Each separate cottage is unique and each one has their own charm. If they aren't full, they will be glad to show you some of the other units. We have stayed twice in the past twenty years and not much has changed but it's very clean and even though it seems somewhat dated, you'll enjoy the tranquil overall feeling of staying here. It's about two miles from the heart of Mendocino Village. Nice people run the place and were most helpful with suggestions.

We missed the left turn into Mendocino, were looking for a place for the night, and lo and behold, ahead we saw the sign for Blackberry Inn. "Well, let's take a look." First of all I am a BIg Time old Western fan, so immediately LOVED the 1800's town with every room a different type business. The outside was clean, the individual "businesses" well-kept. So I let my hubby decide. The minute I walked into the Silver Dollar I was at home. The layout is perfect, the two window seats on either side of the door, the large window across the room overlooking the huge lawn and out into the Pacific, the sofa, the sink with plenty of room for cosmetic and gentleman's cases, a desk, wardrobe, plenty of space for suitcases, TV, fridge, microwave. Yes, other rooms offer about the same, but his this one was very inviting and homey and said very loudly and clearly, "STAY" and we did, for another night. We woke up the next morning and were mourning the fact that we didn't want to leave, so then and there decided to stay another day. So the rest of the trip, we were lamenting that we could not find another Blackberry Inn. Sigh. Even though we are 900 miles from Mendocino, we are seriously thinking of vacationing there again just to stay at the Blackberry. I have traveled every state and 35 foreign countries - Even though BB Inn is not luxurious, it is at the top of my list of favorite places I have ever stayed. Thank you for making it so enjoyable and lingering in our minds and hearts.

Room Tip: I can't imagine any room there not being fun and different and enjoyable. We didn't know ab...

A long overdue review - we stayed at the Blackberry Inn for the first time a couple of years ago, and it was a charming experience the first time we walked through the door (we reserved the "Livery" room). What really set this place apart for us was the fact that about half of the rooms have a wood-burning fireplace or stove. Where else can you rent a nicely appointed room, have a peaceful view out towards the ocean (not quite ocean-front views, but still very nice), and cozy up to a nice warm fire?

Actually, I take that back - what really sets this place apart for us are the caretakers; Lou and Melissa. During our first trip, our room actually an issue with the stovepipe not drawing correctly, and our room got smokey. We let Lou and Melissa know, and they immediately sincerely apologized, and moved us to a new room. Not just any new room though - they offered Belle's Place which is one of their top-rooms. In the end, we wound up moving into the General Merchandise room - a great one in of itself, and the fireplace worked flawlessly - but we were really blown away by the wonderful gesture of Lou and Melissa. These folks really care about the customers who stay there. While switching rooms for customers is not uncommon for hotels when there's an issue - to offer the top-rate room is really going out of their way for the customer.

Fast forward two years from that visit, and my wife and I visited again. Again, we were so looking forward to a peaceful getaway in Mendocino, and thought of cozying up to a warm fire on a rainy Nor Cal weekend. It was great to find Lou and Melissa still there, and they actually remembered us from the last time we were there. The stay this time around was just as wonderful as the last time. The room was clean, cozy and comfortable; we had plenty of wood to enjoy in the fireplace, we had a back "patio" this time around and enjoyed the morning sun out there while having our coffee's (and enjoying their goodies basket).

In a nutshell, it's a great homey-feeling place to stay. While not in downtown Mendocino, it's right across US-1 from town. Rooms are large, clean and comfortable. Rooms with fireplaces are awesome! And it's run by staff who really care about their customers and really go out of their way to make sure your stay is comfortable. We'll be back for sure.

Room Tip: Get one of the rooms with a Fireplace/Stove!

My husband and I have stayed here at least 3 separate times in the past few years. It is an older establishment, but well kept. It is always clean, and everything is always in working order. The staff is friendly and helpful. The prices are very reasonable, and they have rooms for all budgets. The decor is a bit eclectic, but charming...kinda like grandmas house, comfortable. The goodie basket is always a welcome addition for the evening or breakfast. Every room has a mini fridge, microwave, and small coffee pot. It isn't in town, but is very close, just a couple of minutes drive to town. Belles place is our favorite room, but this time we stayed in the School house which was still very accommodating. We will definitely consider this inn any time we visit the area.

Room Tip: Belles place has a small kitchenette.

Our family (3 adults, one teenager, and a small dog) enjoyed two nights here on our first visit. Quiet and convenient location, comfortable bed, nice views, dog friendly, good service. and we appreciated the complimentary champagne. The grounds are well kept, but beware of dog poop in the open field!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Millinery room, which had all of the advertised amenities, including a Jacuzzi tub...

We had a wonderful stay here over Christmas. It is very affordable yet offered oceans views with two rocking chairs and a great wood burning fireplace. It is close to downtown Mendocino yet is very private. The grounds are beautiful and, even though we thought the Hollywood theme might be "hookey," in fact it added to the charm. Wonderful home baked goodies and staff went out of their way to make the holiday special, including providing wine and Christmas treats. The staff even offered ( on Christmas Day no less) to drive us to and from our Christmas dinner reservation at the times we wanted for no charge! We highly recommend the Blackberry Inn for an affordable yet very pleasant, cozy stay in Mendocino!

Our first time to visit Mendocino and this property is well kept, very clean, loved the old west theme. Lou and Melissa were very helpful and made our stay truly enjoyable our daughter did not want to leave. The complementary wine and the bake goodies are a really nice touch. We will definitely be back.
