The staff were so friendly in this hotel! Rooms were comfortable and clean, and there is a shuttle service to and from Universal Studios, which is only 10 minutes away. We were not very keen however on the Restaurant of the hotel, We had breakfast there one morning of our three day stay, and a meal one evening - we had pasta - and decided after experiences in other Italian Restaurants in LA, that the Americans in LA do not know how to cook it! lol!
Ice machines and soft drink dispensers on every floor. We did not think much of the concierge service either, a few things they told us was not quite as it was.

We stayed at this hotel as it's convenient to Universal Studios (they run a shuttle bus to and from the park) and it's also a pick up point for the Lux Bus to Las Vegas. Our room was nice, clean and had a good view of the pool (which we'd requested & paid extra for). The air conditioner was noisy so we couldn't leave it on overnight. The pool was lovely, as were the Pina Coladas & beers from the poolside bar! We ate at Tulas the first night. The food was nice, not wonderful. The bus to Universal Studios left on time, but we waited almost an hour to get a bus back to the hotel at the end of the day. Overall it was nice and convenient, but expensive for what you get.

From the moment we checked in the Service was amazing! When you turn on your TV you are welcomed with a beautiful message from the children of Beverley Garland which is very welcoming! You can catch their bus to Universal Studios which runs every hour or they are more then happy to drop you off at the train station! We walked which only took ten minutes! The boutique is gorgeous and they organised our Universal tickets and hop on hop off bus tickets and answered the many questions we had with a smile! Tula's the restaurant is AMAZING! Excellent food and Service! We were there for 3 nights and had dinner there all 3 nights! The pool is heated with a spa and there is a gym and sauna! There is also a laundry there for $3 per machine used which came in very handy for our 3 week US trip! When we were checking out the lady told us they are doing a refurbishment!
We would highly recommend this beautiful hotel! Thank you so much to The Beverely Garland for making our stay in LA an unforgettable one:) This hotel is a must if staying in LA!

I've stayed at a lot of Holiday Inn's and while the staff were lovely and the impression as you drive in is excellent, Beverly Garland is an old hotel abutting Highway 101 and the rooms are tired and not at all quiet.

Indeed, unless your trip is to visit Universal or conduct business in the immediate area, I'd not recommend that you stay here because there is very little around and so you'll either need a car (and incur a parking fee at the hotel) or catch the Metro Red Line from the Universal Studios stop and use LA's inadequate public transport system.

In terms of the rooms, they are about average size for LA, which means they'll easily soak up two queen beds and a lounge chair, but not much else. Each room seems to have a little balcony - which significantly contributes to you hearing both road noise and other guests as they wander about - but they are very narrow and few of them were in use that I saw.

Unlike many other Holiday Inn's, you don't get the soft and firm tags on pillows, it's a one type fits all approach, unfortunately. But our bed was firm and comfortable, and did not have that 'roll into the center' sag that older mattresses get.

The bathroom had a bath, with the shower over it, water pressure was good and the hot water was endless. I'd not call it spacious, but there was enough room for one...two was a squeeze. We also had a little sink and mirror outside the bathroom, which certainly helped during the morning rush.

The TV was a large flat screen with cable channels, there was an iron/ironing board but no safe. There was also no fridge or mini-bar. So if you're a family that likes to buy milk and cereal to save yourself money on breakfast, you can't do that here.

With regards breakfast, we were paying for our own and as with all hotels these days, it was easy to rack up forty dollars before the day had begun. The hotel restaurant, Tula's, does not set the world on fire in terms of culinary excellence, but it was OK. There is a buffet option or à la carte but watch out for the coffee conveniently brought to the table. It is not complimentary but that is not made obvious at the time. One advantage for younger diners is the 'Kids Eat Free' policy which I understand applies up to 12 years old.

While we sat by the pool, we did not swim, but any number of kids were and they were obviously enjoying themselves.

The WiFi was fast enough and coverage was good.

So this is a good hotel to consider if your primary aim is visiting Universal Studios, which is about five miles away. There is a free shuttle bus service running to set times, though it does get crowded in the morning. It also seems focused on families (and Australians...there were lots of Ozzies staying there on our trip) with the pool and a tennis court and little picnic area down the back.

Finally, the Holiday Inn website calls this hotel "Holiday Inn Universal Studios" which very much confused me when I arrived. Same address, same facilities...but a different name on the front door to the one on my booking. Gotta love a creative Marketing Department!

We stayed here for three nights at the beginning of our holiday. Easy to get to from L.A.X not about 30mins in taxi. Lovely staff greeted us at door was nice after day of travelling! Rooms nice & spacious, great shower! Perfect for universal studios as free shuttle brings you to & from hotel. Abit out of the way from walk of fame & hollywood. Would stay here again if ever back in L.A

Room Tip: rooms to the back of building are quieter as highway is north of hotel
