My wife and I stayed here Jan. 7-10, 2012 in the free-standing, fully equipped "Tropical Cottage". Easy access directly from parking area. Located a 5 min. walk from the village, it is just 100 yds. across the headlands to the ocean, in a perfectly beautiful, quiet spot, with nice views through the windows. From here you can access the walking trails or bike around the headlands into the village.
The unit has a large open floor plan, with small, complete kitchen, sitting area with gas fireplace that also faces the bedroom area. The huge bathroom with jacuzzi tub and walk-in shower has its own gas fireplace! TV, WI-FI, CD, DVD etc., in case the location itself does not provide enough interest. We got a good "last minute" deal, made better by a 3 day stay rate in the off-season. There is also the purpose-built main building with several en-suite units, each with unique features. One of these might be a better choice if "the views" are critical.
My only usual critique, is the limited empty horizontal surfaces on which to put your stuff. But with all the amenities like the king bed, two leather couches, huge bathroom and everything in working order, this is a minor issue. We've stayed in many places in Mendocino over the years, and this one is the best. It is pricey, but try for deals in off-peak times. Mel, the off-site owner, is readily available.
