“Adorable and Affordable Place to Stay in Mendocino”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

The Blackberry Inn is located on the east side of Highway 1 within the town of Mendocino. It has been redone as a charming little western town. Each room's exterior has a different name like Barber Shop, Saloon, Millenary Shop, etc. Really cute.

The owners/managers are lovely people. Very very warm and friendly. They have fruit and coffee available in the lobby and were very gracious about a late check-out (particularly when our late check-out became later). They also gave us a small bottle of wine on arrival, which was unexpected.

Mendocino, in high season, is quite expensive - even during mid-week the least expensive room in town is about $200. The Blackberry Inn was $160 per night (he gave us a discount off the usual $180 rate). Our room was very old-fashioned and cute, with much attention paid to detail. Old-fashioned wallpaper, light fixtures. Small HD TV. Refrigerator. The beds were beyond comfortable.

However, it is an older place that has been renovated. My only complaint was the bathroom didn't have a fan. The room was quite spacious and overall very clean. Great coffee and nice touches like brownies and blueberry pound cake. It was suppose to be an "ocean view" room, however, the ocean view was quite small and as we were on the other side of Hwy 1, not too impressive. However, it was a great value for the money.

Nice, friendly, family-type place to stay!

Room Tip: Some of the rooms have access to a patio behind the rooms. I'd go for one of those.

Aside from very stained and dirty carpets in our Barber Shop room, we enjoyed this quaint inn on the mountain side of the highway. Friendly staff welcomed us when we checked in, and in our room there was a basket of baked goods including two cookies and two tiny loaves of delicious lemon-blueberry bread. Only problem was there were three of us sharing two queen beds, so not enough food to go around for all occupants, even though we made the reservation for 3 in advance. Coffee/teamaker and supplies and small fridge were also in the small room. This property is about 30 years old and was designed as a western town, so each room has its own persona. If you cannot stay in Mendocino town, this is a very close alternative...as it's only about a 5-minute drive to shops and restaurants. The inn is far enough away from the main highway that road noise was not a problem. And we easily parked right in front of our room. Aside from a carpet that really needs replacing, the room was clean and felt very homey with cozy throw blankets on the two rocking chairs. The sink is opposite the two beds and the shower/tub and toilet is enclosed. There was also a tv and armoir. If you are traveling down the Mendocino coast, this inn is a bit tired, but still a good place to stop. And the staff is very friendly. We had a wonderful dinner at Mendocino Cafe and then enjoyed the live music and dessert at the Irish pub next to the grocery store in town. Great book store in town, too, and don't miss the walks around the headlands. The cliffs are amazing and the ocean scenery cannot be beat. If you like bird watching, bring your binoculars, too.

Room Tip: The Barber Shop Room has two queens. Carpet needs cleaning or replacing. Loved the rocking chairs an...

I was traveling down the California coast with my children for the first time. We had no arranged plans and booked a room an hour before arriving, without any recommendations. We were extremely surprised when we arrived. The place is very nice has a very original decoration. The owner was very very kind and the room impeccable. Good side, sea view and very comfortable. The bathroom clean and the commodities are of high quality . I loved this place and I want to comeback soon.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view

Stayed here for two nights with my good friend while visiting Mendocino ... What an AMAZING find - we felt so lucky to have this place - great pricing, great service, very quaint, very cute, super clean rooms, awesome fireplace, about as peaceful as it gets, and so close to Mendocino's Main Street and downtown, that we got food from the market and then just ate in our room so we could enjoy the room more. We even roasted marshmallows and made smores! :) Yeah for the Blackberry Inn!!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Assayer room ... large bed, bathroom was fine, sink area was fine, closet for cloth...

What a sweet spot. Sits on hill near ocean. Theme is an old west town. Each room is named - Sheriff, Bank, Barber Shop. Ours was the Millenary -hat shop. The grounds have beautiful flowers everywhere. Quiet and serene. Room was very cute with great wing chairs in front of the fireplace. Very romantic. Only downfall was bed a bit too hard for our taste and the bathroom, while beautiful, needs a bit more space in the shower and potty area. But overall a wonderful place located just a short distance from Mendocino.

A friend of mine recommended the place. It's not located in the downtown area. Very secluded and relaxing. Quite gem. Wonderful couple runs the place. Had view of ocean from our room. Would recommend it. Nice swing in front to enjoy the sunset.

Room Tip: We liked the hot tub in the Sheriffs room.

We were let down with our hotel accommodation and were faced with trying to secure a room. We tried numerous hotels with either no availability or over our budget.

It was after 10pm and we had given up hope of staying in Mendocino and decided to head out to Fort Bragg which we were reluctant to do. We then saw the sign for the Blackberry Inn and drove up to the Reception. It was closed but we rang the bell and were met by a charming couple. Fortunately there was room at the Inn.

We were given a nice welcome basket with a small bottle of wine. Our room was very clean and spacious with a wood burner. It had a really funky feel and we liked it.

The bed was so comfortable and we slept very well indeed. The next morning we met a lady called Jawndra (sorry for the spelling). Again, we received great service. A friendly smile and a lot of conversation.

Blackberry Inn is literally just on the outskirts of town and is within walking distance. It is very convenient and we would recommend this place in a heartbeat.

The friendly service far surpassed the attitude we encountered from 5 accommodations we had tried earlier in the evening. Interestingly, when we asked if they could recommend an alternative hotel, none mentioned the Blackberry Inn.

You will not be disappointed with the Blackberry Inn. A very content Brit and American
