“Great place to stay and excellent food as well”
Reviewed 12 January 2012

My boyfriend and I stayed at the MacCallum House for 2 nights a few days before Christmas. We got a great deal through Groupon, and we weren't disappointed. We were in the Attic Suite (Room 6) in the main house, and it was really nice. There are 2 bedrooms (one with a queen bed and one with a full size bed). The bedrooms have tiny windows and not much light, but the sitting room has a window with a lovely view of the bay. There are 2 couches--one by the window, and one by the TV. There's also a fridge and microwave in the room and a "fake" wood stove that heats the room nicely. The jacuzzi tub is not much larger than a regular tub, but the bathroom itself is sizeable. The only bad part was that the bed wasn't the most comfortable and we could hear the garbage trucks in the morning.

We ate dinner at the Inn both nights, and the food was fantastic. You get tokens for $7 of credit per person per night for dinner. The only catch is that you can't combine your tokens. We had to use $14 one night and our other $14 the next night. You can use it for drinks or dessert though, if you want to eat dinner someplace else. For the included breakfast, you get to choose one of about 5 or 6 main dishes along with coffee, tea, juice, or a mimosa. I ordered a side of scrambled eggs with my pancakes and figured I'd be charged for that, but I wasn't.

The people at the Inn are really friendly, the service is excellent, and you get a "green credit" of about $10 if you don't have your towels and sheets replaced. The Inn is just a couple blocks up from the main street of Mendocino, so it's an easy walk to everything in town. All in all, an excellent stay!

Had a great time at The Mac House in Mendo. Room 10 aka The Carriage House, was large, very clean and had it's own private hot tub. Love the l'occitane products in the room.

Breakfast, that was included, was in the main house was delicious and service was great. We also had drinks at the bar the night before in the main house and they have a tasty and fun cocktail list.

It is located right in town, so there is easy walking access to everything.

My only small complaint was when we tried to check in at 2:30, the guy at the desk gave me a bit of a dismissive attitude and told me check-in was at 4:00 and the room would not be ready until then. Very minor...

Overall a great stay and I would stay again.

Also, fast and free WiFi, which seems to be rare in Mendocino and they have a large flat screen TV with cable in the room. It may sound crazy saying that in 2012, but I got the impression not all places have cable and WiFi.

I was a little nervous after reading some of The Reviews but We got a good rate and decided to give it a whirl and We had a nice stay. We stayed in The Abby Blair which was quiet and comfortable and We made good use of Our private outdoor hot tub. Breakfasts were good and We had a nice Christmas dinner here as well. There is a rustic and quirky charm to the place which We liked.

Room Tip: The Cottages or The Suites are the best choice

We made reservations for dinner our first night in Mendo. It was on a Thursday night, just before Christmas. We were seated right away, next to the fireplace. It was a really nice and cozy atmosphere. The food was excellent. The service was also great. After dinner, we stayed at the bar for a few more drinks.

We stayed at the MacCallum house suites for a winter holiday family gathering. The room was spacious with a huge flat screen t.v. and luxury bedding. The amenities were great. I especially enjoyed the all you could use bath products in large containers, and the giant whirlpool bath. Wifi was easy to access in the room and the carpets were very clean and plush. If you stay with a large group as we did,It's nice to congregate in the comfortable suite lobby that has an attached party room. A delicious hearty breakfast. Is included for overnight guests, and the eggs Benedict with Meyer lemon hollandaise sauce and Niman ranch ham is melt in your mouth delicious. The food is local organic and out of this world. The restaraunt is in the main building which was built in the late 1800's and it has been maintained beautifully. There is a huge lawn adjacent to the restaraunt where the kids ran around after breakfast. The staff were very friendly and welcoming to our family. It is a great place to recharge your batteries and get away to enjoy the fresh sea air and amazing ocean views.

from this company I was so shocked to see the MacCallum House in so low overall in Mendocino that I came to see who died and why Noah sold the Inn. The reasons for the mad and low reviews with not an exception are from those guests who never spoke to anyone about their issue. They just simmered with it. Now I have always found that in a non combative way the management willing to listen and address the patrons or visitors issues. You got a problem at the Mac House you were either dumb enough not to review the rooms on their site before booking or expected McDonalds in the dining room. A FIVE STAR ALL THE WAY!

Room Tip: Review their website as all are different!

We stayed here over Thanksgiving Weekend after signing up for a Living Social deal. Whether you do the coupon or not, the hotel offers you a free full-service breakfast, bottle of wine upon arrival and $14 worth of credit each night ($7 per person) to use in the bar or restaurant.

The Mac House is a charming late 1800's style B&B with different lodging options. We stayed in the Barn - room 18 was on the smaller, cozy side with a fireplace, mini fridge with snacks, full-sized 2-person bathtub with jets, bathrobes, etc. There was a community hot tub right down the stairs from us but it was closed for repairs during our stay. The place is very dog friendly. The carpets in our room were a little dirty, but we didn't mind, considering Mendocino can be a wet place, and it's easy to drag the dirt in with the dog and firewood. In this way it reminded me more of a cabin. We had an opportunity to peek into room 19 next door, and it was WAY bigger, with a sauna and huge windows overlooking the ocean. Next time we will try to score that room.

The inn-keeper Evan was really friendly and helpful, and went out of his way to offer my husband a storage space for his expensive stand-up paddle board. In fact, all the servers and staff were friendly and helpful, and we even met the owner Noah during our stay, who was also humble and nice. The restaurant & bar area rocks - nice wine & cocktails (including non-alcoholic cocktails, which I was grateful for, being currently pregnant). The cuisine focuses on organic, local foods - all good there. It's pricey but what can you expect? The full-service breakfasts in the morning were delicious (includes juice or mimosa and your choice from the menu). The service is a little slow but it's a nice chance to relax and enjoy the morning and ocean views.

On the hotel grounds there is a cute garden, and it is within a few blocks walking distance to all the shops/restaurants in town, and also a wonderful hike along the ocean cliff. We also had a massage at Mendocino Massage, a few doors down, which was outstanding.

Overall I highly recommend this - it's a great getaway for couples, families or friends, or if you just want to soak in the beauty of Mendocino on your own retreat. I would DEFINITELY return.

Room Tip: Room 19 looks huge with sauna, full bath and ocean view.
