Last weekend we stayed at the holiday Inn Beverly Garland universal studios in LA and were highly disappointed with the room!

We were in room 119 and the noise from the bathroom in the room above was terrible, we could hear the toilet seat being dropped, the toilet being used and then when the bathtub was being used the water sounded like a waterfall, that was just the first night! After this I requested some ear plugs from reception and was told that I could go get them from the gift shop!

We hoped it was a one off and the room may be empty on the second night, no such luck again early in the morning the noise woke us up, when you are on vacation you don’t need to be disturbed like this!

The third morning was the worst, around 0700hrs the noise started, but around 0730hrs when the shower was in use there was a noise that sounded like a drill being used, we put it down to the massage on the shower being used, I rang reception to ask if they could stop it but never heard back from them! This early awakening really did ruin our day!

When we discussed this with the reception desk they weren’t aware of the call we had made earlier that morning, when we explained the noises we heard they said that engineering had been to unblock a drain at 0730hrs on a Sunday morning, surely it could have waited!

We moved to another room for the final night, it was okay.

Stayed in May 2010 for a vacation. Enjoyed the friendly service and location. Tula's Cafe was an excellent option for breakfast and supper. (didn't do lunch there). No noise issues for us. Tennis courts were a bonus at this price level. Lots of room on site. Next trip to California will involve this hotel. Thanks!

When we arrive at almost 5pm, check-in was 3pm, they told us they were not sure if the room was ready yet. The staff were not that friendly except for the men/porters that drive the shuttles to Universal Studios and they were after a tip all the time. They also try to sell you LA tours every time they see you coming. We ended up going down to Hollywood Boulevard and a company offered us pretty much the same tour for about 1 third of the price so don't waste your money booking through the hotel. You can also get around using the Metro system as well, the bus stops outside the hotel and the train is a short walk from the hotel. It is a great location for Universal Studios and there is a free shuttle from the hotel to there. We had a kids suite, the room had been renovated which was nice but it had an adjoining door to another room which was made out of paper almost as we could hear everything the family in the next room was saying and their TV which was annoying. Also, the kids suite is right next to the freeway which is very noisy. That was also annoying as the kids suite costs quite a bit more than the standard room and it is in the noisiest part of the hotel. The kids suite really just has a little wall around bunk beds, my son liked it though, he thought it was fun. It costs you however to use the games in the room. Also, there is an extra TV in the kids area but it is about 3 metres from the main TV so very hard to have on at the same time! The main bed was only comfortable with 1 person in it otherwise you felt like you were rolling down a hill all night. We had dinner at Tula's cafe a couple of nights and it was very nice and the prices reasonable, the staff were friendly there. I would recommend it if you are going to Universal Studios.

If you like runny eggs and soggy potatoes for breakfast, and you end up sending it back to be cooked, go to the Beverly Garland. Wait staff will not acknowledge new arrivals as in, "I'll be right with you." (Only one time did they have a host/hostess to seat guests on duty when I ate there which was 3 times). Same lack of acknowledgment in outdoor part of lounge. Only one other table was seated so they were not that busy. Lack of smiles and friendliness at front desk. Several lights did not work in my room. Coffee maker went on the fritz the 3rd morning. Banging and knocking of workers in empty room next door.

Ok let me first start by saying i did not pick this hotel a travel agent did, however on a good note before i write my complants it was pretty clean, besides the blood stains or maybe choclate on our sheets the first night ,,,,,,it was myself and 2 other girls the room had 2 beds a desk and 2 sinks so it worked out well, the pool area is very nice fire place and couches around the area also a hot tub so no compents there, however we had a rental car that we paid for through our travel agent and the hotel charges 15.00 a day t0 park your car there WHY??? i am staying in your hotel, so 50.00 in fees for a spot at the hotel we were staying in was ridiculous , secondly the location sucked everything was freeway driving 45mins, to an hour to get to sunset blvd, venice beach, or to any bar which again sucked,,,,mapquest tells you 20mins untill u sit in crazy traffic for 45mins and we had no choice this location was not in walking distance to anywhere oh dont let me forget my favorite you are no allowed to ciggarettes on and outside balcony ,but you are allowed to smoke "pot" in your room that we had to smell everyday,,,,please explain this to me i cant seem to understand that one, also the housekeepers were the ones who felt the need to inform the hotel managemment we smoked on a balcony "outside" yet not one day did they knock on our door to clean or give towels we had to ask them to do it wtf is that lol ridiculous ,,,, and one more thing the management couldnt be ruder the old man who works the front desk with the gray hair is the most misrable man i have ever met no smile no hello and when you needed something from the front desk like a peice of scotch tape he made you feel like you were a bother to him,,,,,with all this being said i personally will never stay at beverly garlnads hotel LA however i will visit just would stay somewhere else ,,,,,,,

We stayed here for 3 nights and loved it. The staff were very friendly and knowledgable, the fitness center was well stocked and the pool was great, even when the air was cold the water was well heated and the fireplace was nice to sit next to to dry off. We used the free shuttle service to Universal and then used our rental car to get around, maps and directions provided by the front desk! We ate breakfast in the hotel every morning had dinner one night, the food was plentiful, good value for money and tasty and the waiting staff very attentive. Overall i would highly recommend this hotel

Hotel was in a great spot for all the sites and room was very clean and comfortable if a little on the small side. Were expecting a fridge in the room but when we got there we found that it would cost $10 per day to hire one! Would have also welcomed an in-room safe. Had a lovely balcony with a table and 2 chairs, but the noise from the freeway was too loud to enjoy it. Wasn’t too bad when the patio doors were closed and curtains drawn and we didn’t find it a problem sleeping, but the balcony was unusable which was a shame.

The hotel had a very nice pool area with a jacuzzi and an outdoor fireplace – handy as the pool area was open until 10pm each evening. It was just a shame that we didn’t get time to utilise it.

The $14 per day parking fee was hard to swallow, especially as on one of the days we visited the Six Flags park and had to pay another $15 to park our car there as well! Shuttle bus was handy, but only ran at certain times and the last one back from the City Walk to the hotel was at 9pm so it would mean a taxi ride home if you wanted to stay out later (or a 25 min walk).

Didn’t eat in the hotel, but did eat at the nearby City Wok (turn left out of hotel and walk for about 10 mins to Ventura boulevard), which was fantastic. Cheap, but excellent food and large portions (and we only had the half portions!) and clearly popular with locals. Just pay $1 more and ask for white meat if you prefer chicken breast in your dish.
