“Stay at the sheraton instead”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2014

Our stay started of with snobby receptionist who thought she was better than everyone else! Was told would need $250 deposit which I refused to pay never even got asked to leave that in vegas!
The room was tiny no fridge which I was told was $20 a day to hire! No in room safe, there was a gap under our door big enough to put my hands under!! The room balcany faced a noisy highway which even with the door closed you could still hear it!! High con really noisy!! The hotel is in a bag location where they charge $19 each for breakfast buffet plus tax so unless u are prepared to walk they kind of got u! It was nice breakfast thou although I find it rude that sum staff try to get you to hurry up and put the bill down when u are not finished even when empty! The hotel receptionist tryed to charge me $75 for one way transportation to hollywood which even shuttle driver though was expensive!! The poor reveiw does not imply to shuttle drivers and concierge staff they work hard and are always polite it was really for the receptionist who was more interested in the business customers than me and my husband who booked this year n half in advance and worked hard to go on this vacation! We stayed at sheraton park in Anaheim n got loads complimentary stuff ! And New York New York vegas as part of our trip n it was this hotel and atmosphere that let our holiday down! This hotel is not a typical holiday inn once you get passed reception and nice pool it's like a high grade motel 6

We stayed here for 4 nights in February 2014 before moving on to San Francisco, The Hotel was great for what we needed and a nice sized pool. It is in the perfect location with Universal Studios only about a 20 minute free bus ride! And Hollywood is quite close with a range of taxis at the hotel waiting to take you. Also there is a small retail park just a 10 minute walk down the road with lots of convenient food restaurants/stores if you don't fancy eating at the restaurant at the hotel. (I personally recommend Ralphs supermarket as they have a massive variety of products at amazing value!) The hotel itself has a very nice interior with a lovely seating area and small shop (for postcards, some food and souvenirs). The hotel room itself is very nice and always clean with free WIFI and a safe. The balcony overlooked the car park but the view beyond was still nice and we didn't hear any noise from the main roads so getting to sleep wasn't a problem. The restaurant has nice food although slightly on the expensive side with around $5 for a bowl of chips (however the exchange rate would mean its about £3 so its down to you if you think its expensive or not...) Overall we were very satisfied with our stay. :-)

We travelled to the USA for the first time with another couple in June 2014 and our first stop was 3 nights at the Beverly Garland hotel.

The hotel was great for what we needed and very clean. We had a room with a safe and a fridge that overlooked the pool. We didn't hear any noise from the main roads whilst in the room and the bed was huge and really comfy. We went up to Universal City Walk for dinner 2 nights out of the 3 we stayed and the free shuttle bus made this really easy and the drivers were friendly and helpful. We visited Hollywood and Santa Monica and although they aren't any where near the hotel they were easily accessed by a city sightseeing tour bus that had a pick up point at Universal City, you don't necessarily need your own car.

We only had 2 issues during our stay:
1: After the cleaners had been in our room they had left the room door open. Nothing had been taken from our room, however it could easily have been. I reported this to reception - not in a complaint way, I just thought it might be useful if they passed it on so the staff were aware to be more careful. It was however met with a bit of a blank look as to why i thought it was a problem, which was suprising as the staff had all been helpful throughout the rest of our stay.

2: One evening we went to Warren's Blackboard on site restuarant for a drink. Whilst we were sat a gentleman repeatedly phlegmed up and spat on the floor. We were only having a drink and found this revolting, let alone if we had been eating.

Overall it was a very pleasant stay

We stayed here for 3 nights. Rooms are comparable to a mid range hotel. Good access to Hollywood and Universal studios. Free shuttle bus to metro station and Universal Studios. We had some issues with rental cars and Angel at reception assisted us to resolve the problem as well as helping us to book accommodation in Anaheim. Very satisfied with the service provided by the staff.

The Beverly Garland is a beautiful hotel and ideally located for Universal Studios. We had 5 nights here with 2 adults and 2 kids in late May 2014, and despite the renovations currently being carried out, there was virtually no disruption to our stay. We loved the slightly retro feel of the place, and its history, and starting with a very good experience when I made the call to make a reservation, all the staff we dealt with were very helpful and efficient. The room was clean and comfortable, and the nightly rate was good value for money.

Despite being very close to the busy 101 freeway, the rooms have been sound-proofed and even though we had a room overlooking the car park, we could not hear a thing. The close proximity to the freeway made getting in and out of the area easy.

We particularly liked:
- the free shuttle bus to and from Universal Studios
- Warren's Blackboard restaurant - great food and good value
- the pool area
- the poolside movies on a big screen
- the location
- the close proximity to the Ralph's supermarket and other shops on Ventura Blvd

On the downside, and the reason for a 4 star rating instead of a 5, firstly, at nearly $20 per day, the parking is expensive for an open air car park with no valet. I don't mind paying to park a car, but $5 or thereabouts would be more reasonable for this level of parking.

Secondly, on Monday when we checked in, we learned about the poolside Mexican street fare on Friday nights, and as this was to be our last night, we decided to make this our Friday night dinner. We got to the pool at about 7.30pm or so (when it was still quite light) when the movie was about to start and we ordered a couple of starters. Our plan was to 'nibble' through the evening, watch the movie, have a swim, and enjoy our last night in the hotel. We were more than a little disappointed when the chef started packing up at 7.50pm. We didn't realise that service was only up until 8.00pm, but by the time we did, we placed an order at about 7.55pm but it was still too late. At about 8.15pm, we decided to simply go with something off the poolside menu, only to be told by the bar staff that it was closed too. We were not dressed appropriately for Warren's so we had to go to our room and we settled on a bag of potato chips. Longer serving times, and more warning of imminent closure are required.

Overall though, 5 nights at the Beverly Garland was a great experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the poolside. Rooms of the size we needed were being renovated in late May 2014, b...

I have to say that I was made to feel like a second class citizen here.
Bear in mind that the original booking had been made in November last year, and a request was made for a quiet room.
In fairness it was the Memorial weekend and they did have a private party happening when we checked in.(But the Kardashians were elsewhere!) However we were told that they did not have a room ready for us at the time. At that point the other receptionist pointed at something on the monitor, and they sought the assistance of another colleague who found that they did have a room ready.
Said room had neither safe nor fridge, I got a safe deposit box at reception for our valuables, but the bell hop seemed a bit surprised that we did not have a fridge. Its a bit odd in such warm conditions is it not?
To the room. One wall was painted unplastered stone. The ceiling was bumpy rather basic looking plasterwork. A bit like soft pebbledash. Nice quality proper wood furniture, a little tired, but otherwise a bit like an upmarket Premier Inn (But see other facilities below) Very clean, nice vanity unit in bathroom, great shower.
Balcony, Facing the freeway, so extremely noisy.
The air conditioning was equally noisy, so at night we had the choice of no sleep because of heat plus freeway noise, or no sleep because of the noise form the air con. On the second day I asked for an engineer to look at the air con motor outside, as there was a pool of water on the balcony.
I was told that this was normal moisture from general running. By the time we left, said pool had grown and was dripping on to balconies below.
We did have the benefit of an ice machine on our floor. They are apparently on alternate floors.
At this point I have to say that our room was in a building that was a wee bit dark. Straight corridors, made it lack much ambience.
There was a pleasant patio area in front of the lobby area, with tables with umbrellas and chairs.
I didn't see it but there is apparently a full size tennis court. The swimming pool looked nice, and there is a fitness room just off it. A nice touch for people like us touring, is a coin operated laundry.
There is a little shop by reception run by the concierge, where you can buy basics and sweets and book tours etc. At reception there is iced water on tap.
The courtesy shuttle to the Universal studios site runs hourly and is excellent. Universal has loads of shops and restaurants and you can pay to go through to the tour and partake of some scary looking rides. There is also a separate shuttle from there to the bus tours of the LA area
I have to say that the shuttle drivers and the bell hops at the hotel were nice friendly and courteous at all times
There is a little shopping complex about 10 mins walk away, where you an buy food wines and beer, and an excellent card & gift shop

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the freeway!

Nice enough hotel close to universal studios or city walk with a free shuttle bus that can drop at the metro station.

If you wish to go anywhere else it's best to rent a car. Public transport would take hours also taxis in LA cost a lot. For some reason the hotel want to charge you $19 a night to park there when you can park on the street for free which we did.

The rooms have no safe which is a pain, have to use a safety deposit box at reception also no fridge so you be trekking everyday for ice. The room is nice enough but you get view of a car park if your on the wrong side.

The staff are nice and helpful but if you unlucky enough to get one woman very strong accent can't remember her name sorry. I could not understand what she said.

Pool is nice but a little small, hot tub next to pool, you do get free towels.

The hotel restaurant is excellent in terms of good food and service but very pricey for a restaurant attached to a three star hotel.

Overall I would give it 3/5
