Tables were empty but for some reason it. Took awhile to be seated. Once we had our menus and had ordered, we were nearly an hour before our food came up. Not sure what happened - several parties came in after us and were served before us. A number of carry-outs were served before us. We would have walked out but being unfamiliar with the area and the late hour didn't know where else to go.

Our waitress, the only one for the entire restaurant, sensed our unhappiness and placated us by discounting our entire dinner and threw in our choice of dessert without us asking for it.

Popular spot with the locals. Gonna chalk the s-l-o-w service up to a fluke. Fortunately, the food was good, especially the desserts.

After moving to Mariposa in 2016, my wife and I looked around for a good, solid diner or cafe for some breakfasts, and especially lunches. Steve's more than fits the bill. They offer a good value, with solid food quality, along with the interesting decor.

Steve's is a country/mountain cafe with a loyal local following. The owner, Steve. is also recognized for his local charitable work. The sandwiches, soups, ands salads are good, the burgers tend to be great.

The short drive from Mariposa on Highway 49 South toward Oakhurst is definitely worth the few minutes it takes. There's a good reason for the large local following for this informal eatery. Great food and generous portions at reasonable prices! Whether it's a cowboy breakfast, sportsman lunch or family dinner, you will leave happy, and full! Service is quick and friendly, even when they are busy. The atmosphere is rustic western with comfortable seating. My favorite is the chili size for lunch. But the Western Cheesebuger with onion rings is a close second. Home made soups are offered daily, better than Mom's.

We ordered the lobster tail and crab legs which came with a perfectly cooked baked potato and asparagus, delicious! The lobster tail was a good size as were the crab legs and very fresh indeed. Really nice owner and wait staff. A pleasant experience all around.
