“Wonderful welcome late at night”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

We were let down with our hotel accommodation and were faced with trying to secure a room. We tried numerous hotels with either no availability or over our budget.

It was after 10pm and we had given up hope of staying in Mendocino and decided to head out to Fort Bragg which we were reluctant to do. We then saw the sign for the Blackberry Inn and drove up to the Reception. It was closed but we rang the bell and were met by a charming couple. Fortunately there was room at the Inn.

We were given a nice welcome basket with a small bottle of wine. Our room was very clean and spacious with a wood burner. It had a really funky feel and we liked it.

The bed was so comfortable and we slept very well indeed. The next morning we met a lady called Jawndra (sorry for the spelling). Again, we received great service. A friendly smile and a lot of conversation.

Blackberry Inn is literally just on the outskirts of town and is within walking distance. It is very convenient and we would recommend this place in a heartbeat.

The friendly service far surpassed the attitude we encountered from 5 accommodations we had tried earlier in the evening. Interestingly, when we asked if they could recommend an alternative hotel, none mentioned the Blackberry Inn.

You will not be disappointed with the Blackberry Inn. A very content Brit and American

We stayed at the BlackBerry Inn while in Mendocino for our good friends wedding and had a fantastic time at the Inn. ... Melissa is guest service at it's finest! The rest of the staff was great as well, but Melissa shines like a star! Our dog Scooby even felt welcome by their hospitality! Looking forward to staying there again and again! Great value ,Great accommodations, and Great Staff that was very helpful with all our needs!

Just happened on this quiet place 5 minutes above center of town of Mendocino. Small and quiet. Very clean, comfy beds and helpful staff. View of the ocean. Perfect get away. Includes refrigerator, flat screen TV, WiFi, Microwave, rocking chairs, home-baked cookies and muffins, fresh fruit . Ask staff to help you plan your tour of the area. Staff gave great tips and free entrance tickets to Mendoncino Botanical Gardens, very worth it.

Across the highway from town of Mendocino, but just 3-5 minutes away. Could walk, but not so safe.

Room Tip: Some rooms are larger than others with or without Jacuzzi and fire place.

We read nice tripadvisor reviews so gave it a shot last minute and were very pleasantly surprised. The receptionist who answered the phone was very helpful and was able to offer last-minute daily specials. The hotel rooms are very quaint, and each room has an independent outdoor entry/exit. Our room had a large patio that offered peekaboo views of the ocean and an enormous jacuzzi tub. Some of the furniture was outdated but it was very cozy. Very spacious master/bathroom area. Firewood was readily available (even at night) in a box near the reception. We stayed Easter weekend and a nice basket of Easter candy was in our room - a nice surprise!

Main Pro: Great value. B&B's in Mendocino can be expensive for what they are. This hotel is very cozy and quaint -- not 5* luxury, but a cute B&B that is not price-inflated like some of the Victorians in town that seem more cramped and outdated. Very private and still close to everything. Plus this place has its own fireplace and you can build your own fire and pat yourself on the back for that.

Main Con: Not a full-on ocean view, but a peekaboo view (I think we had one of the ocean-facing rooms - not sure if there was better but doesn't seem to be). If you want to stay directly in front of the ocean, stay on the other side of the highway. However, if you want to save $100-150/night by seeing it from afar (you can still hear it from the room we stayed in), this does the trick.

TIPS: The hotel is not in the town of Mendocino, but it is a 2 minute or so drive, and very close to many of the beautiful parks in the area. The receptionist said the town of Mendocino was not walkable, but it seemed if you were very careful crossing the street, you could walk down in about 10 minutes (there are no barriers or anything, it is a "busy" and main thoroughfare for driving up the coast - busy in Mendocino traffic terms, not like crossing a multilane highway). However to be on the safe side maybe driving is better.

Our room was large, clean, and comfortable. We had a microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker, and all of the usual amenities. There is no breakfast, but there were fresh cookies and muffins. The location is beautiful and convenient to Mendocino (although not within walking distance for most people) and Fort Bragg. We liked the Old West theme, which was well-done but not excessive. The friendly staff accommodated our request for a late check-out, which was very helpful to us. My sister-in-law, in a different room, had a great jacuzzi tub with a spectacular view to the ocean. If it matters to you, be aware that the wifi is weak and slow, and cell phone service isn't strong here either.

Our family spent Easter weekend in this quiet place. Very nicely landscaped , cozy cottages with ocean view in beautiful Mendocino forest. As soon as we got there we had our complementary bottle of shampagne and wine. Although they don't serve breakfast , but you get baked goodies , coffee, tea and fruits every morning . Easter morning we had little basket of chocolates . Beds were very comfortable and linens /towels were very clean. Location is excellent, quiet and close to city. We loved the place!

Room Tip: All rooms are equally good.
