“Safe waves - Icy cold water - Barking Sands”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 July 2013

The Jug Handle beach is KID-FRIENDLY, sparsely visited, with an inlet well stocked with dry sand that "barks" as you walk barefoot. The water is safe and has a submerged sandbar that allowed being out a hundred feet or more but still only up to your waist. Warning, the water is icy cold and a wet suit is advised. Even so, my grankids swam and body surfed on that sand bar for a couple hours until their lips turned purple. I had to almost drag them away from their fun just to warm them up. "But it is (chatter shiver chatter) so much (chatter chatter shiver) fun!"

“Ecological Staircase”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 July 2013

The first half of the self-guided walk was very interesting, starting at the bluffs and ending (for us) with the riparian environment. We decided to stop there as we were not interested in the section filled with invasive species and had already visited the Pygmy Forest in VanDamme State Park. The trail was well-interpreted for the most part. We really liked the eerie krummholz formation. Parts of the trail were not very well-maintained, but it was generally easy-going. There is a stairway trail to the beach as well. Free.

“What a find!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2013

A few steps down a walkway to a wonderful small beach. It sits in a small cove and the view is inspiring. A very small beach but worth some real time to enjoy. then take a stroll thru the meadow on top and out to the cliffs. Another very pretty view. One of our new favorite places.

“Stairway to heaven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2013

this small intimate beach is on of my favorite spots along the PCH. A short walk and decent down some steep well traveled steps and you are on a very private feeling beach with a beautiful bridge to your back and the ocean stretching out in front of you. Add a few locals stopping to enjoy the sunset with you while strumming their guitar and it's a sunset moment to remember.

“Free beauty”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2013

Neat cove for hanging out at the beach. We did not do the full hike into the back area for the full effect because we ran out of time but the short coastal cliff views and the little cove are really nice and you don't have to pay an entrance fee.
