“Historic and comfortable”

Each room in this small family run hotel is different - size, capacity, decor. We stayed in Della's room, which is located on the back side of the hotel on the corner giving us windows overlooking both the patio of the restaurant/bar next door and the hills behind the town. Comfy beds and nice linens; friendly owner operators; coffee and pastries in the morning and a back porch to sit and enjoy them on. This hotel is located in a historic building, which means older architecture - we could hear people chatting outside as well as doors opening/closing in the morning. Nothing loud, just basic living noise. We would definitely return if passing through this small town again.

My wife and I decided to go up to Mariposa CA and visit family for a couple of days. We thought it would be nice to stay at the Mariposa Hotel Inn on the main drive through Mariposa. We stayed in the Gertrude- Rose Room #7. It has two wonderfully comfortable beds. Normally on the first night one does not sleep well. However, I never even woke up once. The bathroom has a skylight! It was unexpectedly helpful for a soft nightlight for my wife. Flannel sheets were welcome during the cold night. We were given a tour of the hotel and manager Mary introduced us to Scott, a small business owner downstairs, who is a master jeweler. She said he has some gorgeous stuff. We ate dinner at Sals, a Mexican restaurant up the street about 4 blocks. The food was fantastic and the prices were very reasonable. Lots of chips and they just kept bringing them. The service was great. The next day we decided what the heck, we will try the little next-door deli called the YosemiTea Company for some hot chocolate, pastries and snacks. Nice . Make sure to sit in the back of the deli where the owner keeps all her cool tea pots.We would definitely stay at this hotel again. When manager Mary checked us in and showed us our room, she asked if we would be happy with the room. Never have we had such personal attention from a hotel manager.

Room Tip: Stayed in the Gertrude- Rose Room #7 nice large room, 2 beds and they are comfortable

We spent the Valentine weekend 2013 in Mariposa at the Mariposa Hotel Inn. We were very happy with this quaint hotel and it's staff. We stayed in the Evelyn and Carmelo room. Secluded with a great outside deck. It's in the heart of town close to shopping and places to eat.

I love love love love this hotel!!!!
We've been to so MANY hotels during our US trip from budget rooms to five star boutiques. I'd say this place is the BEST of all - beautiful, historical, personal, memorable and reasonable price! The hotel owners are also very nice and friendly.

I would definitely return to Mariposa Hotel Inn if I have a chance.

Driving through Mariposa we were instantly keen to stay at this place. Having made no reservation or any prior expectations it was a real pleasure to be greeted by the friendly owner John. Johns a character and it's these people you meet on your journeys through life that make your memories.
Easy hour out to Yosemite and with the options we drove past which were closer we were pretty chuffed with ourselves for "finding" this little hotel.
As I write this I am sitting here on the homely balcony with plants growing out of antique basins enjoying a cold drink.
Ask for the "honeymoon suite" if you come here. It opens out to the balcony away from the street and it has an amazing stain glassed window which was commissioned by the previous owners. Awesome with the moonlight shining through it.
Look. If you are looking for a sterile "chain" style of accommodation option...then you should drive on past. We believe we have completely lucked out with the best place in town and I'm excited that I can tell you all about it.

When we first arrived, the hotel looked exactly as it did on the website. Parking for the hotel was easy and it was conveniently located for many of the restaurants and shops in Mariposa. The drive to Yosemite was less than an hour. We liked the general feel of the hotel and the traditional furnishings. The room itself was bigger than we expected and everything seemed in order. When we first arrived, we left our bags in the room and then went for a walk around the town to get our bearings. Our feelings soon changed however when we returned to the room to unpack.

First of all we noticed a piece of chocolate on the floor that had clearly been there a while. On closer inspection we then found dead insects in the corners of the room, including a squashed bug on the wall. The floor was extremely dusty and the rugs were filthy, meaning that we both wore sandals in the room as we did not want to walk around barefooted. The whole room seemed very dusty with dirt/dust covering the wardrobe, the shelves either side of the bed and the tops of the pictures on the wall. We were rather disappointed that the shower head could not be attached to a rail, meaning that you had to shower whilst constantly holding the shower head. The bottom of the bath looked like it needed scrubbing therefore a bath was not an option. Upon stepping out of the shower/bath, the mats on the floor also looked like they needed washing. The rest of the bathroom seemed okay but we both found it quite odd that the coffee machine was in the bathroom (again, the cups provided were stained therefore we did not use). The bed linen was generally clean, although there was a rather large stain on the corner of one of the pillow slips. Thankfully the other side seemed clean enough.

The “Continental Breakfast” provided was far from what you would expect. It mainly consisted of a few croissants/slices of brown bread for toasting, yogurt, orange juice, coffee/tea and a fruit cobbler. Only half of the food was covered, which was strange considering the breakfast area was outside on a veranda with flies and hummingbirds everywhere! There were no cereals, fresh fruit or alternative bread and pastries and there was only a jug of orange juice with no other alternative. Only butter, grape jelly or Skippy peanut butter was provided as preserves. We were more disappointed by the fact that the breakfast on the second morning seemed to be whatever was left over from the previous day. The croissants were stale and inedible meaning that we only had a yogurt each and had to buy something on our way to Yosemite. Needless to say this put us off and we bought breakfast elsewhere for the rest of our stay.

Finally, we were rather disappointed to be told on the third day of our stay that the rooms were not serviced unless you asked! Even then we were only told this after we asked for more toilet paper and some fresh towels. Surely this is something that should be made known to guests when they check in?

We would have to agree with the previous reviewer in that if the hotel had a thorough clean and employed a decent cleaner, then we would have scored the hotel higher. We would also have given a better score if a bit more effort was made with the breakfast. It is such a shame as the hotel itself has a lot of potential.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in June 2012 we don't mind old fashioned/ shabby chic and were not expecting 5* accomodation, however there is no excuse for a dirty room. The bathroom was cleaner when we left. The bathroom surfaces were very dirty/ dusty and bathroom floor full of long dark hair (not ours). The room was generally very dirty with thick dust on the lamps and numerous artificial flowers. The shower curtain was thick with mould and was disgusting- the room looked as though it had not been cleaned for weeks. The outside space was also dirty and looked as though all the breakfast tables could do with a good scrub. We booked the hotel having looked at previous reviews but wish we hadn't. Having stepped over the homeless drunk guy sleeping at the rear entrance on our arrival we should have trusted our instincts and found somewhere else. Sorry Mariposa Hotel Inn if you had employed a decent cleaner I would have rated you much higher.
