“We Love The Blackberry Inn!!!”
Reviewed 29 May 2006

My wife and I go to Mendocino at least twice per year, and we almost always stay at the Blackberry Inn. It is just outside of Mendocino proper, and it is very picturesque, quaint, reasonably priced, quiet, and the 'cottages' are all individual and have their own character. The staff is great. The 'theme' is that of a little Western town. We have met people there who have been coming back for decades!
It is by far our favourite place. As an extra treat, the coffee and 'snacks' provided in the room are second to none. Homemade, and the coffee is gourmet from small farms.
This place, including the rooms, is spotless. Maid service is simply superb.
We spend quite a bit of time travelling all over, and this is the finest.

I chose the Blackberry Inn from the AAA guidebook for two reasons.....It listed a whirlpool bath, and is one of the few locations in Mendocino that does not list a 2-night minimum stay for weekends as a requirement (they do prefer it, but don't enforce it if a room is available)....When I called, I was told the Sheriff room was available, which had a kingsize bed, whirlpool bath, fireplace, and ocean view.....I took it! Then I was asked if I had seen the website.....no, I hadn't......I looked up the room and said "uh oh" wondering if it would be too cutesy for my male travelling companion....As it turned out, he loved the room as much as I did.....I commented that I felt more like we were in someone's guest quarters than a motel and he agreed......I appreciated the little touches....the fruit and muffin basket in the room, the fact that a hair dryer was available, but was put away in the drawer vs. connected to the outlet, the extra large towels, the variety of soaps and more! Even the in-room coffee had a homey feel.....instead of buying generic pre-packaged coffee/filters, there were individually-wrapped filters with gourmet coffee measured into ziploc bags...as well as tea and hot cocoa packets.....The room was spotless, and everything was in working condition. The grounds were peaceful, and the (partial) ocean view was exactly as shown on the website.....I especially appreciated that the heater in the room was on when we arrived, since the trip up was on the back of a motorcycle in chilly, coastal weather. In short, I loved it and would love to go back again!

On a whim we left a day early for a trip to the north coast. We arrived late in Mendocino without a hotel reservation. There were plenty of choices but we decided to try the Blackberry Inn. We arrived after 9:00 PM on a Saturday. The office was still open. The friendly Inn Keeper, Jonica, was very helpful and efficient. He quickly finished the necessary paperwork and handed us the key to our room and a basket of fruit and other goodies which included homemade bannana nut bread and peanut butter cookies (Delicious).

The Inn is done in a western theme with each room a different "store front" - very cute. Our room was the "Boarding House". Only $105.00 plus tax. The room had a comfortable king size bed, a fireplace, tub/shower, and was decorated in a country theme. Every thing was very clean. There was instant hot water in the sink and shower. There were also helpful notes in the room giving detailed instructions about the fireplace, phone use, coffee maker, etc.

We highly recommend this Inn.

The Blackberry Inn was a pleasant surprise for us. We did not have reservations for any place in Mendocino and several inns recommended the Blackberry Inn. So we tried it out, and we are glad we did! Our kids liked the fun Western motif the Blackberry Inn has. It is set in very quiet residental area, with partial views of the ocean. There is green grass everywhere. Imagine our surprise when we saw a wild turkey strutting across the large lawn from our window. There are also deer milling about. They offer a simple basket of fruit and baked goods for morning breakfast. The innkeepers were very friendly and accommodating. Thanks for the wonderful stay!

The Blackberry Inn is very quaint; we stayed in the Land Office, which was extremely large and comfortable with TV, 2 queen beds, vanity area and bathtub/shower. Although it is not downtown in Mendocino Village, it was very accessible, and the price was good at $130/night. The office provides menus for local restaurants: recommend the lounge menu in Mendocino Hotel. Do not go to Moosse's restaurant: staff is snooty and portions are extremely small. Patterson's Pub provides excellent entrees like fish and chips, ribs or burgers at reasonable prices. The downtown businesses close up by 6pm, so there is not much to do. Little River Inn has excellent breakfast and service. Make an appointment to see the Kwai Tai Temple; you won't regret it.

We had a very nice stay here. Quiet, 3 minutes from downtown Mendocino. The hokey western facades are saved by gardens and flowers. The rooms are nicely furnished, and their website accurately shows both the individual rooms and their views. You also get fruit and home-baked goodies for a light breakfast. The place is family run, and they are nice to deal with. The rates are very reasonable for Mendocino.

For a quiet, comfortable, spacious room at a reasonable price, try Blackberry Inn just off Highway One in Mendocino. Ours had a view of the ocean, and when we awoke early in the morning, there were six deer grazing outside of our window. We highly recommend it.
