“Great hotel - lousy shuttle”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

Stayed here with the family on a day rate basis of only $89 while we had a 12 hour layover prior to a Transpac flight to Australia. We shopped around a lot of hotels for day use rates and while several offered them, the Hilton combined a good overall rate with HHonors points and a free shuttle. In fact, the rate quoted via hilton.com was lower than the rate quoted over the phone!

The hotel itself was excellent. Very nicely appointed rooms. Very good room amenities with lots of extra towels, toiletries, and very comfortable beds. The two boys loved the fact that the front desk staff granted their request to have a room that faced south runway complex at LAX so that they could watch the arrivals and departures (they should have been sleeping, but thats another story).

We used the pool which was refreshing and there were plenty of towels and niceties there waiting for us.

The restaurant prices are quite high (what you would expect from an airport hotel), so we were crazy and went over to the In-n-Out to watch the arrivals on the north complex and get some of Socal's best burgers.

That was all great. What -sucked- was the shuttle service. While it was free it took forever to get to us. Close to 40 minutes waiting at the arrivals level at T-4. I saw the Westin shuttle at least twice, the econolodge perhaps three times, as well as other shuttles. That really put a damper on our experience and felt that we should not have had to wait nearly so long for the shuttle service. To boot, when it did come, it was packed and we were doubling up on bodies. To the hotel's credit, the front manager did agree to extend our day use stay from the normal kickout time of 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Much appreciated on that point.

For future day use stays (or even night stays), I'd definitely stay here again provided they get the shuttle issue rectified!

Not a good experience for me last night. Though the staff were friendly and the lobby area was beautiful, all of that paled during the night against the some loud noise coming from one of the elevator shafts. The room I was given (room 4060) is apparently next to the NOISY elevator shaft. Every time the elevator moved (and it moved ALL NIGHT LONG, since LAX never sleeps) a loud banging/clanking noise would resonate through the wall. I heard others talking about the noise elevator, also. Anyway, needless to say, I didn't sleep very much before I had to catch a flight in the morning. Another room away from the elevator would probably have been fine and made for a nice overall experience. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. I made recommendation to the front desk clerk to report it to the management. I also recommended that the manager try to sleep in the room for a night to get a good idea of what the guests are having to put up with. If you are thinking about a stay at this hotel, I would stay away from any room that ends with the number 60 or 61, e.g., 4060, 4061, 5060, 6060, etc., unless you are a very heavy sleeper.

Beware!

I really like this Hilton, very nice lobby, rooms have always been quite even thou it's located at the airport. I love the lounge for hhonors members. I enjoy staying here when I'm in LAX. As far as food within walking distance there are a few places but I've never been.

I booked this hotel through Priceline so I got a good deal. It was okay, not very clean. The room was dusty and they charge for wireless Internet in the room. It's ok for a quick airport hotel. Nothing special.

Most hotels near airports that I've stayed at are just your run-of-the-average type, nothing special. This hotel is not only convenient, but it places a special emphasis on service. Granted I was only there overnight, the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. Really made for a good rest after a busy day.

Front Office staff really go out of their way to help. Will definitely come back on my next visit.

Having read a review here where the person paid $300 for a King room, I was happy to have one for $115 this weekend. It was small, as was the bathroom , which actually was tiny. It was noisy- must be those airplanes. Some of the other LAX hotels seem to have solved that problem with better windows. Check-in was quick and friendly.
My complaint really is with the parking fee. At $29 a night, it's pretty high. Even the Hilton must think so, as they offer airport parking at $13.95 a night in the same lot, but there is a two night minimum. I stayed at the old Radisson LAX recently, where parking was $13.50 a night. So, I didn't park at the Hilton. Next door is The Parking Spot, where, if you park on the roof, you pay $16.95. With tax that was about $19. So I saved $10 over the Hilton, and the lot is not nearly as tight a space as is the Hilton's. (Yes, I have parked there before.) But, even the Parking Spot goes up to $20.95 a night plus tax if you don't want to park on the roof. Hopefully the Hilton will see that their guests deserve the low rate provided to airport parkers.

Happy Greetings Guyinca,

Thank you for the favor you've done for us of writing a review about your recent experience. All very good points you've taken the time to communicate. Additionally, great to see you received a competitive price for the room you wanted and many compliments for this. Regarding the parking, thank you for expressing this to us as it is truly nice of you. With always looking for areas to improve, your words are truly motivitating and again thank you for this. To kindly add about parking, keep in mind that neighboring parking facilities will charge every single time you go out of the facility. If looking for convenience of going in and out of a parking facility, the best option would be the Hotel's facility as a pass is given to you so you can go in and out. Just a friendly note to ponder about in case of any future visits. Once more, thank you for the nice thoughts you've taken the time to express and hope you are having a nice day!
