Owner description: OPEN 365 DAYS a YEAR -- THERE IS NO FEE -- Built between 1908 and 1909, and extensively restored, it is one of the most complete Lightstations in the U.S. and hosts visitors, vacation rentals, receptions and weddings, plus education programs for classes of local students. There is a parking area inside the gate off Point Cabrillo Drive, adjacent to the restored Kearn farmhouse with its public restroom. Enjoy the half mile downhill walk to the Light Station buildings. There is parking for vehicles with Disabled placards at the bottom of the hill. There are two paths to the Station. The dirt path begins at the north end of the parking lot and takes you through the introduced grassland and coastal prairie. The paved access road to the south is an easier walk. The Light Station includes the Lighthouse, which is an active duty Aid to Navigation, containing the original Chance Brothers classic 3rd order Fresnel lens. -- Three restored Lightkeeper homes; the first is a period museum of a lightkeeper's house in the 1930s; the other two houses are comfortable vacation rental homes, -- The restored Blacksmith & Carpentry Shop houses the Marine Science Exhibit with its 240 gallon saltwater aquarium, -- Two lovely vacation rental cottages, and public restrooms, one by the lightkeepers houses and another in the Kearn farmhouse. THERE IS NO FEE to tour the Lighthouse museum/giftshop or the period museum lightkeeper's house, although your donations are welcome. The Lighthouse, 1st Assistant Lightkeeper's House and Marine Science Exhibit are open to the public from 11am to 4pm year-round, including holidays. The State Historic Park grounds are open from sunrise to sunset daily.

After a long walk, all that awaits is a rather underwhelming lighthouse that you have to pay $5 to enter. Coast line views are no different than elsewhere in Fort Bragg/Mendocino. Wouldn't go again.

We visited the lighthouse station park yesterday. Its normal hours are from 11am on. Fortunately for us it was open early because of the holiday. The hike to the lighthouse was an easy and scenic half a mile hike. It had interesting questions about whales posted along the trail, and my kids got a kick out of it.

The most amazing is its view. The red roofed light house and the nearby hut, against the blue sky and the even bluer Pacific Ocean, were straight out of story books. the golden grass land along the coastline was absolutely beautiful, reminding me of Impressionism paintings. Fog rolled in a little later, and it gave us an opportunity to see everything in a different light, equally breathtaking!

Absolutely worth a stop if you are visiting the Mendocino area.

The lighthouse makes for a wonderful photo opportunity, especially with a blue sky background. The walk down from the car park is downhill and takes about 10 minutes. The area around the lighthouse is also interesting. A few nice old houses and a small museum.

Great docents and volunteers both in the lighthouse and the museum. A great, restored museum! Enjoyed walking through the rooms. About a half mile walk down to the Light, handicap parking is at the bottom of the hill also. Well planned and thought out with restrooms too.
