“Best Hotel on our Tour”
Reviewed 3 September 2011

This was one of the best hotel we found in our USA trip.
It is centrally located and is beautiful heritage hotel.
Lobby is one of the best lobby.
Rooms were spacious and it was clean.
We enjoyed our stay and we will surely stay here on our next visit.

Where do I start? My husband was in Los Angeles on business and my daughter and I decided to tag along and make it a vacation. The company that he works for, has offices located just two blocks away and has an agreement with this hotel. Therefore, we didn't choose it, nor did we have to pay for it. That being said, entering the hotel lobby is like going back in time. It is spectacular! The entire 1st floor is wonderful. The staff are exceptional and are really the very best part of this hotel. From the car attendant, bartender, check-in staff to the people working room service. All these people were wonderful! The room that we had on the 8th floor, was not! I've heard that they have done renovations on the Club Level floors, but they need to renovate the entire place. Our room was roomy, but there was tape on the walls, holding things in place. The carpet was ratted and frayed. The bathroom was tiny and had holes in the walls, marks on the door and the door would not shut. I had to go to another floor to get to the ice machine, which I didn't mind, but I was the only person in the halls and it reminded me of the hotel in the movie The Shining. It just gave me a creepy feeling. My husband asked the other people there for the conference what they thought of the hotel and they all said the same thing. The lobby area is beautiful, but the rest is creepy and needs to be renovated. I've stayed at many old hotels in large cities and I loved the character and charm they possess. Letting a hotel get rundown, is not adding to it's charm. I liked the area that the hotel was in and we caught the Hop On, Hop Off bus just across the street from the hotel on Grand Avenue in order to tour Hollywood, Santa Monica, L.A., etc... We won't be staying at this hotel again, until I read a review that says that the rooms have been renovated.

We can really recommend this hotel. Safe zone to slepp, there are some bars and restaurants around the hotel. We had a rent a car, so it was no problem to arrive everywhere.

The hotel is situated in the heart of the business district of the Downtown area, within easy access of bus stops and the metro. One small downside was the number of tramps hanging around the metro station entrance and within Pershing Square (opposite hotel) which at night (when all of the business people had left) felt quite intimidating.

The hotel had a very impressive lobby but the corridors were a little tired. The room was clean, tidy and relatively spacious. It had a coffee making machine which we thought was a nice touch.

The staff at the hotel were very helpful with directions and information about the area.

We had a few cocktails in the bar which had a good atmosphere, however, we unfortunately missed the famous 'Jazz Night'.

The Downtown area has a number of tourist attractions worth seeing, including :- Central Market; Angels Flight, Union Station and Chinatown.

From this location we gained easy access to 1) Venice Beach which was a 45 minute bus ride away; 2) Universal Studios which was on a direct route from the Metro (a 2 minute walk from the hotel) and 3) Hollywood Bouvlevard, again, a direct route from the metro.

This is an old hotel, but she's still beautiful. The lobby and public spaces are very nice, the bar was cozy, and the room and bathroom were small, but nice. Beds a little soft. Old radio with ipod connector. Interior rooms have view across courtyard. Front desk service was very good, bartender was very nice. Overall, old hotel, but still good.

Beautiful building and interesting architecture. There is a pleasant grandeur to the foyer, lobby, bar and restaurant. Walking distance to the event we had at the Oviatt Penthouse, as well as a popular pub. Rooms are in need of an upgrade. Don't expect elegant, anticipate adequate.

Very central and a beautiful building, but spotty service - 20 mins queue to check in (at 10 pm!!!) but got upgraded to a suite - my colleague rang down for a plug adaptor and was told they would have to collect it themselves etc etc. Finally, Fitness Centre very dated.
