“Good for Starwood member!”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

I applied American Express Starwood card and booked this hotel on spg.com using my points. Registration was a bit slow, even around 11pm. Staff was friendly and told me they upgraded my room to suite and I have a choice of complimentary red wine or bonus 250 points. What a nice surprise!

I've got a suite room at higher floor, enjoying the nice view of downtown. Room was huge and bed was comfy.

Room Tip: free upgrade to suite with your Starwood membership

We spent a week in the Bonaventure Hotel in May 2014. We had a warm welcome at the reception desk, the room was clean and comfortable and for morning breakfast we had multiple choices from a gorgeous buffet, though BF happened to be a little pricy. Housekeping was very efficient and fast. A special remark for the concierge: they were all very responsive and friendly and provided accurate and valuable information.

The rooms are small. The internet access is pricey. And the parking is VERY expensive. I would not recommend this location at all for business. The advertised "running track" is merely a concrete pole with a line painted around it. The fitness center is nice.

everything about this hotel is frustrating, sub-par, and disappointing.

i was checked into a room next to the elevator, which is disturbed all day and night by the glass elevator noisily & invasively zooming by your window and the constant bell sound of the elevator stopping outside your door. my room was also not adequately cleaned...there were hairs in the sheets, and items left from the prior guest. i was told the hotel was full and i would not be allowed to move rooms until the next day. however, the next day, 3 staff members refused to move me until, after being transferred to 3 or 4 different extensions, i finally was assigned to a new room by a manager.

the new room smelled of sewage my entire stay. there was the disturbance of blaring dance music day and night. the bed was made so that the 6 inches at the foot of the mattress were not even covered by the sheet. both rooms were small. the water would barely get warm enough to take a comfortable shower. i had to let the faucet run for 10 minutes to work up even a lukewarm temperature.

parking is $42/day (valet only), and i had to wait in line for a good 15 minutes to get my car. at busy times, they will not accept car requests by phone. you have to literally spend 15 minutes standing in line.

the wifi is $13/day and is TERRIBLE. it is slow and spotty on your laptop, and doesn't work at all on an iphone or ipad.

the breakfast/brunch buffets are expensive, but tasty. however, they included an automatic 15% gratuity and ALSO printed at the bottom of the check "gratuity not included", along with suggested gratuity amounts. a blatant lie to try and trick people into tipping twice. when i mentioned this to staff, they had no response.

50% of the time you call the front desk or operator for help, the phone just rings and rings and no one picks up. if someone does pick up, they just try to transfer you elsewhere....usually to an extension that doesn't pick up.

everything about this hotel makes it feel like they want to charge you as much as they possibly can for everything, without offering any value or good experience in return. they charge 3 times what things are worth, and then deliver on about 25% of what they promise. the staff is "nice" but not helpful.

the lobby is a big, multilevel maze, which is difficult to navigate with luggage. the hotel is packed with convention-goers and people who are there for the nightlife (there are clubs & restaurants & parties in the hotel... meaning lots of loud drunk people in the lobby and elevator.)

this hotel is a 2-or-3-star product at 5-star prices. being big and expensive does not make you a 4-star hotel.

would not ever stay here again.

Room Tip: do not stay adjacent to the elevator. ask for a room that doesn't smell like sewer.

The hotel is in an excellent location for visitors relying on public transport as it is within easy walking distance from Union Station.

The room we occupied was of a good size but in need of renovation. More importantly, there was a lack of attention to cleanliness particularly relating to the bathroom facilities.

Room Tip: get a room away from the panoramic lifts they tend to be noisy.

This hotel was a on-the-spot decision as I had gotten into town without a reservation and it was one of a very few good hotels that had availability when I arrived. As a Starwood rewards member, I choose this location for the reviews and proximity to the highways. The hotel staff was very friendly, very accommodating to myself and to my dog, needless to say I was very grateful that they do accept pets.

Being that this is a long standing hotel I was pleasantly surprised to find the hotel is modernized and my room was updated with great amenities and a great view. Also being a very large and busy hotel, I was expecting major delays for the elevator which wasn't the case.

The hotel is in a great location in downtown LA, close to the convention center, businesses, entertainment venues, etc. I stayed for only two days but my brief experience was a very good and restful one. Though I had a as-good-of-a-rate-as I could get at the last minute, I would have stayed longer, but it was a bit costly, but being better prepared next time I will definitely be back. I recommend this location to anyone who wants to stay at great hotel with in LA and with a little movie history.

We stayed at this hotel around Labor Day, and this is a pretty well located hotel in downtown. The coolest feature certainly are the panoramic lifts, and the rotating restaurant at the top floor. The breakfast was decent, and the lobby has undergone a dramatic facelift. The location is a bit closer to the business areas and not quite the center of downtown nightlife, so a car is necessary, although the Metro Red Line is pretty close and a great option to Hollywood. Overall, a satisfying, reasonably affordable, and a decent choice. Given how exciting downtown is getting these days, with a plethora of new hotels, and nightlife closer to the Central Core or South Park, probably not my first choice, although my starwood status probably won out in the end.
