I can only contribute to the past reviews. Lois & Jon are just the perfect hosts! From start to finish the experience is amazing. You just want to stay! We'll be back! PS: amazing food, all hand-made!
- Free Parking
- Breakfast included
Lois and Jon are two of the most perfect hosts ever. My partner and I were blown away by the amazing service and experience we had. We were worried as a gay couple about staying in rural California but Lois and Jon were just the most welcoming and accepting hosts ever, in Lois's words, "we're everyone friendly!" The rooms are comfortable, clean and are more like staying with family than at a B&B, but it's not the rooms that you come here for!
The place is about 20 minutes from Mariposa town on relatively good roads and has a lovely farm-like feel. There are deer and a little fox which visit the yard in the evenings and early mornings which is just magical. There's a lovely pool and a hot tub outdoors - though we didn't use these as it was a little chilly out, being November. That being said Jon had made a fire for us in the guest house section in which we were staying and it was super warm.
Now, the breakfast! This just goes on forever, Lois goes to so much effort each morning with pancakes, egg-dishes, sausage, bacon (which Jon reminded me is finger-food in California) muffin, bread, fruit, yoghurt and so on. Almost all of which is made by Jon or herself. Each day before we went out, lots had packed a snack bag for us to take, complete with muffins, fruit, trail mix and ice water.
All in all, I couldn't recommend staying with these wonderful people more!
Wow........ I can only repeat what so many other people have said before me. Our stay at the Restful Nest was perfect in every way.
After extensive research my mom, dad, husband and I decided to stay at the Restful Nest for 3 nights during our 3 week trip to Vegas/California. Our stay was from 21st to 24th August 2013. We booked the guest house and room 2 and were the only people staying for the 3 nights so had the place to ourselves...perfect!!
There is so much that you can say about Restful Nest which I will try to summarise quickly. Both the guest house and room 2 were more than adequate for our needs, very big and comfortable. The swimming pool was greatly appreciated and kept very clean. I am still amazed that I was swimming in the pool with the deer coming up to feed next to me! That leads me onto the wildlife. The deer and foxes came to feed everyday and the humming birds were just extraordinary. Lois and Jon were fantastic hosts welcoming us with open arms from the moment we arrived. We really were treated like family. The breakfasts........ well its all been said, they were amazing. Lunch was never needed in Yosemite as we were so full from breakfast and also had our little cool bag (made up by Jon each morning) with water, muffin cake and fruit to keep us going throughout the day. I must just mention Miss Kitty, as cat lovers she certainly made our stay very special and it was wonderful to see her enjoying her perfect surroundings!
On our first evening at the Restful Nest we ate at Savoury's in Mariposa. The food was wonderful and we had a lovely night, thoroughly recommended. We wished we would have had chance to eat there again.
The Restful Nest is a wonderful B&B in the most tranquil setting but I'm sure it would not get such good reviews without it's wonderful hosts. Lois and Jon really do make the Restful Nest a home from home. Thank you both so much!
We booked this accommodation relatively late because our Groveland B&B cancelled due to the Rim Fire and we chose Mariposa as the next best option (which probably turned out to be a better option in the end). Restful Nest is about a 10 minute drive out of Mariposa which was a bit off-putting at first but actually turned out to be a boon - it's so peaceful out of town. So what was so good about this B&B?
It had a pool - how many B&B's have one of those? Given it was well over 90 in the shade this was a distinct bonus. Great but not the real reason why this gets 5/5.
The room was big and well-appointed. It had everything that we needed for our stay. There was no fridge in the room but a massive one on the premises which we were free to use. In fact we had the impression that we could use pretty much anything that was around the place. Still not why we gave 5/5 though...
Deer visit every day - Jon puts out hay for them to eat and the whole family come to tea. Deer aren't that rare in this part of the country but having them in your back yard is really great. Still not a 5/5 clincher though.
This is why...
Lois and Jon themselves - they were such brilliant hosts. It was, quite literally, like going to stay with your Ma and Pa (without the bickering) - a really easy going atmosphere and making everything very comfortable. They always had time to chat, they'd offer good advice about the area, and they were genuinely interested in their guests without being at all over the top. You can tell that they enjoy what they are doing and are totally committed to making sure you have a great stay.
And, of course, there was Breakfast - notice that it's with a capital B! This has already been described and my description can't really improve on what's already been written. A beautifully laid out table and there's something for everyone at breakfast time. You absolutely will not leave the table feeling anything like empty. I'd also point out that Lois asked us, on the first night of our stay, if there is anything we didn't eat. My wife told her that she doesn't like cinnamon - which is found in a lot of breakfast fare over here. Well done to Lois who left it out almost completely and, on the one occasion she did use it, she let my wife know.
Breakfast was fantastic, easily the best we'd had, and whilst Lois did her best to get the table cleared she did know who to target with her cajoling (mainly breakfast junkie blokes like me - ladies with a smaller appetite got off lightly).
And so to the "survival pack". Each morning after breakfast we were sent out with water (a cold and a frozen bottle), more fruit, muffins from the breakfast, and some trail mix. These were in a cooler pack on those days we were returning in the evening. It's a bit like being back at school when your mum gives you the packed lunch and it was very much appreciated. Basically speaking, there was no need to buy lunch (which is even more appreciated in Yosemite Park). Oh yes, we were also supplied with a small pair of binoculars because we didn't have any.
They went a little beyond the call of duty, though, because our first contact with Lois and Jon was actually at 10am on the day of our first night - long before we were checking in. We had been staying nearby the night before and simply called in, completely unannounced, to drop off our cases as we were off to Yosemite and didn't want them left on show in the car.
Firstly we were warmly welcomed and then, even though all Lois and Jon needed do was store the cases somewhere, they went straight into the kitchen, found some provisions for a day pack and then sent us on our way with those. They didn't need to do that and we certainly didn't expect it, but just couldn't help themselves because they are such great hosts - it's just what they do.
Without going into details there was another occasion, on our last night, where Lois and Jon showed great hospitality to us that was totally unexpected and very much appreciated. Sure this is Lois and Jon's business but it's also their passion and it really shows. They've spent years building this business and continue working hard to keep the standards high.
Over the course of 14 nights we visited 7 different accommodations - all of which have had a review - some were very good. This was the stand out top of the list for us, though, and the only one where I wouldn't hesitate to give them 5 out of 5.
There is absolutely no doubt in our minds that we will return to Restful Nest when we next visit Yosemite - in some respects it will be one of the reasons WHY we next visit.
Thanks Lois and Jon, you made a great holiday even better
On arrival at the Restful Nest, we were welcomed by the owners Lois and Jon. Although they are not the youngest of age, they still are young at heart and make you feel at home right away. The room we had was spacious, clean and well kept, a good bed and a good shower.
When referred to the Certificate of Excellence, Lois glows with pride. If there were Michelin stars to be given for a breakfast, Lois and Jon would get all 3 stars in one go. Lois gets up early in the morning to prepare everything fresh. The table is nicely set, with luxury tableware. Guest are invited for breakfast by the bell 15 minutes before the show starts. A parade of fresh fruit, muffins, freshly baked bread, bacon strips, eggs or omelets, yoghurt, fresh juices and tea and coffee follow.
You must bring a good appetite, and, you must stand strong as Lois and Jon can be a bit forceful to eat some more, or at least empty your plate. With this breakfast you are assured to be hiking in Yosemite without craving for a snack. But if you do, they have made you a delicious healthy survival pack, with all the goodies that were left after breakfast.
We were hesitant to visit the Restful Nest because the smoke in Yosemite caused by the rim fire, but I am glad we did as the owners did not only open their house, but also their hearts to their guests. That in itself was worth the travel.
We opted for the Restful Nest after a recommendation. Although we are strictly Hotel people we went with the recommendation. I am so glad we did as this 3 day stay was the most enjoyable and memorable part of our 16 day tour around California.
Lois and Jean are an incredible couple who make you feel like family from the outset. Their place is tranquil and beautiful with a natural calming atmosphere. We travelled with our 19 year old daughter and she loved the experience. We saw deer, foxes and many humming birds in the area immediately around the house and found you could lose hours watching these in their natural environment.
Lois's breakfast is not for the faint hearted as it a banquet fit for a king. The food is amazing and different every morning. We found that this breakfast would result in us not needing anything else until our evening meal. We did however manage to fit in the small packed lunch that Jean would put together every day.
Jean helped our planning for Yosemite and imparted some very helpful local knowledge that helped us get the most from our days visiting.
All in all I cannot recommend this place highly enough and don't worry if you don't usually do B&B, this is an amazing experience with a very sweet and caring couple. Thanks for everything.
