Moonshadows is perched precariously out over the beach in Malibu, so when you dine there you are reminded of eating on a high-end cruise ship-- without the motion. The food is good, but nothing unforgettable. The service was friendly and professional. Prices are high, but not outrageous. All-in-all, we had a very enjoyable evening. A great way to get the Malibu experience without spending a fortune on either a meal or a house.

Very cool location. Absolutely. Great views and nice terrace. Just have a bit of luck that you're not stuck with a Russian sweet sixteen party next table.
Oysters we're almost not to mention so small and not tasty. But! The lobster made up for all!! What a well balanced dish and very well prepared! Together with the very welcoming service of the staff: a nive evening. Will try again to make sure that this really is a four star rating instead of three this time...

Choose a table by the window. With the side-arching beams you feel like you're in a ship; the water is below you and waves wash under. The pumpkin tortelloni came with a wonderful sage butter and brown sugar sauce--not too sweet. Homemade pasta. The salmon had perfectly grilled asparagus and fingerling potatoes. Pear, Gorgonzola and greens salad was lightly dressed. I appreciated the modest portion sizes--delicious and comfortable to eat. A bottle of decent Australian Sauvignon Blanc cost $32 but prices for the food were steep. The rhubarb strawberry cobbler was one of the best desserts I've ever eaten. Service was attentive.Make a reservation if you plan to arrive after 5:30pm Parking for a fee.

Moonshadows is a Malibu mainstay -- perhaps best known as the place Mel Gibson was drinking before receiving his infamous PCH DUI -- and its understandable why. Its a great place to listen to the waves break on shore as you enjoy your martinis on the outdoor daybeds. The food is fine, certainly not memorable but its a great place for daytime or night, to forget your problems and enjoy the serenity of the 'Bu. Also, some great people watching if you enjoy guessing how the 20 something wannabe starlet ended up at dinner with the limping grandpa with the ascot.

Great night time atmosphere. The main dining room overlooks the ocean. Lights on the water attract dozens of floating seagulls that kept us entertained. We were also treated to occasional glimpses of a seal swimming among the birds.

The adjoining Blue Lounge has outdoor dining and was jumping on a Friday night with a DJ.

The food was good. Everyone in our group liked their meal from clam chowder, lobster salad, thai shrimp, pumpkin ravioli, to miso cod. As another reviewer said, the view improves the good but not great food.
