First off this is not a B&B, but rooms a man rents (at B&B rates) in his home. He does serve a breakfast though. We reserved the suite for two nights in April 2006 for a special get away trip.
The good points of this place is the views of Clear Lake, Mt Konocti & surrounding area are superb, day & night. They can be enjoyed from upstairs balcony off of two rooms, or the downstairs deck. It is very quite here also. There are easy and difficult hikes along the ridge which also affords great views and some fresh air & exercise. The suite is spacious with its’ own bathroom, which includes a jacuzzi tub that accommodates one and a separate shower. It is nicely decorated and a comfortable room. The other two rooms share a bathroom that is located in the hall. They are smaller but nicely decorated. One room has the balcony & views.
The bad points: Our suite that we reserved was double booked and he asked if we would switch rooms after our first night. I said no, it would be inconvenient. When we arrived at 4:00 pm, the front entrance door was barricaded and it was not clearly marked how to even get into the house. Various hoses, poles, buckets of rocks and other construction debris littered the walkway on the side of the house all the way up to the back door. It really was sad as the back yard faces the views and should be better kept and inviting for guests to enjoy. The owner said the suite was still not cleaned and could we take the other view room. We at least looked at the much smaller room that shares a bathroom with the 3rd room. We said no, we will go to dinner and we’ll be back in a couple hours. He recommended a restaurant in town (The Marina Grill) and it turned out to be the worst café in the state. He hadn’t been there in a while. The breakfasts here were not gourmet as the web-site suggests, but small, plain, boring, and cold to lukewarm. No coffee or tea was available at other times. No cookies. Just a few stale pistachios. In the tub was one bar of used soap and no other bath products besides liquid soap was available. The water was not really hot enough for a soaking bath, and there was an insufficient supply of TP in the room. There is an old television and video tape player circa 1970 in the suite, if you care for those things. No cable, satellite, or videos.
Bottom line this place has great views and a comfortable room, but the no frills and lack of ambiance left us disappointed. This business is suffering from neglect on a number of points.
