“Beware of hidden charges”
Reviewed 20 May 2009

We booked on Hotwire and got a great rate however there are so many hidden charges. Parking, valet only, tips everytime you need your car, Internet and the food is outrageously priced and it is not located near any other restaurants. The location is not that great, near UCLA but everything else is a drive. It took us an hour to get to Hollywood. Rooms are very small and the hotel did not feel clean. Smelled of cigarette smoke and there is no fresh air, windows do not open. The street noise is very bad. If you just want a cheap rate book it on Hotwire. Another reviewer mentioned the pool. We went out there and there is no room for more then 6-8 people and the neighbors behind the hotel look down on the pool area. Not very comfortable.

Booked a king spa suite for a weekend getaway with the girlfriend, and it was about perfect. Valet and front desk staff were all smiles and very helpful. The room was better than expected. Big, very clean, full of amenities, stylish, super comfortable bed, and the fuji soak tub rocks! The hotel has a great feel and style to it. The location was just fine, not sure what some other reviewers were expecting? LA is a very spread out destination, and the Hotel Palomar provides a nice central location. Close to Hollywood, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Griffith park, UCLA, etc. Would absolutely stay here again.

We stayed at Palomar in April 09. Compared to most hotels in Los Angeles and Calofornia in general, this place is outstanding. Quite European styled, modern and comfortable rooms and interieur, far away from the boring sand- and earth-colored US standart room boredom. We had a suite on 16th floor with large bathroom, jahcoozi, fantastic view on Los Angeles, panoramic windows. Classic!
Who does not mind surroundings with large town blocks won't be disappointed. You'll go to Santa Monica or Beverly/West Hollywood within minutes by car. Next large supermarket is 3 minutes away. A plus: free Wi-Fi. Negative, bad parking situation and expensive parking charges if you park in the hotel garage.

We booked hotel bases on reviews. The location is not very good. It is about a mile to any restaurants or activities. Restaurant and room service very expensive, the restaurant was not open for lunch. I think that was a good thing with the prices. The pool was ridicilous. Holds maybe five people. The biggest disappointment was the room size. They are so small, hardly largr enough for one, certainly not for a family. We only paid $100 a night on Hotwire and it was not worth anymore. Oh yes, be careful of the air conditioner and street noise. They advertise free internet yet charge for the business center. Staff was OK, thirty dollars to park though.

Company booked the room for me and it was pleasant enough. Modern design with some nice design touches although the common area lighting is a little too 'moody' (aka dark). Nicely sized rooms for my tastes, well kept and the staff are very polite and helpful.

Nice touches include:
- free wireless with a strong signal (still a rarity at higher priced hotels for some reason).
- Aveda bath products
- LCD tvs with actual HD feeds
- iPod docking alarm clock

Some minor things:
- windows don't open
- $40 cab ride from airport
- no bar scene unlike many boutique hotels

Fatal flaw:
- loud HVAC

My wife and I stayed at The Palomar just two weeks after the doors opened. The way that the staff attended to the property and guests was more in line with a hotel that has been open for many years.

As with other newer Kimpton properties, The Palomar is elegantly decorated with a warm, yet modern lobby and restaurants. The daily 5pm Happy Hour is a great way to transition to the evening.

Our room was a corner King suite overlooking south Westwood. The sitting area was roomy and comfortable and the bedroom and bathroom were top notch with a jet tub, colorful leopard print robes and premium bath products.

While the W is the established name in Westwood, The Palomar will be the place that I'll be staying at.

My husband and I found a super great price on Travlezoo for this hotel and am I glad I jumped on it! The Palomar is very upscale and contemporary in decor. The room was small but we were only there for 1 night. We were on a top floor so the view was spectacular! The furnishings are very hip and art deco as is the lobby. We were met by a great staff who were very helpful in getting us to all the typical Hollywood and Beverly Hills sites. Valet parking was easy and seamless and everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful. The mini-bar was the best stashed bar I have ever seen, I felt like a kid in a candy store. However, it was good for looking but the prices were high! We went to Santa Monica Pier that evening and had the best time walking the pier and playing in the arcade. It was very cool that evening but that did not deter the locals from venturing out into the dark ocean. It was really a spectacular place and worth the money. The linens were so-o-o soft and the bed was very comfortable!! This is a great location for the Beverly Hills/Hollywood traveler.
