“Just OK.”
Reviewed 10 April 2012

I have high expectations from Marriott as we stay mostly at this brand. This property is just ok. On the positive side, it has been recently renovated. The room we started in had two double beds, a small desk, a small coffee maker, closet and bathroom. My husband was on a business trip and we came along. We asked for a roll a way bed but were told a roll a way wouldn't fit in our room. So, to their credit, they moved us across the hall to a king bed with a roll a way. The furnishings were just ok, although the beds were comfortable they were too soft. This hotel is primarily a business hotel and has a golf course behind it. It is very close to the airport and I saw lots of pilots and flight attendants checking in here. It is okay for a stop over, but we were here for three nights. On the negative side, the first night we were here there were people yelling out on the hall, cursing, acting like hillbillies. This drives me crazy, especially in the middle of the night. We were told the "problem" had been removed and we didn't experience it again. The soundproofing isn't good at all. I was constantly asking for more towels. As with any full size Marriott, breakfast is good but always expensive. The parking here is atrocious at $25 a night in a tiny little parking garage. The pool is nice. This area is very nice and very affluent. I'm sure there were better properties. Overall I would say this property is just ok.

Nice hotel not far from LAX. Stayed 1 night for business, room was clean and faced the golf course. Actually a very nice view from the deck in the evening and the morning. For some reason, no chairs on the deck which would have been nice. There is a charge for in room internet and parking. Free wi-fi in lobby area. PF Changs and other restaurants within walking distance. The parking charge and internet charge will keep me from staying again. Also forget about early coffee...... they will direct you to the Starbucks in the shopping center nearby.

Some of the ways this property was disappointing . . . I could hear my neighbors talking and activities through the paper-thin adjoining door. The sound-proofing was so poor that I could hear doors slamming throughout the corridor. Thankfully I brought a sound machine. No lotion in the room . . . not a biggie but representative of the lack of amenitites. I requested a room with a refrigerator and next to my friend, and the requests were not provided. Parking garage not particularly convenient to hotel.

You can't go wrong with the Marriott. However that brings us to have a very high level of expectation.
We were disappointed not to be able to order strong coffee for breakfast - no cappuccino, espresso etc. Only the watery starbucks filter coffee. As europeans, we find that quite undrinkable. A Marriott next to LAX should accommodate better.
Other than that, it was a lovely stay.

Room Tip: ask for a golf facing room.

This is a very nice Marriott, located fairly close to LAX, yet just far enough away so that traffic and airport noise are no problem. The property has a beautiful front entrance and huge lobby, nicely appointed and boasting a large and lively lobby bar. The lobby overlooks the lush golf course. There is a large outdoor pool, with cabanas provided, and also a nice hot tub. The hotel staff is well trained and extremely friendly. The guest rooms are generously sized and all the amenities one expects from Marriott with one exception: there is no in-room safe provided, which in this day and age has become a must-have for most frequent travelers. The downtown area of Manhattan Beach is just a few miles away, and offers some nice casual California beachy type restaurants. On departure it is wonderful to be only 15 minutes to LAX, or 5 minutes to the 405.

A very nice location in many respects, but somewhat typical of large older Marriotts, lots of add on fees, topped by $21 a day for parking. On the plus side it is less than 2 miles from the beach, and the golf course side rooms have a nice balcony and view, but at least ours had no chairs on it. Oddly and unlike Mariotts there was no hotel information in the room, so we did not know what restaurants and services were even available. Unless we missed it somewhere it appears the only restaurant is a 'cafe' style restaurant that does have a nice patio on the golf course, and for breakfast and lunch was pricey but very good. It is just far enough from the beach to be too long of a walk, but there is a nice bike/jogging trail we discovered that bypasses having to walk on the highway. The hotel has a nice bike rental program with a $30 price tag for a 24 hour rental (not bad compared to some). The rooms were nice but not specatacular or large. Lots of restaurants in the area.

Room Tip: Golf course side of the hotel, you have a balcony with a nice view, and quieter

I have stayed at this hotel about four maybe five times in the last six months. If you get the AAA discount or similar, the price is reasonable, but then you get the room with the ugly view instead of the nice view of the golf course. I hate to pay $21 for parking ($26 for valet) but the one thing I like the least is the falseness of the employees. This is common in chain hotels like this one, not luxury hotels but big, large with a reputation. I guess they train their employees to say things they are far from really meaning, and that bugs me. If you do not really really mean it, do not say it. This applies to almost everyone except bellman, they have always been excellent. I am not sure if I will be coming back.

Room Tip: Pricewise, AAA offers a good discount. Also, if you go with a car and plan to leave about checkout...
