“Beware of all night long traffic noise!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 March 2012

Convenient to lax and car rental places. Horrible place to try to sleep. Room 115 felt like traffic was right outside our room which it was! Lousy breakfast & no sleep before our flight out of lax. Lesson learned.

This is such a "roller coaster" issue with guests -- area noise. The hotel is at the airport...it is one of the busiest in the world...in order to be close to the terminals there will be vehicles travelling in and out -- flights are leaving from early morning to late at night. The hotel is not situated in an isolated and walled compound. We have sound proofing -- thanks to the airport -- but does that eliminate all noise...never. Bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper...
Breakfast--lousy--I wish I could ask the person what were his expectations? A full hot breakfast? It is clearly advertised as a continental breakfast bar...breads, bagels, sour cream, toast, cereals, juice, fruit, coffee, tea, Danish, jellies...all included. We are the only property on Century Blvd, that provides a complimentary breakfast, free Wi-Fi, newspaper, and free parking -- all at a moderate rate. Manager

We have been coming here for years. For us it's a place to sleep and a place to kick back between adventure while visiting the LA area. We always book ahead and a few days before we call to confirm and ask for specific room usually the bottom along the pool with the gated parking lot behind the room. It's convenient, we always rent a car across the street and when it's time to go home, it's a quick and easy pack up drop the car and go. Probably the best breakfast at any of the travelodges we have stayed. Cold cereal, toast, bagels, English muffins, fruit, juice and all the condiments. It's a nice break from the big breakfasts at Denny's next door. It's about as central to everything as you could hope. Everyone we have dealt with there have been good to us, maybe a language barrier at times but nothing that would stop me from coming here again. The pool is always clean, there are people always sweeping the area or cleaning the rooms. As far as dampness that I have read in other reviews, you are by the ocean and in compound with a tropical forest in the center. I'm from Alberta so the humidity is welcome after a winter of dry cold air. I have heard it is louder in the back rooms but we didn't deal with anything we thought was room shaking or so loud we couldn't talk to each other. You won't find a better deal for what your getting anywhere in the area.

Room Tip: Call a couple days before coming and request a room on the north side bottom where the gated parking...

The best compliment all of us at Travelodge Hotel LAX could receive is a guest who returns year after year. We strive to provide quality rooms and service at a reasonable rate...having our efforts validated is very much appreciated.
In Los Angeles, the airport is like the hub of a wheel; whether you want to go to Santa Monica, Hollywood, Disneyland, Universal City, etc. each tourist location is from 20 to 30 minutes away. The beaches are within a few minutes. Of course, the dampness which guests have described is due to our location near the ocean plus our extensive landscaping.
Continental Breakfast--enjoy our new garden setting addition to the breakfast room.
The majority of car rental agencies are within a couple of blocks of the hotel -- Denny's is located on property but if your palate wants Chinese or Mexican our shuttle service will provide the transportation.

I stayed at this hotel back in June 2011 for 1 night as we thought it was value for the money and close to airport, whilst the rooms smelt old and musty and were in poor condition it was ok for a night, booked again to stay this month for 2 nights before flying back home to AUS and was told the price over the phone, once we got there they had put the price up due to being at full capacity?!! Who does that! Then when we said we we're flying home early so would just take the half day stay rate of $39.95 plus tax, we were told it be $93 because they were full so don't offer that price clearly advertised in front of the desk! It's service and quality is 1 star we certainly went down the road to A much nicer hotel for $10 more! I won't recommend this hotel to anyone.. Shame on you travelodge LAX

When as a staff, we fail to fulfill our goal of providing quality service and accommodations we have to take a deep breath and hone our skills. When a rate is quoted over the phone, it is the current rate. If the room is not booked and quanrateed with a credit card, then as the inventory of rooms decline the rate does increase. Obvioulsy, we were not clear when the rate was initially quoted that if not "reserved" at that time the rate would increase. The last few rooms will be priced in the ninety dollar range. Our regret... Manager

Built in the 1950's to entice movie stars traveling from LAX before it was LAX, this hotel has multiple bungalow type buildings with wandering paths and little courtyards filled with foliage and flowers between the buildings. You can easily imagine stars laughing among the towering palms, bougainvillea, azaleas, camellias and ferns. Gardeners and romantics will be delighted! The pool is large, hotel is well kept and paths are freshly swept. Breakfast is standard continental but the bagels were fresh and the juice full strength. Have their own shuttle buses which run 24 hours (unlike some which advertise, but quit running at 11 pm).

The review would have been 5 stars, but our room at the back of the property had quite a long wait for hot water in the 2 person tiled walk-in shower (probably the height of luxury in 1950).

Room Tip: Some rooms have balconies and little patios.

Thank you for embracing the wonderful character of the hotel--with vintage does come charm. Yes, the two person shower was a luxury in the fifties; however, the method of plumbing with water pipes on the roof does result in a longer wait for warm water on cold nights.
The continental breakfast breads and fruit supplies are delivered every other day. Jellies...sour cream is available with three juices and cereal...
Shuttle Service -- we have a 24 hour service that is operated solely by the hotel...we service only our own guests which means you go directly from the airport to the hotel and return the same way. Most other properties have shuttle service that include multiple hotels. Manager

Thank you for your review. We are pleased that when you needed a room we were able to accommodate your request. We sincerely believe we are the best value for individuals who need a hotel room for a night or two as they transition through LAX Airport. We currently are the only hotel that provides complimentary continental breakfast...our shuttle service to only for our property and does not service 3 or 4 other hotels. We are listed on the hotel/car rental information kiosk that is located in each terminal luggage claim area. Traveler's Note: There are no cars available at the airport. You have to be shuttled to the car agency's lot. Best option is to take the hotel shuttle; check-in; deposit your luggage in your room; and then let us take you to the car rental site. Manager

The redeeming features of this motel are if you have a hire car and you are heading to the airport the next day. There is a petrol station right next door, the car rental drop off locations are very close by, there is a post box at front desk and there is a Dennys next door.

However. Upon walking in I was greeted by a 'what do want' woman, how nice. I had prepaid, clearly an error at this point and I was stuck. She gave me my room number and told me I was in 'the other wing', which I politely asked where it was. She gave me some crappy gabbled directions and after the first turn at reception was thoroughly lost in a maze of halls, passage ways and stairs. Im glad I wasn't carrying a load of luggage as that would have really annoyed me. After 10 mins of sighing and muttering I somehow stumbled across 'the other wing'. I kinda wish I hadnt. When I entered the room it was like a scene from the Bates Motel, dark, dingy, creepy looking and the shower curtain was pulled. It had a damp and musty smell and was clearly in need of a serious refurb.
Only one light worked and the one in the bathroom flickered.
There was only one plug socket in the room and it held the badly tuned in tv. Charging the phone incase I needed to make an emergency call was clearly more important to me than an episode of Buffy.
The bedside light did not work and the aircon rattled like there were teeth stored in it. The noise from traffic was so loud that if you screamed no one would have heard you.
I think there was a pool I passed along one of the 74 passage ways.
I wish you good luck.

The hotel clearly did not achieve our goal of providing each guest with an enjoyable stay...an association with The Bates Motel at least provided the guest with a little of Hollywood nostalgia.

The staff is well trained to greet guests and to provide directions to guests rooms. The "maze" is actually landscaped grounds that are bedecked with flowers and tropical plantings. The 95 foot Junior Olympic pool is in the center of the property and surrounded by guest room patios.

Guest rooms are inspected by a housekeeping supervisor prior to being avaiiable for the front desk to assign to a guest. An on going renovation program involves the updating of guest rooms. We are proud of the hotel's 20 plus years of receiving "A" ratings for the cleanliness of our guest rooms. Maintenance items are reported to our 5 man team who immediately address an issue. A maintenance staff is on duty 20 hours a day to respond to a guest's requests. Remember...you just have to call the front desk if there is anything not to your liking. The "extended" wing is frequently selected by returning guests because they find it quiet and away from traffic.

Yes...we are close to car rental agencies (and are the only property on Century Blvd., that does not charge for parking). Complimentary transportation is provided to the car rental agencies and the airport.

I can understand the confusion between the definition of a hotel and motel. One does not tend to think of a two storey lodging facility as a hotel. The "hotel" classification comes from the amenities gift shop, restaurant/lounge adjoining...exercise room...room service..24 hour desk and shuttle service..
Dampness...perhaps the word Inn better describes the look of the property...the guest rooms are in garden settings with exterior entrances-- the ocean is just 2 miles away. Each room is individually air conditioned which can make a room smell damp. Sounding proofing is important. Inclement weather does magnify the issue of dampness.
Always pleased to receive positive comments regarding the service provided and the continental breakfast.
