The location of the hotel is perfect for your trip to Hollywood with Grauman's Chinese Theatre being a 5 minute walk but the hotel itself is at the end of a short street right beside the back dock of the Dolby Theatre so it is quiet and private. The Hollywood and Highland centre which is a 3 minute walk away has some great eateries and a Metro station which is a good and cheap way to easily get to Universal Studios one stop away, get a 'Tap' card which you use on the bus network as well. A 3 minute walk in the other direction takes you to 'Starline Tours' main office and pickup point so if you have any tours booked with them the location is perfect. The hotel staff are fantastic, especially the lady who runs the breakfast area she is an absolute assett to this hotel. The breakfast has a good selection of toast, bagels, oatmeal etc along with juices and tea/coffee so that's 1 meal you don't have to buy each day for a start. You can eat at a table there, if free, or take to your room or up to the rooftop garden. The rooms are clean and well kept and although the hotel is older we found no problems or annoyances and the kids enjoyed the pool. There is plenty of parking and a laundry room downstairs along with a couple of vending machines. The room has a well equiped kitchen and with a supermarket not too far along Hollowood Blvd you can easily cook at home if you wish. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful with most time the front door being buzzed open while you are still fumbling for your key. In short don't expect 5 star but then for the money you have paid you are getting real value and a location that for us was just plain perfect. I would recommend this hotel to everyone who wants the Hollywood experience.

Room Tip: Choose the King suite for families, it is 2 rooms joined by a connecting door and gives sleeping for...

Orchid Suites is in a great location -- right off of Hollywood Boulevard and behind the Hollywood and Highland Center. This was our first time in LA and we wanted to do the really touristy things--Graumann's, Hollywood Museum, walking the Boulevard, etc. so the hotel was the perfect location for us. The room was huge (like an apt) with a kitchen and a hallway to the bathroom. Yes, it is an older hotel, but it was clean, the price was great, and the staff were friendly and very helpful to us. We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to our friends.

To put this review into context following our stay at Orchid we stayed at Caesers Place in Vegas.

So we know what quality hotels are and I would say that this has some great qualities.

Firstly it is in a perfect location for a trip to Hollywood, just behind the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Chinese/Dolby theatres. It's also got a great underground parking lot ($10 a day).

Whilst the rooms are a little tired they are clean and very spacious (we had a corner room at the opposite end from the reception). This made it very quiet and we had better sleep here than either San Francisco or Vegas

The breakfast was very good (continental). There wasn't a large amount of space to sit at peak times however they are very happy for you to take food back to your room which worked well for us. This also made it easy to take a little fruit with us for snacks whilst cruising around.

The staff were great and very friendly.

As long as you don't expect room service or the most modern fixtures this is a great hotel and very good value for money.

Room Tip: Corner rooms at the far end of the hotel worked very well for us.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights last week, Feb 10 and 11th. While the hotel itself is older and in need of some TLC, we found it to be clean and welcoming. It is located directly behind Hollywood Blvd and adjacent to a mall with restaurants and shopping. We were happy to see secure underground parking for our rental car and only needed to take it out once to attend a taping of The Price is Right. Breakfast was to our liking with enough selection for us. Keep in mind that it is not a 3 or 4 "star" hotel, but it is clean and affordable for Hollywood standards. Also note that the walls are thin and if you are a light sleeper, you might have a problem. We would consider staying here again if we ever visit LA again.

We stayed here for a week over xmas and it was a great place to stay. The staff were very friendly, especially the breakfast lady.

The place is old and tired BUT you are staying in the heart of the action, surrounded by places to dine out, shopping, things to see, a short walk to the subway and so on and all for a very reasonable price.

The breakfast is sparce but enjoyable and we were able to take some extra fruit for the days travels.

The room is surprisingly spacious and well equipped. The bed was comfy and the Kitchenette well equipped. Located behind the Hollywood & Highland centre can make it a bit noisy particularly early morning (6amish) as deliveries are arriving and so on.

Would not hesitate to stay here again.

We booked this hotel in the middle of Hollywood after reading lots of great reviews. We knew it wouldnt be fancy but we didnt expect it to be this bad. I have stayed in many terrible places in the world and this hotel is overpriced. I would probably pay USD 70/night for it.
The walls are thinner than paper thin. If you want to listen to a shouting match between the rooms around you to shut up in the middle of the night, this is the place you want to be. The rooms are in dire need of an update and a lick of paint, and they wouldnt be so bad. They were spotless though, that I have to give them and the staff were extremely friendly. We travelled with a family with 2 kids and we didnt expect to get complaints already at 6pm due to the noise they were making in the swimming pool. The hotel is in the middle of Hollywood - its not exactly a quiet area. There was also not enough room for us to eat breakfast in the breakfast room and had to take what we wanted on a tray to our rooms. We booked for 4 nights but left after 1 night. I wouldnt recommend this hotel.

Sadly I see that our hotel did not meet with your approval. Let me respond to each of your many allegations.

Due to being in a most central, popular, in demand area with not enough hotels, over the years several hotels (5 out of 11) in our immediate vicinity are small converted apartment buildings (one of those is actually rated #1, even higher than we are). Those of coarse were built with long term tenants in mind who would we respectful of their neighbors as they had to live with them long term. Of those 5 we are the newest with a 1960 construction and a 1985 conversion. Sure next to some of the high end hotels we are less fancy but I am sure if you saw the improvements we make each year you would be impressed.

We cannot control who stays next to you of course so that sometimes is a bit of a problem. Had we been aware that you are having this issue with another room we would have been able to help in asking them to be quiet, we could have moved you the next day etc. However according to our records no complaint was registered. We try our best to accommodate our guests and try to insure that they all have a quiet stay. For example we have a “no party policy” which does not allow outside visitors into the hotel after 9 p.m. and we are strict regarding the noise level between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.

We want all our guests to enjoy their stay and are delighted when the pool is being used and enjoyed especially by children. Sometimes children can get noisy around a pool and if we have a complaint then we will ask the children to be a little quieter. I am sorry if you were offended as it wasn’t meant that way.

Our breakfast area is small, there are only 12 seats. However as you mentioned we offer trays for our guests to take the breakfast to another one of our other areas…a) all our rooms have nice dining tables and chairs, b) we have another sitting area by the pool, another in the patio in front of the hotel and one on the roof garden area. Besides the trays we also offer brown paper bags for those who want to take breakfast with them on the road.

You said we were overpriced and that you would only pay USD70 per night. Actually you did not pay very much more than that. The couple with two children had a suite (2 room apartment) with two queen size beds, kitchen, dining table and outdoor patio and paid $124. You actually paid only $109 and were upgraded to our Deluxe King + Sofa Suite (3 room apartment) with a king bed in the bedroom, living room furniture and pull out sofa in the living room, full kitchen and dining room and 2 flat screen TVs. You each had a car so you did each pay another $10 for parking which is also very reasonable. Considering our location, our impeccable cleanliness, friendly staff (all things that happily you did like), the free light continental breakfast and free hi speed wireless internet access I do not know where you would get a better value!

Our paint is always being attended to as we have a full time painter in addition to a full time maintenance man (for a small 39 room hotel), we will check the rooms you stayed in however. Lastly this is not a quiet area. It is in the center of the action with a huge hotel, a shopping mall, the famous Dolby Theater (Oscars) and the famous Chinese Theater right next door to us. However at night it does quiet down as evidenced by many reviewers.

Not every hotel is right for every customer. Still I am sad that you did not have a good experience with us. I would have liked a chance to make it better. We offered to move you to another room but you were determined to leave. For the inconvenience you suffered I do apologize and hope you found a more suitable accommodation for the 3 days you cut short at our hotel.

I am convinced that given our location, our rates are reasonable, that we have an outstanding staff and that our hotel is well-maintained, clean and secure

Sincerely,

Joe Blum, Owner

I really didn't know what to expect when me and my friends came to stay here. We read the reviews which were great but had been told by others that the area was a bit dodgy. We were pleasantly surprised by what we found. The staff were really friendly, the apartment we stayed in was a bit old but was far more spacious than your average 3-star hotel room. The area wasn't too bad you just have to be aware of your surroundings and stay where all the people are. Restaurants and attractions are really close. This is a great hotel for anyone on a budget.
