Having been delayed at the airport, we were unable to book into the hotel that we had been aiming for in Malibu. We decided to go for a luxurious first night in the states, and booked into a gorgeous room overlooking the sea. Although it was lovely, it didn't provide the value for money that we got in other locations

This hotel offered some great touches like a fireplace, an ipad and binoculars to watch the surfers. We had a king room facing the pier, and it gave us the perfect amount of space to have a few friends over. Loved the service on the beach and the proximity to the pier. Room service food was great!

Room Tip: The king rooms have decent views of the water, but I kind of wish I got the oceanfront queen

Room was smaller than I expected but the view and the feeling of being right on top of the ocean was worth every cent. Our stay would have been perfect if we had encountered different staff. We checked in with one person (I can't remember the name). We then encountered this same person several times during our stay and each time she asked us if we were checking in. She had absolutely no recollection of seeing us. It became a standing joke between us! We sat one afternoon in the restaurant for dessert and found the staff very unfriendly until we told them that we were guests then they were a bit more friendly. We had dinner one evening in Nobu Malibu which was wonderful, fabulous service. The staff at the at the Malibu Beach Inn could learn a lot from Nobu and also from the Four Seasons Beverly Hills where we had stayed for our previous 5 nights.

We stayed last May after eating at the restaurant on a previous location. Our stay overall was good but unfortunately the service was sub par. We were there when a bridal party had a good many of the rooms booked which meant the restaurant was always full. My husband and I have four kids and made the splurge to stay to get a nice & relaxing break from our craziness back home. We made reservations ahead of time for a romantic dinner our first night there and was hoping for the same enjoyment we had the last time we are there. Unfortunately there was a very large and extremely loud group (from the wedding) there who took the extra seats from our table and just moved them to face their table with it asking (which meant they we sitting practically at our table) they used highly offensive language and the content of conversation was far from comfortable. The manager was well aware of this but didn't mind the disturbance, I'm guessing bc of how many of the occupants at the hotel were with that party. I totally understand needing to accommodate a large party like that but it shouldn't have been at the cost of our meal and experience. We showed our disproval in a polite way yet never was offered a different table or anything else...just a "I'm sorry, they are kinda crazy-huh" The money we spent on our weekend alone is more then some are willing to pay for an entire vacation so we were very disappointed. I have since learned that there is new management. This makes me excited to give it another try as it is still one of my favorite places! Most of the servers are absolutely delightful, most especially Trent Hunter. He was the only one who was as mortified as we were by our dinner the first night. I believe it is hard to find a hotel that can provide such an atmosphere so close to the ocean and so intimate. I would love to go back but can only hope we are treated as importantly as the rest of the guests. On a side note, I got to meet Cuba Gooding Jr who was also staying at the hotel. This hotel brings in celebrities but guests are expected to give them their privacy!

Spent a week here while at a conference at Pepperdine University. We were in a pier view king which allowed ample room for the 3 of us (2 adults and a rowdy 4 year old) while being more budget friendly than the oceanfront rooms. The hotel started to feel like a home away from home.

Nice touches in the room were the iPad and binoculars. Cool ideas. Super comfortable bed. Nice seating area with large sleeper sofa and leather chair and ottoman. And I do love the fireplace. Something about having a fire and watching the waves of the Pacific.

Service is attentive without being fussy or stuffy. Housekeeping was seamless; each morning we left the room early, hung the housekeeping sign on the door, my husband and son dropped me off at class, went to breakfast or to a park and by the time they got back the room was clean. Likewise they picked me up each evening, we went to dinner, and when we returned to the hotel turn down service was complete.

Front desk was friendly; valets were quick and super nice. Never had a problem getting the car within about 2 minutes even during a busy wedding reception. No need to call down; just walk down to valet and they will immediately get your car. Actually quicker than calling. We were in and out of valet a few times a day. Yes, valet is a little expensive, but space and parking are at a premium in this area. I get it.

I do wish they had a fridge other than the minibar. My son is a milkaholic so we always try to keep a half gallon for him. Don't get me wrong, the lady downstairs at the desk happily offered to get him milk (great service), but at the quantities he drinks we didn't want to keep running down there. We ended up buying a cooler and leaving it on the balcony, but we did feel a bit like the "rednecks come to Malibu" doing so. We also had a lot of leftovers from some of the great Malibu restaurants that went to waste because we had no fridge. I recognize that the hotel's average clientele probably doesn't need or even want this and that I've probably spent a few too many nights in deluxe Disney familycentric resorts, so take this comment for what it's worth.

Loved watching the surfers past the pier from our balcony. They were there in mass morning to night. It became a daily routine to count how many were there at sunrise and again just before dark. Also enjoyed a variety of restaurants within walking distance.

Cool place. Loved our time here. We will be back.

My family (brother and parents) stayed at the 'Malibu Beach Inn' after a ten hour flight from London. I can honestly tell you that it was the best choice possible. The location was beautiful, and the staff gave us a very warm welcome. After going on the beach (which was reserved for hotel guests only) we had a superb meal at the Carbon Beach Club (the hotels own restaurant), very much enjoyed by all the family. All being incredibly tired, we went to bed, enjoying the perfect sleep because the beds were so comfortable. Upon waking up, we ate again at the Carbon Beach Club, and I would suggest that you should eat there, whether you like a refreshing smoothie, three egg omelet or Belgian waffle, plus many more expertly made breakfast dishes. Overall, I would suggest that you stay in the Malibu Beach Inn if you ever visit California.
