“Honeymoon in California”
Reviewed 24 August 2009

Nice stay in Los Angeles. Beverly Hills is a very good place to stay in this enormous city. You need a car, of course but from here you have access to all places, specially Santa Monica and the beaches!!. This hotel was nice. The building is not very luxury but rooms are very big and comfy. Bathroom very nice. We were upgraded to a suite (thank you very much!!) as it was our honeymoon and the room was superb (though the jacuzzi didn't work). The room was quiet despite of our noisy neighbors who seemed to be in a permanent party all nights. Nevertheless I enjoyed the free coffee early in the morning. The only negative things is the price of the valet parking but you have no option in the whol area. Concierge was very helpful and nice. Desk staff was not so nice and everything you asked seemed to be too much for them (I can't understand this, but anyway, maybe is the usual thing). I recommed this hotel and my stay was as expected.

Overall, not a bad place to stay. The rooms are clean, the valet staff very friendly. The desk staff takes themselves a little too seriously but does try to be helpful. Unfortunately, I'm writing this having been awakened the second night in a row by drunk (and randy as they say in Britain) people coming home at 3 a.m. and then standing in the hallway to grope and argue with each other. I've called desk services twice and, although the young man there has tried to move these people along, they are still playing out their dramas in the hallway. Hold on . . . My next door neighbor has just reminded these fine young folks that they're in a hallway at 3 a.m. and the rest of us have more to do in the morning than survive a hangover. He appears to have gotten them to move into their rooms where now their dramas are muffled exchanges of stupidity rather than the blaring honks of melodrama we all had to listen to moments ago. So, the big question -- should my review hold the hotel responsible for these rude people waking everyone up for the second morning in a row? I don't know. But it's something to consider when you're trying to get a good night's sleep.

We stayed at the Palomar for one night and had a great time. The staff was friendly and accomodating! The rooms were nicely decorated but on the small side. The pool area was relaxing but not spacious - only a few lounge chairs. The food in the restaurant was fantastic. They had a free happy hour in the lobby which was fun! I would say this hotel is pretty, quaint, well appointed but not a full 4 star. I would stay again for a great price!

The hotel was fine clean smart rooms, very comfortable. Valet Parking at $30 a night was a pain if you are in and out a lot. Westwood village a pleasant stroll away with excellent choice of restaurants. Ask hotel for a map. Valet staff were very friendly, but desk staff could smile more. It can be cool to smile. Didn't even know if they had teeth. Small pool with inadequate sun beds.

The bed and the room was nice. The bathroom was a place to look at, not to use. If you're traveling by yourself it's fine but not with someone else. The bathroom has a door that slides (like a barn door) but doesn't have a lock on it and won't stay closed, no matter how hard or soft you close it, it slides open. I would rather not have the door open when I'm in the bathroom. Also, the hot and cold faucet comes out so fast when it's at medium you really don't need a shower after all. Palomar is a nice hotel but they were so busy running around saying aren't we "fabulous" they didn't get the basics down. I think the designer's should've been required to stay there, with someone else. Good location to food and shopping.

Location: 5 Stars... we were taking a tour of UCLA and the location was great.
Cleanliness: 5 Stars... I found the entire property to be very clean and of high quality
Service: 4 Stars... we really never asked for anything
Value: 3 Stars... fairly expensive
Room: 4 or maybe 3 Stars... the bathtub drain was clogged and the air conditioner was too loud to keep on at night (I couldn't sleep with the noise... bring ear plugs)

My main complaints were with the noise level of the air conditioner and the water temp. of the pool (too cold). Also, they don't have a jaccuzzi.

Other than that we enjoy our stay and dinner at the on-site restaurant.

Dear dvez,

Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences with our friends at TripAdvisor. I’m glad to hear our staff was taking great care of you and your family during your visit to UCLA. I have noted your comments on our Air Conditioning and Tub Drain and would like to be able to have one of our engineers take a look. If time permits, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you and exploring your stay further. We hope to see you on many more occasions should your son choose UCLA, go Bruins!

For your next visit don’t hesitate to call me directly, I’d personally like to arrange for your accommodations. 424.901.7262

We booked the Palomar on Expedia and stayed a total of 6 nights: 3 at the beginning of our holiday, and 3 at the end. We were very pleased with our choice, and found the hotel to be of better value than the Westin in San Francisco (see other review), which we got for a similar rate.
The location was superb, with everything on our doorstep including UCLA, Beverly Hills, Westwood village, cafes, shops, cinemas, buses, and Westwood Village Memorial Park. The area was charming and lively, while safe enough for morning jogs and late-night strolls.
The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, and guest services always responded to requests in record time. The front desk printed out directions, maps , and transport information for wherever we wanted to go.
Rooms were slightly on the small side, but Wi-Fi is free, and there were large flat-screen plasma TVs in every room and Aveda products in the bathrooms. The size of the gym was also a slight disappointment for enthusiasts: clean and modern but quite small and under-equipped for 4 star hotel standards. On the plus side, it was open 24 hours. There was a small, stylish plunge pool which many not be to everyone's liking.
Other guests were a healthy mix of business travellers, families, and couples : both american and international. We did not try the food, but there was free coffee provided in the lobby every morning. Overall, we would definitely stay here again, and would recommend the Palomar to anyone travelling to LA.
