“Great Stay”
Reviewed 20 January 2009

I booked the Magic Castle for a one night stay with my family to see Hollywood. The hotel called around noon and told me the room I booked was not available due to someone extending their stay. They appologized and offered me 2 rooms for the price of one and asked if that would be o.k. I said that it would work for us. The staff was the friendliest I have ever seen. The manager even made it a point to see me the next day and appologize again. Anything you asked for, they were happy to help. They have free snacks in the office and free movies to check out and will bring them to your room. The rooms are not the most updated but they are very clean and comfortable. The hotel is right in the heart of Hollywood so you are within walking distance of everything. Overall, this was one of my best stays.

Location is on a busy, convenient and noisy street. Ask to be at the back of the hotel or you must have the air conditioner turned on high to drown out the noise. We booked two Jr. suites...unfortunately located by the office and an electric front door that opened and closed CONSTANTLY. Our family in one room were unable to sleep past 6am due to the motor operating the door. The manager said, "No one has ever complained before"...(unlikely) but did offer to move us. The rooms are old ( built in early 1960's?) and remodeling was done by a poor amateur. Shutters on window were broken, but closeable one slat at a time. Bathroom was a step up and small cabinet was falling apart from water damage. We LOVED the down comforters and fluffy pillows on the exceptionally comfortable beds. The dry "breakfast" was marginal. As a hotel guest, the privilege of reservations at the magic shows in the historic Magic Castle next door, overshadowed the minimal frustration with the hotel.

Stayed here four night with my family around christmas.

We liked the Magic Castle Hotel very much. Everything worked very smoothly and we didn't face any problems.

We had asked for a quiet room in order to be able to rest out our jetlag and that was also what we got. The room was quiet, clean and functioning.

The best things about this hotel are location which couldn't be better and the nice staff. Our kids also enjoyed the possibility to use an outdoor swimming pool at this time of the year very much.

Their concept of complimentary snacks and DVD's was also very nice. At check in we received a list of snacks, beverages and DVD's available and you could ask for what you wanted whenever you felt like it. Quite a nice difference compared to other hotels whose minibar prices could be classed as robbery.

I warmly recommend this hotel.

Was here for the last night of our month long honeymoon. Location was great (just 5 mins walk from the Chinese Theatre, Walk of Fame etc), staff were really friendly, the room was a good size, and there was a pool to use. Definitely recommend it as a place to stay if you're visiting Hollywood.

A small, really friendly hotel 5 minutes from the Chinese Theatre. The rooms could be spruced up a bit but there is so much to do in LA that the room was only used for sleeping in.

Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and the hotel is literally a 5 minute walk from the Chinese Theatre, Walk of Fame etc.

Would definately reccommend if you are trying to stick to a budget and would return myself. Make sure you have a midnight swim!

I find it hard to fault the Magic Castle. Visited the Hotel twice in the past 10 years and this time around, had the choice of choosing a 'cheaper' deal at a hotel located just around the corner. I didn't think twice and plumped for the Magic.
Great spacious rooms, complimentary mini bar, cheap/secure car parking and the fact that you can sit poolside, enjoying the free breakfast whilst surfing the internet with the free wandering WIFI access makes the Magic real value for money and a cool place to be.
Can't wait for my return visit to LA and the brilliant Magic Castle Hotel. Oh, yes and the staff are friendly, helpful too.

The Magic Castle hotel is good value - we booked 2 rooms which were really large suites, with a kitchenette, sofabed and large dining table.

This would make an ideal base for staying for a few days to explore LA.

Pros:

- Good value

- Close to Graumann's Chinese Theatre etc.

- Great staff (really, they were very helpful and cheerful)

- Free "mini bar"; saves a fortune on candy and soda for the kids and water for us.

- great complementary continenal breakfast

- pool open all hours

Cons:

- Lots and lots of stairs. A bit of a pain when dragging in 2 week's worth of luggage into and out of, but other than that not a problem.

- No views from the rooms

- could do with the interior decor updating and brighter lighting in the rooms (they were really quite dark even in full daylight)

We stayed just around the corner from the Magic Castle hotel, in the Hollywood Celebrity , in March. Whilst their rooms are cheaper, they are also smaller and there is no pool.

As long as you aren't expecting the Ritz, this is a great place to stay.

  • Liked — Large rooms, free wireless internet, pool open all hours, friendly staff, breakfast
  • Disliked — Stairs, dark rooms.

Thank you so much for taking taking the time to comment regarding your stay with us. I'm so glad you enjoyed your time at Magic Castle Hotel. I just wanted to mention (for your future stays) and to other readers....if the steps are an issue for anyone, please don't hesitate to request a room on the courtyard level. This way you will only have to deal with a few steps leading to our lobby.

We hope to see you back here and thank you very much for staying with us.

Sincerely,
Darren Ross
