I have been fortunate to experience Steamers at its onset in the 1980s. It was a local Los Gatos restaurant with great character emulating the fish houses of New England. It has progressively moved into 3 different larger locations over the 30 years and has morphed into a standard nice quality restaurant run like an institutional company. Nothing wrong with that, but it just loses its character of the past. I think the management has changed over the years and so has the food that is offered and the care in which the food is prepared.
I can't say the food is not good, it's just that it is the same as you get at every fine corporate run Italian restaurant in the Area....it is almost a mirror image of Fontanas in Cupertino; so you can have a very fine meal there, just as long as you have not experienced the old Steamers.
