Took ages to check in due to slow reception staff. She barely looked me in the eyes.
Bed sheets where dirty (make up stains). Aircon was so noisy that we had to turn it off during night time. Next morning I was covered with bed bug bites, even in my face.

Stayed here in for a week in June 2010,the location was great even though it is situated by a busy highway not once did we have any problems with noise.Check in was very quick with friendly staff,Parking was a bit expensive but at the end of our stay got offered to join the Holiday Inn club free of charge which included discount parking. The hotel room itself had everything we needed and was very comfortable, the balcony is small but not a problem,The pool area was really nice and has an outdoor fire place. There was a restaurant and it was named after Beverly Garland's grandaughter but we never used it in this trip.Overall we found the hotel to be really relaxing and modern and will be returning in 2011.

Stayed here with my partner for 4 nights last year during a 3 week trip to California. Great hotel in such a convenient location to all of LAs tourist attractions. we hired a car at LAX then drove (with the help of sat nav of course - a must have!) There are lots of tours you can do from the hotel, we got tickets at the hotel for Universal Studios and jumped on the free bus up there. Rather than spend the money on other tours, we followed the tour guide map which took in Holywood Bowl and brought us down town etc. Much cheaper way of doing the whole place in a short space of time. One tihng that's must at this hotel is an early morning jacuzzi by the pool - quiet and relaxing before a day of sight seeing. Hotel itself is clean, comfi beds and all staf friendly enough. Would definately recommend to anyone either as family with kids or travelling solo.

We stayed here for before returning to the UK. it was excellent. staff were great restaurant was fantastic. every thing else was top notch. Shop was reasonable. Pool and gym were both great. We got our passed for universal through the hotel and they also throw in a shuttle bus to the park for nowt. The hotel also arranged Hollywood tours and this was included in the price. Hotel was also cheapest in the area for similar level of service. Breakfast was also included which was good if a little basic. We did however have to pay to park this was annoying but due to the closeness of universal I can see why. All in all probably the best hotel we stayed in on our trip

Our family of four - including twin nine-year-olds - stayed in one of the Kid Suites at the end of August. The hotel is very close to Universal and, since it's literally right off the freeway, is convenient to almost everything. The room met our needs. It is a converted double room, with a "fort" in place of one of the queen beds. The kids thought that having their own little "room" was cool. In it were bunk beds, a TV, and a bookcase containing a video game system and some shelves with baskets for clothing. Parents, keep in mind that what I've been calling a fort does not have its own door, and the kid on the top bunk can actually look over the top of the fort (if they try) to see your bed, but it did provide a nice divider between the kids and the queen bed. The Kid Suite does come with a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. We found the room clean enough. What we liked about the hotel beside the Kid Suite were the free shuttle to Universal Studios, the pool (particularly the "Dive In" movies shown poolside Thurs-Sat nights), and the restaurant (free meals for kids). The hotel has a fitness center but no spa; however you can arrange to have an in-room massage by Tamera. A few things mentioned in previous reviews were true: the sleeper closest to the AC will be freezing, there was no fan in the bathroom, and you really can't go out on the terrace without hearing the freeway, but these issues were manageable. If you kept the terrace door closed you really couldn't hear the noise. My only other comment was that there were not enough shuttles coming back from Universal in the evening. The 8:15 PM shuttle filled up and the driver had to make TWO more trips to pick everyone up. I would recommend either a bigger shuttle or additional evening pickups. Other than that, we found the Beverly Garland a good place for families to stay while in North Hollywood.

Thank you for choosing The Beverly Garland while visiting Los Angeles. The goal of the Kids Suite was to provide children with their own space to create an experience for them far different from a typical two bedded hotel room while at the same time allowing parents comfort that they can keep an eye on the kids at all times. We are happy to hear you enjoyed the Kids Suite and our new Dive-In movie program at our pool. We are also happy to let you know that we are installing deflectors at the AC to provide greater comfort for someone sleeping closest to the AC. We are also looking into our shuttle schedule to see how we can provide a greater service experience. Appreciate your comments.

There is no mini fridge in the room which we missed. Not for the overpriced food and drink that hotels usually put in them but for when we brought small qualities of our own stuff. For example you couldn't even have milk on hand for breakfast cereal or your own orange juice or store stuff left over in a take home pack from dinner. The rest was ok but because of this lack of mini fridge I wouldn't stay there again.

This hotel is ok, but our stay there was spoilt by 2 petty things.
It is close to Universal studios and the hotel provides a free shuttle bus there via the local metro station which is good. The pool is a reasonable size and the pool area is nice with a bar that is open in the evenings.
Our room was ok.
There is a car parking charge - about $14 a day I think from memory.
The hotel is right next to freeway 101 which makes access really easy, but does mean there is constant traffic noise 24x7. Although our room double glazing was good and kept most of the noise out, it does mean you can’t really sit on the room balcony as it is too noisy
The petty things that really spoilt our stay here are:-
1) There is no fridge in the room. You can hire one on a first come first served basis for $10 a day. This seems really petty. I think every other hotel room I have stayed in in the US has had a fridge and many of those hotels were of a lesser category (and cost) than this one.
2) We booked our room for 4 people through hotels.com. The booking said "Full breakfast". But the hotel would not honour this booking condition and would only give complimentary breakfast to 2 people in each room which I thought was quite extraordinary. I have never stayed anywhere that offered free breakfast to only half of a room's occupants. We questioned this with the management but they wouldn’t alter that position. So be warned, if you are booking this hotel to have more than 2 people in a room you will not all get a breakfast unless you pay extra for it whether you think you booked it or not..
