“A lovely surprise”
Reviewed 4 January 2014

Found this place through a quick search on the internet while traveling through the area. Liked the easy to navigate website. Stayed in a room with a spa tub. Very clean, romantic and spacious. Owners were friendly, knowledgeable and fun to talk to. Dinner was extra but well worth it. Breakfast, included, was just as delicious. Many things were made from scratch. Very yummy.

The hotel is decorated for Christmas right now. Beautiful historic building. Variety of rooms ranging from relatively basic to very large rooms with spa tubs. Nicely decorated. Friendly owner. A glass of wine and hors d'oeuvre given around 4:00 in the afternoon is conducive to sitting in front of the fire, playing scrabble or Chinese checkers and chatting with other guests. The restaurant is quite good. The butternut squash ravioli is particularly delish. And the Grand Marnier french toast in the included breakfast is WOW - also bacon, scones, fruit. Coffee is a little weak, that that is my only complaint. McCloud offers beautiful hikes along the river with waterfalls. Very relaxing weekend for this time of year.

We spent a lovely Thanksgiving weekend at the McCloud Hotel. We had stayed here one night this summer and were so impressed that we booked for Thanksgiving, our first time not at home. We were made to feel at home by the graciousness of our hosts Nancy and Robert. The dinners and breakfasts were outstanding. It's a few minutes drive from Mt. Shasta and from beautiful hiking along the McCloud River. A relaxing, comfortable, delicious, weekend retreat. Couldn't be better.

McCloud is a small, historic town close to Mt. Shasta and a great place to stay when visiting magnificent Mt. Shasta. The hotel is well located for the area and beautifully restored. The rooms are uniquely decorated and the lobby very welcoming. The owners are a delight; we so enjoyed their company over big delicious breakfasts - included - and a superb dinner (not served every night and usually booked with the guests.) Nancy knows how to make guests very comfortable and many of us wound up having great conversations over meals. One night, a Celtic music group rehearsed for a concert they were giving while we ate dinner - what a treat! McCloud is on scenic Highway 89. Take the road leading to the ski area off of 89 (between Rte 5 and McCloud) for spectacular views of Shasta. Don't miss the McCloud Falls and do hike to all 3 falls - each is special. Go to Castle Crags Park for great views of the Crags and Shasta. If you drive to Shasta from Weaverville, do take Highway 3 past Trinity Lake for an unforgettable mountain journey and first glimpse of Shasta from the West - what a sight as the sun is gleaming off the snow covered slopes.

Room Tip: Definitely choose the second floor. The first floor may be busy and a little noisy if the hotel is...

It's frankly been a while since a friend and I stayed one night in route to the PNW. We'd been driving all day from Gardnerville, NV, not in a rush, but taking the backroads as usual to enjoy the scenery. Neither of us had been to McCloud so near dusk we drove around and found this charming old hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful, a very comfortable room on the main floor. We saw others dining on the patio and joined them for a pleasant dinner under the vine covered Arbor Trellis. Breakfast was just across the hall and was quite unique and delicious.
Upon leaving, I promised myself to write a positive advisory. It's now about 7 months later but just last week, again driving through the beautiful Pine forests on the way to the Coast, when nearby I was reminded of that restful night at McCloud, and finally wrote my encouragements about this gem.

Room Tip: Despite the suggestions listed, I have no preferences nor objections.

This is a nice old hotel, although I think the price is a bit high frankly. Overall though, the rooms were spacious and comfortable enough. My room downstairs did get a lot of noise from the lobby and breakfast room, so I would recommend an upstairs room. Good location for exploring the McCloud area.

This hotel, situated in an historic building, reflects the charm of McCloud and peaceful experience of the surrounding forest. Our room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. We regretted having only a one night stay. The breakfast was fantastic and healthy. The owners are attentive and friendly, and made us feel quite welcome. We would definitely stay at the McCloud Hotel again.
