Magic Castle Hotel
Ranked #2 of 355 Hotels in Los Angeles
Certificate of Excellence

It is a bit of a shock to see that this hotel is ranked #1 in LA. It is, after all, a small, somewhat dated hotel with few of the services found at larger places (no restaurant, no room service, no gym). But yes, as everyone says, the small staff sets this place apart. Where else do you see, for example, the Assistant Manager (Gretchen) walking from table to table during the (free) pools-side breakfast, checking that all are having a good time. She was wonderful ... and so were the others.

The manager of every hotel in America should be legally required to attend a Customer Care course run by the manager of the Magic Castle. From the moment you first enter, you are made to feel utterly and completely welcome. There are so many little touches that delight; the popcicle hotline at the pool (just pick up the phone and a member of staff will deliver the ice-lolly or candy of your choice - no charge), the DVD library (can borrow any of the movies listed - no charge), ample parking (no charge), the breakfast table sheet telling you the day's weather forecast and events going on in L.A. on that day (complete with info on how to buy tickets), the pool life vests for kids (no charge), and the lemonade on arrival (no charge). Plus, it's just a 5-minute walk to Hollywood's Walk of Fame. I have travelled the world, staying everywhere from 5-star hotels to camp-sites, and don't think I have ever been as impressed as I was by the Magic Castle. We would definitely return; no hesitation.

Room Tip: Room 205 is the best one-bedroom choice; Room 106 is the best two-bedroom (I asked several of the ma...

I went to California with my husband and my 18 year old son to celebrate my husbands birthday and our son's high school graduation. Staying at the Magic Castle Hotel was the highlight of our vacation. There was a special surprise waiting in the table when we got to our room for our celebration. There was also a surprise in the fridge.

We stayed in a one bedroom apartment on the top floor that overlooked the pool area. We did pay extra each night to reserve the balcony room over the pool. The room was spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable. My son slept on the pull out couch which he didn't seem to mind. There were two flat screen tv's in the room. There was a fully stocked kitchen.

There are no elevators, but the staff helped bring up luggage for us and the steps were not an issue.

We had a continental breakfast each morning that included scones, mini muffins, croissants, yogurt, fruit, coffee, and a variety of juices.

The free snacks and drinks were very nice. We also utilized their free laundry service which was wonderful.

There is secured parking. Parking is additional charge. It is tight fit but my husband did not have any problems with parking.

The location is wonderful. Very close to Hollywood Blvd and Grauman's Chinese Theater. Although we had a car, we walked around to most areas. The Metro is within walking distance. We used the Metro to get to Universal Studios which was very convenient and nice and beats driving in LA traffic. There is shuttle that is close by the Universal Studios metro station stop that picks you up and drops you right off at Universal Studios.

The main thing that makes this hotel so wonderful is the employees. I have never experienced such wonderful customer service. They went out of their way to make sure that our stay was wonderful. Some of the employees actually remembered each of our names. The wonderful customer service started prior to our stay. They answered questions through email and helped us book a tour of LA which picked us up right at the hotel. We were very sorry to leave and hope to stay here again, and hopefully go to the Magic Castle the next time we stay.

This is WITHOUT DOUBT the best hotel I've stayed in. If I ever go back to L.A I'll go here. This place is all about the service. For me, Kevin made our stay and our holiday. We're still talking about him. Kevin, we miss you...your bag of treats for our road trip lasted until the flight home! We compared every hotel we stayed at on a month long road trip to this one and nothing lived up to it. Not even five star Vegas.

The location is perfect, one block from the Walk of Fame and just five minutes from the Highway to get wherever you need to go by car. Watch out for the fantastic complimentary breakfast. Enjoy borrowing DVDs, asking for snacks, having a late night swim. Watch out for magician Alponso at breakfast and chat to Darren the Manager for the best L.A (and California!) tips. By the way...they don't want tipping either.

Sure, the place isn't dripping in gold but if you're capable of a bit of banter with the staff, want to feel chilled out, well fed (they order takeout for you), looked after and cared for then this is the place for you. BUT, having observed other guests I've decided you've got to have a personality to stay here. By that I mean you need to manage your expectations, it's NOT five star, doesn't pretend to be. If you can't handle a joke and don't have a "YOLO" approach to life, go stay in a stuffy corporate environment instead where you can be anonymous and moan about every little detail. Or just stay at home and don't bother seeing the world.

Room Tip: Ask to overlook the pool. But if you like absolute silence...don't!

We enjoyed our stay here and would return, the room was too small for us (305) but we knew this when we booked the pool was a great addition and location perfect.
The staff went out there way to make you feel at home, great perks were the free snacks and drinks any time of the day, free laundry service.
Our room had a nosey air con that rattled the blinds sometimes in the night, we reported it and it was fixed the next day.
Our only gripe was that the blinds let in too much light in as I prefer a dark room to sleep in and wake up in and the wi-fi signal was weak, but better by the pool.
The bigger rooms looked great.
Would return and recommend.

We stayed here late July. Family of 4 adults. We were in California for 50 birthday celebrations. This hotel was fab. Really good location in Hollywood, staff were really good and couldn't do enough for us. Rooms really spacious and complimentary snacks and breakfast good. Even have free laundry facility.

We made reservations here to get into the Magic Castle. Not a fancy room. Very much enjoyed the late-night swimming. Was offered a ride to the club but it really isn't that far! The room was just fine but not as nice as other hotels for same price. Would stay again again for admission to the castle!
