“Eclectic Hotel Near Manhattan beach and LAX”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

Great service, great food and great mid century modern décor. On busy Supulveda Street but it is tucked in behind so you would never know it as it feels like you are in some quaint neighborhood. Bar upstairs, has great menu, great service and awesome cocktails. Really cool vibe. Did not hit the pool but looks awesome with a nice courtyard. Small property but very friendly staff and they offer you a Ding Dong at the check in counter - how cool is that? Room was huge. I would definitely return.

We spent two nights at this hotel while on a family vacation in SOCAL. The rooms were clean, but fairly small and not really have that "boutique" feel. The doors are thin and allow noise from the hallway into the room. The staff was not overly friendly and the $10 valet parking is kind of a waste. The hotel has a good location to a variety of attractions, but you will have to drive to them all. The beach is a good 10 minute drive, so don't plan on walking. The courtyard is a very nice touch to this hotel. It is the perfect place to hang out in the evenings or sip your coffee and read the newspaper in the morning. My kids also loved the pool. the pool has an 8 foot deep end, so use caution with non-swimming and young children.

Dear Brian S.,

We wish to thank you for your review and your recent stay at the Belamar Hotel in Manhattan Beach. We are all glad to hear you and your family enjoyed the Courtyard and our pool area during your recent visit. The beach is a bit of a walk as you mentioned, about 20 minute walk to get there. The hotel does offer rental bikes and locks for rent as well to make the distance easier to traverse. Our sincere apology that you felt our team and staff were not enagaging and friendly. We definitely want you to feel welcome and taken care of by the team. We will be sure to share your feedback with the team as we want everyone to feel they are welcome at the Belamar. We appreciate you letting us know so that we can share this with our team for improvement.

We thank you for your stay and your review of the hotel. We hope to see you again soon and if you wish to discuss the concerns with staff, I am more than happy to discuss and review with you directly and can be reached at my contact information enclosed below.

Thank you,

We stayed here only for one night. We had booked king room with breakfast package. The room we were given was not "boutique" in any way. It definitely had signs of aging and the worst part was it looked directly into the parking lot and houses across the street. We saw valet guy parking our car close to our window and looking into our room. Super Awkward! We had to pull thick curtains over the windows and had no natural light for entire stay!

Another problem, only two regular pillows for the king bed, along with two square pillows which didn't seem to have fresh covers. Only one bath robe per room. The bed also felt smaller than regular king size bed.

On the contrary, the buffet breakfast was good and the guys running the restaurant were super nice.

Dear Penndesi,

Thank you for your stay with the Belamar Hotel. I am very sorry to hear that you felt the room was unacceptable for the view and location. Please feel free to contact me directly so that I can complete a complimentary upgrade for your next visit tot he Belamar. The parking lot does have some rooms that it faces which I understand are not premium views, but we do have upgraded rooms with inner courtyard views. i am happy to assist with that the next time you are here. We will look at possibly adding more pillows for the future to give a better sleep experience, but please call down anytime to get additional pillows as we certainly have more on hand for your personal benefit. We thank you for your patronage and do hope you will give us another chance, please contact me to secure the upgrade to a better view for your next stay, I would love the chance to make it up to you for this stay. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of service in any way.

Sincerely,

I love this hotel. The staff is great and the location could not be any better. You can walk to the mall and restaurants across the street. A new 'huge' shopping mega structure is going in a few blocks away. This is the hub of everything and downtown MB is a few miles away as well. This hotel has a lovely restaurant upstairs and really nice rooms as well. Try it!

Room Tip: Go upstairs near the restaurant.

I stayed here attending an event held at the hotel. It's location is pretty close to LAX and is tucked between a very busy intersection and an upscale neighborhood. It's a boutique style hotel and it's deco is modern vintage? The colors and surfaces are modern but the photographs are of vintage 50's Barbie type dolls, very cute. Rooms are comfy and clean. There is a little pool and a nice banquet area. They have bikes you can ride to the beach. Right across the street is a big mall with shops and restaurants. A little further down another shopping center with Anthro, Mac, container store, nordsrtoms. I would recommend this for a quick LA stopover... Wouldn't want to stay for a vacation though

Room Tip: Ask for a courtyard view

I had two rooms, the first was dingy and gross and I didn’t like at all. The second was much better, overlooking the courtyard. The rooms were quiet and the service was very nice. They're in need of an update but not that bad. The amenities were fine. They shut the water off at noon, so I had brown water a few times which grossed me out, luckily they have free coffee in the lobby every morning...I didn’t trust the coffee maker. Over all, I’d stay again. The location is great, Manhattan Beach is a 30 minute stroll down the Wood Chip path that is right down the street.

Room Tip: Spend a little more for a room looking out to the courtyard.
