“An Average Place to Stay”

The room was clean; but that was about it. The check in was friendly, but slow. The included breakfast was mediocre. The Internet service was about as good as dial up service. It's generally at least an hour's drive to Yosemite from this location; but there are not too many other places that are closer, other than those within the park itself.

This motel is seemingly purely functional - check in the guests and then check them out. Very impersonal. Room was not ready at stated time and was unavailable until 1/2 hour later. No assistance with luggage, no elevator and only one (hidden) luggage trolley. So if disabled or unable to handle your luggage, ensure you ask for a room on the 1st or 2nd floor as access to rooms on 3rd floor require the use of a staircase. A non-functioning sink plunger in the wash basin was supposed to have been fixed by maintenance, and it was worse than when we had reported it faulty 24 hours later. We never managed to get the TV remote control to work. Why not put instructions on its operation together with the channel guide? Why is body wash/shampoo not provided? The hot breakfast was boring - every morning it was either round omelettes and sausage meat patties, or waffles. Surely something else could be offered in order to 'ring the changes'? On the plus side, the room was nicely decorated, there was plenty of storage space, the bed was comfortable and the provision of TWO luggage trestles was a bonus. Very disappointing and not up to BW + standard.

was pretty good, did not spend to much time there, we went to the national park early in morning and came back at end of day, a good place to rest your head. The drive to the park is 45 mins away. The town was good easy 3 minute walk, food resturants and a couple places to have a adult beverage without driving was a good thing.

Location is a critical part of selecting a hotel. If you really want to see Yosemite and will spend more than one day in the park the only place to stay is in the park. While it is difficult to get a room in the park, if you cannot, delay your trip until you can. This hotel is one hour from Yosemite valley. We drove it 4 times and it took at least an hour each time. For that matter do not stay in Groveland either, as it is also an hour away on a much harder to drive road than 140! El Portal has some places to stay and you are about 30 min. from Yosemite Valley, but there is almost nothing to do in El Portal.

I booked on Best Western website. As a Diamond Card holder I asked for an upgrade. I was told, you already have an upgraded room. I booked the only level room available online. I heard walk-ins and people on the phone being quoted a rate $20 more than I was paying. When I asked at the desk for the lower rate I was told "the owner fiddles with the rates on-line" (???) and there was nothing they could do. We definitely overpaid. Be warned before you book.

Because I was a BW Diamond guest, they gave me a "Gift Bag." Junk bag would have been a better description. It included one bottle of water, some stale health bars, a few samples of hair products and some about to expire allergy pills. It was like they grabbed any samples they had and threw them in the bag. A nice idea very poorly executed.

Be aware that bus tours use this hotel. The lobby area gets very crowded at check-in time. The breakfast room can also be very busy. The breakfast is mediocre at best. The room is not well designed and people often backup along the buffet line. How well stocked the line is depends on who is taking care of it on any day.

The hotel and rooms have been accurately described by others. The most important consideration you have to make is location and Mariposa is not convenient for multiple day visits to Yosemite.

This hotel was beautiful. The room was large clean and the decor was great. The breakfast was hot and there was plenty of food. The hotel was pet friendly with a fee. Located close to Yosemite making it very easy to get on the road.

We were looking for a hotel with close access to Yosemite. This hotel is approximately an hour away. It is located in the cute Town of Mariposa. The room was modern and clean. We were on the upper floor in for a quiet location which worked great for us. However, be aware that there is no elevator and it is a long stairway if you are taking much luggage up the stairs. The staff was very friendly and offered helpful information on the area. Comfy bed and pillows for a good night rest.

Stayed here since it is located close to Yosemite. The location was great, but for what we paid for the room I expected it to be much nicer. Even though it appears the hotel has obviously been updated, (two years ago according to the staff) the decor and bedding is old and worn. However the room was clean and did not smell musty. At check in I asked for the current internet rate, but no credit was given. The free breakfast was acceptable, but have had much better for the price.

Room Tip: As a stop before arriving in Yosemite this is a good location. The hotel is old and needs to be upda...
