Came here for a wedding party. The property is undergoing a remodel. The ground floor hallway and elevator of our building was dated and worn. We had newly remodeled rooms - in garish style from the 1950s. We were awoken the first night with loud sounds coming from the ac/heating unit (which was off). My wife thought there was an animal. It sounded like pop corn in a microwave to me. The next day the hotel front desk informed me that there was a known issue of sounds coming from the ac/heating units. They did graciously provided us with another room. That night at 10 o'clock we discovered that we could hear the TV from the adjacent room almost as if it was on in our room. The TV next door was not loud, the walls are just terribly thin. The manager came up and asked them too turn off their TV which they did.

On the plus side:
-Friendly, helpful staff.
-Comfortable three star bed.
-Very clean room.
-Nice pool.

On the down side:
-Paper thin walls
-Noisy ac/heating units that keep us up at night even when off - already known by staff.
-Small bathroom
-Parking is $14 a night.

Thank you for staying with us and taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent visit to the Sportsmen's Lodge. I want to apologize for the noise you experienced during your stay. I have asked our maintenance department to look into the A/C unit to see what is causing the noise. I hope to have this resolved soon. We hope to see you again.

Good front of house/reception area and pool, but room shabby and small bathroom. Breakfast facilities within hotel are ok and reasonably priced. Adequate parking available for extra cost. Air conditioning in too not too noisy.

Room Tip: Rooms on the outside of the hotel are quieter as not over looking disco pool area.

The hotel has been renovated since my last stay four years ago. The pool is very good. The rooms are clean and in good order. The hotel provides breakfast at a very good price. There are a useful supermarket and Starbucks across the road.
The hotel is convenient to Universal Studios.
A very good mid-priced option.

Spent three nights at the Sportsman Lodge. The place is under construction and the smell of paint was evident throughout the building. The room we were in was remodeled, but I noticed there is not much space for clothing or hanging towels etc...The pool was nice as we hung out there a few times. The Patio Grill was a decent spot for food and not too expensive. The wedding we attended was terrific with great food and great atmosphere. The staff throughout our stay was very nice. If the place was not under construction the rating would be higher.

Room Tip: Ask for a remodeled room....there are still older rooms available.

Thank you for your review. The renovation at the hotel is almost complete and we are addressing some of the items you mentioned. We are looking into a bathroom towel hook. The closets will remain the same. We hope you will return and visit us again.
Thank you.

This used to be a wonderful place to stay. Now between the construction going on 8-8, 24/7, and the paper thin walls, you won't get much sleep. Even the hotel engineer couldn't get the new radios to work. Go to one of the motels on Ventura Blvd. I don't know if they'd be any better, but they couldn't be much worse.

Room Tip: Stay away from the pool area and the very loud piped in music.

Was looking forward to staying overnight for our 50th Hollywood High reunion, but was disappointed as soon as we checked in with a $14 parking fee, which was supposed to be $5 negotiated by the reunion committee. Why wasn't it in their computers? We were assigned a newly refurbished room which looked nice (retro colors) but, they are under construction which is fair, but Saturdays and Sundays? The construction noise from inside the room, plus the drippy shower faucet, the sound of slamming room doors closing, and how well we could hear the conversations of the people in the hallways were all a big disappointment for this icon of a hotel. When checking out, they did waive the parking fee when I complained. Oh, and no glasses in the rooms for a drink or rinsing after a toothbrushing or enough toiletries for 2 people. Another thing, there's no blanket, only a heavy duvet and a sheet. Got very hot, but nothing for a happy medium, like a light blanket? Plus the air conditioning hit right on the beds. Sorry, but stay away from this place if you need a good night's sleep.

Room Tip: If you're into swimming and partying around a pool, this looks promising for you.

We arrived here on Saturday, this being our 4th stop on our honeymoon road trip. Hotel lobby looked very swanky, we were directed to our room on the second floor. It was a room that had yet to be updated so was quite dated and tired but when we asked Manny at the front desk if we could be moved he said we'd be able to on the Sunday when there were rooms free. This made our day. The refurbished rooms are great, good size TV and all the mod cons. Once this hotel has been fully updated it will be a great place. The old style rooms although not as swish are still comfortable and clean. It was the staff that really made it for us, everyone friendly and helpful. Great location for anyone going to universal, the free shuttle is reliable and hassle-free.
