“No mini fridge”
Reviewed 2 September 2010

There is no mini fridge in the room which we missed. Not for the overpriced food and drink that hotels usually put in them but for when we brought small qualities of our own stuff. For example you couldn't even have milk on hand for breakfast cereal or your own orange juice or store stuff left over in a take home pack from dinner. The rest was ok but because of this lack of mini fridge I wouldn't stay there again.

Thank you for choosing The Beverly Garland while visiting Los Angeles. We are sorry to hear of your disappointment about not having a mini fridge in your guest room. However, we do have some room types that do come with a mini fridge. Should your travels bring you back to LA, please ask the reservationists as they would be happy to help you with your needs. We look forward to seeing you on your next visit to LA.

This hotel is ok, but our stay there was spoilt by 2 petty things.
It is close to Universal studios and the hotel provides a free shuttle bus there via the local metro station which is good. The pool is a reasonable size and the pool area is nice with a bar that is open in the evenings.
Our room was ok.
There is a car parking charge - about $14 a day I think from memory.
The hotel is right next to freeway 101 which makes access really easy, but does mean there is constant traffic noise 24x7. Although our room double glazing was good and kept most of the noise out, it does mean you can’t really sit on the room balcony as it is too noisy
The petty things that really spoilt our stay here are:-
1) There is no fridge in the room. You can hire one on a first come first served basis for $10 a day. This seems really petty. I think every other hotel room I have stayed in in the US has had a fridge and many of those hotels were of a lesser category (and cost) than this one.
2) We booked our room for 4 people through hotels.com. The booking said "Full breakfast". But the hotel would not honour this booking condition and would only give complimentary breakfast to 2 people in each room which I thought was quite extraordinary. I have never stayed anywhere that offered free breakfast to only half of a room's occupants. We questioned this with the management but they wouldn’t alter that position. So be warned, if you are booking this hotel to have more than 2 people in a room you will not all get a breakfast unless you pay extra for it whether you think you booked it or not..

A family of 4 total. I would feel very uncomfortable leaving my family alone here. Dirty. Poor service; I swear the guy who checked us in was half asleep. No personality at all. We unloaded the car and walked all around the place. It is so obvious that they threw in some things to make this place lookg ood. Sort of like putting a bandaide on a really bad cut. I took a shower and noticed that the shower was very dirty. My wife and I agreed to get the heck ouf of that place eps since this was our big vacation! So we drove around and found the Andaz Hotel. We didn't even spend a night at the Garland.

Stayed here for 4 nights in July. Didn't have a car but hotel 15mins walk from subway which didn't bother me but might not suit some. No matter where you stay in LA, you'll be far away from some tourist attraction. It doesn't have a courtesy bus from airport so it means taking the skyride (30mins) and another 30 min subway ride. Only one subway stop from Walk of Fame and its right beside universal studios. Like the hotel, friendly staff, room was lovely and supermarket nearby. Have no complaints.

Stayed here for two nights to take in Universal Studios. Great hotel for our girls (12 and 10). Had a family room with a screened bunk bed area which they (and we) loved. Room was good size and very comfortable. We were on the highway side and therefore the balcony was no use, the traffic noise is overwhelming BUT that did not bother us as once the windows were shut we were not disturbed. The pool area was the highlight for the girls and very secure. This meant we could sit in the patio area and relax in the evening. The restaurant food was good and we really enjoyed eating outside. The inside area is unremarkable with too efficient air conditioning. The shuttle to Universal is great but you need to get a ticket from the driver (no one explained this and we missed the first bus as a result). Took a bus to Hollywood Boulevard (horrible place) and a taxi to Rodeo Drive (worth a look). Universal was wonderful.

I just finished a 2 night stay here with the family. The hotel is a 10 min drive to Universal Studio's and 20 minutes to Hollywood, so the location is great. The room was nice and clean but we did find somebodies else's old sock behind the dresser when we were settling in, aside from that the room was very clean. There's a nice pool and tennis courts. Parking was $14, but the front desk offered to register me in their points club for free which knocked down the price to $11/night. Wifi was free and worked pretty well. Our major issue with the hotel was the AC unit. We had a two bed room and they place the AC unit literally 16 inches away from one of the beds with the cold air blowing right into your face. For that reason we couldn't turn on the AC at night, but if we left it off we were able to hear the TV in other rooms. We managed to use the AC in "fan" mode, so the white noise killed the sound from the other rooms but the temperature was too warm for comfort.

Its a decent hotel and the one bed rooms are probably better, but for a 2 bed room I'd choose a different hotel if I had to return to that area, just because of the AC unit.

Thank you for your comments. After reading your review, we have studied the air flow in our guest rooms and have begun to install deflectors onto the room AC's to avoid the air from blowing directly onto guest while in bed. We appreciate your assistance.

An easy to find hotel within easy reach of hollywood boulevard and universal studios. Great pool and excellent restaurant, with very well priced and presented food. The only negatives are traffic noise- but rooms well insulated. Great shuttle bus service to nearest tube and Universal Studios. Just watch out for queues at Breakfast time if you are in a hurry.
