“Weekend Staycation.”
Reviewed 22 June 2014

the fist time I stayed in this hotel was back in 1983, it was as cool then as it is now, its a big hotel but its nicely maintained and our rooms were great with nice views of downtown. There's not much I can say about this hotel that hasn't been said already but it was nice to be back and I'm sure we will be back again. If you are visiting LA this is an Iconic landmark in the city.

Room Tip: get as high as you can.

Green Features: its a Starwood Property so it's doing the best it can.

Great location and area. The hotel is clean and has a large inside area. The lobby bar is neat and nice. If you have time head up to the top floor and go into the rotating bar and restaurant. Its neat and moves slow. Not a bad view in the entire place. Had a room was near the elevator shaft which was a bit noisy. The downfall is the price of the hotel is expensive but the surrounding areas in LA are not safe. So try to move away to the corner areas. Parking is underground and there are restaurants and a club inside the hotel.

Stayed there fir a week in May to volunteer my professional services at the International Science and Engineering Fair. The desk had me booked in two separate rooms and then charged me as a NO SHOW for one of the rooms. It cost me $403.33 for their blunder. They have been totally uncooperative in trying to resolve this. Last time I will stay in a Westin or related hotel chain!

This hotel reminds me of a subway. Parts of the hotel seem very dated. The lobby is different, cement and stone everywhere. The elevators are color coded, which is why it reminds me of a subway. Initially it is a bit confusing the hotel it is like a labyrinth. The rooms are all different sizes. Check out the revolving lounge on the 35th floor, lovely views of Los Angeles!

Room Tip: Stay away from the ice machines. The loudest I have ever heard.

The staff at the Bonaventure were all very friendly and helpful. Additionally, you have all the benefits/mainstays of being a Westin property, which is great. The heavenly bed, awesome shower, great workout facility, and more.

The location is also pretty good. The day of check-in was the LA Kings victory parade, and the route went right by the hotel.

So, let's talk about design. Unfortunately, there isn't really anything Westin can 'do' about this, but it is what is really holding this property back. First off, the lobby spans 5 (maybe six, not really sure), floors. Shops, lobby, entrance 1, entrance 2, valet, gym, and pool are all on different floors. Oh, did I mention that some floors L-6 are accessible by elevator, but others aren't? Because that makes sense. Also, as an Atlanta resident, I am aware that Westin loves their cylindrical hotels, but really....dumbest idea ever. There were four elevator shafts that are marked by both a shape and a color. But, all the towers are interconnected, so you can really go up any elevator bank and get to your room (not sure if this is a positive or negative, just a point). I will say, having multiple elevator banks made calling an elevator quick and painless, which can't be said at all hotels this size.

Okay, now the rooms. Again, the hotel is a cylinder, so, yeah. Rooms are like a slice of pizza. The bathroom does the job, but is horrendously small. I'm also not a fan of Westin toiletries. Our room had two beds, but because the walls are not square, the bed closest to the bathroom is almost impossible to access from the wall side. The room was also just beat up and out of shape. Some of the doors of our furniture were broken, our cordless phone didn't work, and our wired phone had sticky keys so dialing any number was almost impossible.

Some people say "well, if you don't let them know, they can't fix it". Wrong. A good hotel should be inspecting rooms top-to-bottom after every stay to ensure all parts of the room are working properly. Especially a Starwood property.

Another note: I booked this room on priceline, and ended up getting almost 60% off the rack rate. I would not have been a happy camper at this hotel had I paid the going rate during my stay.

It's by no means a bad hotel, and the shops and staff make it very convenient, but the rooms need a refresh, and quite honestly, a size upgrade.

Oh, one more gripe. The room features 'Daily USA Today Delivery', yet a paper was never delivered to my door. But almost every other door on my floor had papers every morning. You can get a paper from the lobby, but I would really like a response from the hotel as to why that happened....and if it was because I paid less via priceline, then you need to remove yourself from priceline because that is not okay (not saying that was the case, but I can't think of another plausible reason).

I often stay at the Westin while in LA for business. The beds are fabulous. Pillows are wonderful. Bathrooms are on the smaller size, but workable. Rooms are all different sizes but clean and comfortable.

The elevators are color coded by towers (4). It is a bit confusing, but after a couple nights you get the hang of it.

Nice stay. Good lobby bar. Nice staff.

A walkable location to downtown LA, the convention center, shopping and restaurants.

Location/Room/Comfort - wise, the hotel was awesome...
Rooms were clean, and kept. Bed is absolutely comfortable.. the complimentary water is also nice.

The areas are separated by colors.. Try to get a Yellow section, its closer to the pool, which oddly is outside, apart from the hotel. Its solely for guests, and there was something about being surrounded by the downtown buildings that made it a very unique experience.

I didn't have breakfast as it wasn't included. Parking is on the expensive side at $42 a night, but its valet and all I had to do was call from the room and it was waiting for me when I needed it, whatever the time was.

There is also a rotating bar at the top of the building. It is very subtle, but when you look outside. its a very relaxing, soothing atmosphere, especially at night. There is a club, which seemed to have a good crowd. Ill have to check it out next time.

Room Tip: Like I said rooms are separated by color.. Any room offers a great view...
