Ok, so this was our first motel experience and, at $77 including tax, it's hardly breaking the bank but price isn't everything.
First the plus points - the place was very clean and the innkeeper could not have been more helpful. He and his wife are a distinct asset to the place - they offered good advice and loaned us a bottle-opener (their own) as we didn't travel with one.
My main issue with the accommodation was the construction of the place itself.
We had connecting doors between our room and one next door - I don't know if they are all like that but our room had this feature. That meant that we could basically hear every word, yawn etc. of the couple next door. We were grateful that the couple appeared as keen to get to sleep as we were so there was no chat keeping us awake or any other night-time activity.
We left the air-conditioning off because when it switched itself on it was ridiculously loud - the fan simply blasting away. As it's later in the year the temperature cooled enough during the night so we weren't kept awake by heat which was just as well.
However, when some late night drinking finished around 12:30am we were treated to some late night banter between a couple of chaps and their partners. That, thankfully, lasted only half an hour and we eventually got back to sleep.
I guess there's not a lot that can be done about the lack of soundproofing but it's basically put us off motels generally - particuarly as this gets such good reviews from others...
Which leaves the question - what price for a good night's sleep?
