“Service that can't be beaten!”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

We stayed for 3 nights in this hotel on our Honeymoon and I can't rate it highly enough. Although not luxurious, the room was a good size and very clean. We really appreciated the flowers on the bed, wine and cake that was waiting for us when we arrived with a card from the staff. It was a lovely way to start our honeymoon and made us smile after the worst and longest journey! And it is the staff that really make the stay so wonderful. They were all incredibly friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was great each day and the free snacks were amazing! The location cannot be beaten, just around the corner from the walk of fame! I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend this hotel and would stay here again if we are ever in LA.

We stayed here for four nights in August and I can't rate this hotel and the staff highly enough. All members of staff were so friendly and helpful (an extra mention here for Mallorie and Nick D). The General Manager, Darren, has fully embraced the 'family friendly' concept without it ruining the stay of those travelling without children. The hotel is one block away from the Walk of Stars/Chinese Theatre,so location is hard to beat. Our room was huge, with a balcony facing the pool, huge sofa bed in the lounge and separate bedroom. Both rooms had giant plasma TVs. The building was converted from private apartments to a hotel, so the rooms are all a little different. The pool is open 24hrs, (look out for the 'phone by the pool....). Laundry service was provided free of charge and delivered back to the room within 24 hrs. Free snacks available whenever you want....and I mean whenever you want. What is there not to love about this hotel? We loved the hotel and the staff and were sad to leave.

My husband and 11 year old daughter stayed here 3 nights recently and we all loved it! They go out of their way to welcome you. The service is the best I have ever seen. We could walk to great restaurants and to the Hollywood sites, and take the Metro easily to Universal Studios. The hotel itself is really cool and funky! I would stay here again over and over!

This hotel is located really close to the sights of LA. The room was not as nice as we expected but it was fairly reasonable for LA. We loved the free drinks and snacks, great addition. Having parking on site was really useful but beware it is very hard to park in!

Can't agree more with all the other 5 blob reviews. Service, service, service. What more can I say? Only this, I want to know Kevin's secret as to how he remembers everybody name. My children loved the snacks. It was a fantastic end to a great holiday.

It is a bit of a shock to see that this hotel is ranked #1 in LA. It is, after all, a small, somewhat dated hotel with few of the services found at larger places (no restaurant, no room service, no gym). But yes, as everyone says, the small staff sets this place apart. Where else do you see, for example, the Assistant Manager (Gretchen) walking from table to table during the (free) pools-side breakfast, checking that all are having a good time. She was wonderful ... and so were the others.

The manager of every hotel in America should be legally required to attend a Customer Care course run by the manager of the Magic Castle. From the moment you first enter, you are made to feel utterly and completely welcome. There are so many little touches that delight; the popcicle hotline at the pool (just pick up the phone and a member of staff will deliver the ice-lolly or candy of your choice - no charge), the DVD library (can borrow any of the movies listed - no charge), ample parking (no charge), the breakfast table sheet telling you the day's weather forecast and events going on in L.A. on that day (complete with info on how to buy tickets), the pool life vests for kids (no charge), and the lemonade on arrival (no charge). Plus, it's just a 5-minute walk to Hollywood's Walk of Fame. I have travelled the world, staying everywhere from 5-star hotels to camp-sites, and don't think I have ever been as impressed as I was by the Magic Castle. We would definitely return; no hesitation.

Room Tip: Room 205 is the best one-bedroom choice; Room 106 is the best two-bedroom (I asked several of the ma...
