the food is really great and the place has a nice decor, but the music is too loud and everybody is yellong instead of talking. i had to ask the nice and friendly waitress to lower the volume, wich she did, and then it became bearable.
the raw bar was great, specially the scallops. the redesigned clam chowder was also very tasteful.
strongly recommended if you don't mid loud music.

Have been here twice now and loved it each time. The raw bar is great, with an assortment of oysters from both West and East Coast, as well as scallops, clams, and crab. The clam chowder is perhaps the best I have ever had - very rich and creamy with bits of bacon. Many of the larger plates, like the grilled octopus, fish & chips, tuna tartare are also outstanding. Finally, the drinks are delicious, and there are cool seafood-related posters all around the restaurant, making for a great setting.

We had delicious oysters and raw scallops that melted in your mouth so beautifully you can't imagine eating them cooked again. But the best part of the evening was dessert...chocolate and pretzel bread pudding with ice cream...We were speechless. Yes this place is small, the music is a wee loud, and its pricey, but the service and food are 5 star. Instead of having to make an afternoon reservation on-line...call them and ask for a table at an hour you want to eat!!!

Tiny restaurant so the only spot for us to sit was at the raw bar. Amazing meal, great service. The only negative was the music was so loud we had to yell to each other (even though we were sitting hip to hip) in order to be heard.

Intrigued by the good vibes on TA, we decided to try this restaurant. The only reservation available was for 3:30 PM, on a Thursday night. OK, we're early diners, no problem. We arrived at 3:30 pm to an empty restaurant, as in the whole place to ourselves. We ordered appetizers, and a couple of main dish, and french fries, mistake. Everything came to the tiny table all at once. Apparently, they don't sequence the courses. We had a couple glasses of white wine which were flat, noseless. I expected better for $11 a pop (6 oz). We had a platter with oysters and mussels. The oysters were absolutely to die for. Very, very fresh, sweet, salty, briny, oystery. However, the mussels were pre-cooked, ice cold, a bit dry, but well seasoned, with tidbits of parsley. They would have been much better if cooked a-la-minute. Wify had grilled octopus. It was somewhat crunchy on the outside, a little chewy, but not too bad, particularly with a little of the saffron aioli. I had the Hamachi, nicely presented, fresh, sliced very thin. It was tasty, served with a well balance citrus gastrique, and shaved radishes. However, I did found a bone in one of the slices, be careful. Good thing we ordered french fries, because the main dish are rather small. Dessert was good but nothing spectacular, the pretzel chocolate bread pudding was dry and did not taste much like chocolate, however the bourbon sauce was very tasty, Overall, not bad for Manhattan Beach.
