop of a 4 week stay in the US, A great way to end our holiday, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, clean and well appointed. The Diner attached to the hotel "Cafe 101", was amazing, it looked like it came out of a Quentin Tarantino film, the service was excellent and the food was great. Wish we had something like it here in Australia.

Stayed here for a quick vacation in Hollywood with friends. The hotel is about a 5-15 minute walk from Hollywood Blvd and other main attractions. The hotel features awesome memorabilia from many movies and actors. The cafe attached to the hotel was always busy and seems to be a very popular place to go.

The room itself was pretty nice but noise could be heard very easily, from traffic right outside to people banging doors in the hallway. Invest in ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. On our last day, we left before 8am and returned after 3pm and the room was still not made yet and we had to request for new towels. Some of the towels had old stains on them and the shower took a while to get hot water at times. Housekeeping staff was very friendly and front desk staff was pretty nice as well. Pretty good value for a hotel in Hollywood!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the main road and a higher floor.

The hotel has an amazing photo collection displayed throughout the lobby and the corridors. Probably this is one of its main assets. Service at the front desk is friendly but not particularly helpful, I asked for an extended stay in my room, none of the staff was willing to make a decision or help in any way. I ended up sitting in the lobby for over 2 hours until my airport transfer arrived (it was raining heavily so I could not go anywhere). The room I stayed in was clean and very spacious however extremely noisy (overlooking Franklin avenue) so if you are a light sleeper, ask for a room facing the pool, they must be quieter. The windows not soundproof at all and the bathroom window was broken so it felt like being on the pavement next to the road all the time. The location is good if you want to visit the major Hollywood sights, maximum 10 minutes walk from Hollywood boulevard (metro station, restaurants, Starbucks). Other than this pretty average stay with not an excellent value for money ($700 for 4 nights compared to other nearby hotels for slightly more than half the price and probably in a quieter area and breakfast included).

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing Franklin avenue as they are extremely noisy. No soundproof windows and lot of noi...

This is a cool Hollywood themed hotel with a 50's modern decor that is just completing a remodel. Service was excellent and has the conveniece of a similar themed coffee shop restaurant. Only drawback is proximity to the 101 Freeway due to noise and that the single pane windows do not adequately block the road noise. A nice toch and amenity is a monitored parking lot with complementary valet service (but there is a charge for parking).

We stayed at this hotel on a weekend trip to see "Book of Mormon" at the Pantages. We had also plans to try several restaurants and we were a little concerned about parking fees. Turned out the hotel was the perfect location to walk to everywhere we wanted to go! Just a few blocks to the Pantages. They do charge 15 bucks a night for parking which is kind of a drag but it will save you on parking fees to other places. We walked to Wood and Vine restaurant, Delphine at the W, and to the Roosevelt hotel (all recommended). Some sights were a little further away, we did those during the day with comfortable shoes (The Roosevelt, Guitar Center on Sunset, Jim Hensen Studios).
The room was nice, clean. Comfortable. The pool in the middle is nice, although too cold to swim in February. The staff was nice, and very helpful. Oh, and on our way out we tried the 101 diner next door, excellent breakfast! Heard it was a great late night hangout too.

Stay was pleasant exceptin the motorcycle that revved beneath our window at 3am and heater was loud. But location was convenient and safe to walking distance to Hollywood area. Staff was extremely helpful and restaraunt 101 Cafe was delicious. Would recommend as a home base to Universal Studios and Hollywood.
