“Big, Institutional, and Needs Some Freshening Up”
Reviewed 1 May 2013

How big is this Hilton? There are some 500 to 600 employees. It takes 10 minutes from the time you take TWO elevators from your room to your car in the bottom of the basement. It takes another 5 minutes to drive your back to street level. And the elevators a slow and could use a freshening up. Service is friendly, but not personal. If you want a quiet room, ask for one. Otherwise you may have an airport view and airport noise. As this close to LAX, guests are from everywhere, but Los Angeles. Don't expect to find any Hollywood celebrities lounging here. If need a room for a night by LAX, it will do just fine. If you are an extended vacation or business trip, it may be too large and impersonal . . . .

Room Tip: Be clear when you check in - do you want to see and hear the airport, or not.

Hi penpalpenpal,

Thanks so much for the nice review! Requesting a quiet room is a great tip for future guests who might be light sleepers. Others might enjoy the views and not be bothered by the noise, but if there's a preference, please let us know at check-in.

Had it not been for a blind Hotwire booking for a 4 star hotel in close proximity to LAX, I probably would not have stayed here. The entire place is beginning to show its age and less than thorough maintenance. Had to get out and walk around and honestly felt the area to be a bit sketchy. Many vagrants and general misfits walking around made getting out uncomfortable. As far as the room went, we were positioned in an odd corner where the windows look directly into another room. This made for a fishbowl feel and required we close the drapes which made it feel like a cave. All in all, the service was adequate and what little food we ate was ok. One thing that put me off a bit were the signs stating "No outside food allowed in the hotel" as if the Hilton feels your a captive when staying with them. This is one of the reasons I purposely ate out. Oh, and if you're arriving with a rental car, keep in mind it's nearly $30 /nite to self park 6 floors below the hotel.

Quite a few problems with this stay. Toilet did not flush. Not 1 mile from pier as stated on web site. BAD service at restaurant service and no compinsation. Room service woke us up knocking on the wrong door. Love Hilton just not this one.

Bathroom cleaning had been rushed from previous tenant.
No double glazing, so alot of airport noise and creaking from building contracting from temp changes.
Bathroom products nice.
No fridge.
5am automated wake-up woke us which we hadnt organised.
Spacious room.
Was able to buy a late check-out till 6pm for $50 which was great.
Inter-connecting door transferred noise from neighbour.
Walking distance to Dennys & Carls Je for takeaways.
Best shower in our travels so far

The Hilton must have been designed in the 50s and failed to keep place. The facility is showing its age for sure. Everything seems outdated or just old. The noise from the aircraft was quite load. The staff was pleasant enough, but there are better hotels for similar prices in the area

This is a pretty nice hotel in a good location near LAX. The lobby is modern and sophisticated and the rooms are clean and spacious. It has everything a hotel near the airport needs, a shop, restaurants, an ATM, and a shuttle to LAX.

The room service is extremely expensive, the most expensive we found at any of the hotels we stayed at in our 5 week trip of the USA (E.g. $5.00 for a can of coke). There is also no mini bar in the rooms which is a bit annoying when the vending machines are not working and the shop in the lobby only sells water.

Stayed at the Hilton LAX this past weekend. It's a very nice hotel, large, spacious, ourdoor pool & spa. It's clean which is very important to me. However, it's a hotel in major disarray. My safe didn't work ... my TV shut off every 15 minutes ... the restaurants serve inedible food and are VERY expensive, even for LA LA land.

There are nicer properties next door: Marriott, Westin, etc., so do your homework in picking a hotel near LAX.

I did love the Lavazza coffee in the room ... far better than the $6 per cup Starbucks in the lobby!

BTW, until about 12:30 AM flights were still taking off. Very pretty to watch, but not if you'd like to sleep. Staff is basically ... "who gives a flip" attitude about everything.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the runway. The 3rd floor rooms by the pool looked very nice!
