Can't say enough good things about our recent experience at Nick's. To begin, Nick came out to greet us and ask if we had any special requests. The staff was both friendly and professional. Most importantly, the food was cooked to perfection. My meatloaf was just like homemade and my wife's short ribs were absolutely melt in your mouth good. The other couple enjoyed their dinners also. The veal chop was done perfectly as were the seafood dish.

Remember to make a reservation because Nick's is always packed and the parking can be a challenge.

Nicks Next Door is pretty popular with the locals, it's not a very big place, but very busy all the time. Service is excellent, with many people making sure everything is good. Hub and I came here on date night. Ordered the ribeye with bone marrow, I had the Chilean sea bass, and brussel sprouts as a veg. We also got the mushroom risotto balls as an appetizer.
Food was scrumptious, and we left leaving happy and full. Prices are average for Los gatos

The lunch menu is a good value. Appetizers were under $15, probably even under $10 if I recall correctly. Entrees about $13+ for lunch.. Great wine selection. A bit noisy but this isn't necessarily a romantic night out spot unless you are really adept at tuning other people out. More like, "Hey no kids tonight. Let's NOT go to a chain restaurant that serves chicken fingers!" kind-of-place. I would describe the cuisine as modern Californian or modern American. Beautifully presented and tasty food. I am definitely looking forward to going back.

Nick's - now Nick's Next Door is an excellent dining experience in Los Gatos. In a town filled with restaurants and choices - there is a reason that Nick's is the hardest to get into on a Friday night. The food is consistent and delicious - well thought out menu items - some change from time to time but there are a few standards that would probably cause a riot if they were taken off the menu - the truffle mushroom soup whenever available must be tried, abalone is outstanding - the meatloaf (seriously this is not your mother's meatloaf) and the bolognese are a few faves. The service is friendly, attentive and makes you feel like a member of the family - Nick's family that is - Nick is the consummate perfectionist and a charming host as well. Once you dine here - you will be hooked - just don't expect to wander in without a reservation unless you are lucky enough to grab a bar seat. Can be a little loud - but honestly that way you can focus on your fabulous dinner instead of conversation! Lunch menu is also delicious and easier to get in at lunch time - don't miss Nick's - it's the best in LG.

We had a pleasant dinner with friends. Off the beaten path, this cozy (some may say crowded) restaurant has a menu to please most anyone. From appetizers to desserts, the food was very tasty, moderately priced and were decent portions. Nothing was 'wow' but nothing was disappointing either. This would be a great place to meet friends for dinner. We'll be back for sure.
