We picked the Foghorn as a less costly alternative to other waterfront hotels nearby for a recent friend's wedding (two nights). We were not offended by anything--the staff was particularly helpful and attentive--but this place could use a little sprucing up. We had a ground floor room that had a large, glassed-in patio with a view of the marina. The room was reasonably large, too, with sufficient ventilation not to require the use of the (noisy) window A/C. Breakfast was satisfactory, but not exceptional in any way. Fixtures, furniture and carpet were older and could have used some TLC and freshening up. The room was clean enough, but it had been too long since the last rennovation.

At first we were somewhat put off by the liquor store that shares the parking lot, but, at least the weekend we were there, we were not aware of any negative events. Free self-parking. Several nearby restaurants that we could walk to. Close enough so we could walk to Venice Beach.

Overall we had a good weekend at a bargain compared to other nearby hotels.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room if you want a large patio. The higher floors might provide a littel mor...

Everybody have a right to valuate things differently. After reading good reviews we booked this hotel and were rather disappointed. Room on the first floor was very outdated and lacking renovation. It didn't felt very clean - maybe not so much problem in cleaning but in very old carpet and old bed linen. Some smell in the room. Beach in front of the room wasn't looking very nice and rather made concern about safety during a night if to leave doors open. Breakfast was acceptable, served in the room looking like mom's kitchen from seventies. If it would cost half of price we have paid - I could rate it as good motel/hostel for backpackers.

This was such a sweet find. Location was excellent with plenty of restaurants and sights and the beach w/in walking distance. Besides the convenient location, the hotel itself was very charming as we had a balcony w/ a beautiful view, breakfast was great and a very accommodating staff and manager, Graham. We will return for sure! Staab Family

This hotel is is fine, no doubt about it. Big rooms, good breakfast (above average selection of food). The staff were very friendly. They had free parking and WiFi, all of it worked well.
We had a room with a nice big patio and a view of the water from the room, really nice.
Only thing was that it looked a little more cosy in the pictures, then in real life.. But it is really a good hotel.

My husband and I attended a family wedding in the area. The Foghorn was recommended and we stayed for several nights. Great view of the marina, clean white fluffy towels, clean room, comfortable beds and a pot of coffee ready at all times. Breakfast was beyond a normal continental- a variety for all. Helpful folks at desk who always helped with directions and answered questions. A gem in the area amd we'll return.

The first room we had was pretty awful but the manager switched us immediately to a nicer room. Great view of the beach and the marina. Wonderful location. Beds were comfy and room was very clean. Expect a little beach motel and that is what you get. Price is a bit high but the going rate.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a second floor room

Upon arrival at the Foghorn Harbor Inn, we were told the hotel did not have our reservations. The desk clerk suggested we had probably booked at the "Day's Inn" and were mistaken. When I showed her the confirmation number with the Foghorn Harbor Inn written beside it, she shrugged and said there was nothing they could do. She blamed the mix up on hotels.com. When I got hotels.com on the line, they said our reservations had been confirmed via e-mail by the hotel. The hotel attendant would not talk to hotels.com on my cell but insisted that they call on a different line. Meanwhile, my family is waiting in the parking lot as we are now "hotel orphans."
In the end, hotels.com arranged for us to stay in a beautiful place nearby.
So, hooray hotels.com. Boo, Foghorn Inn.
