“Overlooking the Pacific”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 October 2013

I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this lovely inn. Our room was clean, cozy with all the thoughtful amenities including a bottle of wine, fireplace, and fluffy robes. We stayed in Cottage 3 which saved us some money and the only reason it was discounted is because you had to step out onto the porch to see the ocean instead of seeing it from your room. The breakfasts were delicious - something for everyone - and the staff was very friendly and accommodating - they were able to get us last minute reservations at a restaurant. And speaking of restaurants, we enjoyed the Cafe Mendocino and Cafe Beaujolais. I would highly recommend this inn.

Room Tip: Cottage 3 will save you some money without sacrificing any quality.

Thank you for the most 'positive' review. As a guest coming from the opposite ocean we appreciated your generous comments on our property and location. Yes, Cottage #3 is our most popular lower priced accommodation but as you said your room is well appointed and the view from the deck is as fantastic as anywhere else on the property.

The Sea Rock Inn was especially pleasant for us. We stayed in a cottage and loved the coziness of the fireplace, pine paneling and wonderful comforter!! The breakfast was ample and always included something I'd never make at home. The only thing that might discourage some people is that it is not in town. We rather enjoyed that aspect plus we enjoyed the walk into Mendocino.

From the mountains to the ocean, our Colorado guest finds solace at the Sea Rock. Our location just on the north edge of town allows our guests to feel that they are a world away from civilization.
I'm glad you found your stay with us 'pleasant' which implies comfortable and quiet. Thank you for your kind review and 5 Star rating.

First off, the location is amazing -- RIGHT on the Pacific, with stunning views from the breakfast tables, and from some of the rooms, including Cottage 4, which we stayed in. Room was well made, and has some good personal touches from the cleaning staff.

Rooms are adequate; cute, good quality beds, but a bit lacking flavor / personality. The gas fireplace heating is nice, as are the iPhone 5 docks in the rooms.

The breakfast is great; one of the better I've had at a B&B. There's a baked egg and stuff main course option (one day was egg bacon veggie frittata, one was zucchini carrot egg cake things), a pastry option (single-serving apple pie things one day, cinnamon rolls the other), plus a yogurt parfait with fresh fruit, more fresh fruit, tea, juice, coffee, granola, and more. There's also pod coffee machines in the rooms.

The staff was fine, and had great hotel-created handouts of "things to do in the area" but seemed somewhat disinterested in the job, and lacking some of personality I like in a B&B; probably because it was a cross between a motel and a true B&B; the owners either weren't there or didn't introduce themselves as such.

The hotel organized a massage package in their two small massage rooms for us; the masseuses they booked were very good, and the space they use for them is "fine".

Walking distance to the town of Mendocino (but a bit of a long walk), same distance to the Mendocino bluff trails. Couldn't ask for a better location.

Room Tip: Look at the map on their website; not all rooms have an equal view, and some are connected and some...

Thank you, Zachary, for your detailed review of your stay. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and found the location, breakfast, spa and ambiance of your cottage comfortable and personal. All of our accommodations do have excellent ocean views and our cottages and rooms are are all individual and private. Our staff is very interested in your Sea Rock stay experience and tries to go the extra mile in being the concierge. There is so much to see and do in the area that we hope our suggestions and recommendations hit on our guests specific expectations.

The Sea Rock inn may be one of the best small inns we have ever had the pleasure to visit. We stayed 3 nights in September this year and have no complaints to register at all. The staff was warm and helpful, the cabin was clean, comfortable and, best of all, beautiful and full of character - clever original woodwork throughout, well thought out and executed. Cozy and lovely. A pair of binoculars was provided, just to enhance the killer views of the cove in front of the inn. Adirondack chairs on the lawn in front of the cottage, or, if you prefer, the chairs on the little porch provide a great seat for the evening sunset. And the breakfast provided was one of the most inventive and satisfying we have seen at a small inn or B&B. Cottage 5, where we stayed faces straight down across the expansive lawn to the Pacific. You can't do any better in Mendocino (or anywhere, really)!
Keep up the good work, Sea Rock....

Room Tip: Cottage 5 was great, but cottages 4 and 6 look nicely situated as well.

A warm thank you to our East Coast guest who gave us such a rave review and a 5 Star rating to boot! We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us and took the time to tell us about it. As the season progresses closer to the California Grey Whale Migration, those binoculars come in handy to spot these gentle giants! We hope you had a safe trip home and will remember us the next time you come to the West Coast.

Real character, the friendliest possible service and an authentic rustic charm throughout. We were hugely impressed by the small touches in our cosy cottage, and the delicious home baking at breakfast.

The most exquisite sight right from your bed...the Pacific Ocean. Amazing sunsets! Wonderful friendly hosts, delicious breakfasts, wonderful places to sit and just relax and take in the views of the ocean have been created by the owners...this is the best Bed and Breakfast with a a full kitchen we have ever stayed in! Very clean, quite and comfortable! The bedding was amazing...in fact so amazing you won't want to get up! The location of SEA ROCK is so close to downtown Mendocino you can walk, and we did! It's a very short ride to Fort Bragg as well...I highly recommend SEA ROCK INN for anyone who wants to escape from daily life.....the beauty of the ocean and the sounds of the waves...paradise.

Room Tip: Room #1...with a full kitchen, called the "Family Suite"...right in front...nothing in the...

You didn't even have to mention the number of your accommodation to know that your description of waking up to the view placed you in one of our most popular cottages, #1. With the bed facing the ocean view, snuggly down feather bed mattresses and pillows who would want to get up?! The kitchen is a nice addition to this cottage as it affords the choice of eating out or dining in :) Thank you so much for your 5 Star review. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay!

Our friends from Toronto, my husband and I spent two nights at the Inn and were very impressed. We thought it was a new property because of it's clean, updated look with all of the amenities, but it appears we just never knew about it. We will be back. We stayed in two cottages that looked out at the ocean from their front porches. There was a great bottle of wine in our room when we arrived. The breakfasts were great, too. We would highly recommend this property.
