Owner description: OPEN 365 DAYS a YEAR -- THERE IS NO FEE -- Built between 1908 and 1909, and extensively restored, it is one of the most complete Lightstations in the U.S. and hosts visitors, vacation rentals, receptions and weddings, plus education programs for classes of local students. There is a parking area inside the gate off Point Cabrillo Drive, adjacent to the restored Kearn farmhouse with its public restroom. Enjoy the half mile downhill walk to the Light Station buildings. There is parking for vehicles with Disabled placards at the bottom of the hill. There are two paths to the Station. The dirt path begins at the north end of the parking lot and takes you through the introduced grassland and coastal prairie. The paved access road to the south is an easier walk. The Light Station includes the Lighthouse, which is an active duty Aid to Navigation, containing the original Chance Brothers classic 3rd order Fresnel lens. -- Three restored Lightkeeper homes; the first is a period museum of a lightkeeper's house in the 1930s; the other two houses are comfortable vacation rental homes, -- The restored Blacksmith & Carpentry Shop houses the Marine Science Exhibit with its 240 gallon saltwater aquarium, -- Two lovely vacation rental cottages, and public restrooms, one by the lightkeepers houses and another in the Kearn farmhouse. THERE IS NO FEE to tour the Lighthouse museum/giftshop or the period museum lightkeeper's house, although your donations are welcome. The Lighthouse, 1st Assistant Lightkeeper's House and Marine Science Exhibit are open to the public from 11am to 4pm year-round, including holidays. The State Historic Park grounds are open from sunrise to sunset daily.

This place is magical, there is a small museum in this lighthouse. On the compound of the lighthouse are houses you can rent for vacation, it´s simply beautiful there.

The lighthouse has a museum in it that is interesting. The lighthouse is beautiful as well. In addition to the lighthouse, we saw sea lions on the beach, whales, sea birds, and climbed on rocks; great photos!

This is a fun activity. Be prepared for a little walk for the light house is a 1 1/2 miles from the parking area. We took the nature trial in an enjoyed the walk, however we took the paved road back an it was an easier walk. However just as long. The lighthouse does have a gift shop and a few exhibits. However the best part is the view from the cliffs. We just happen to luck out an their were seals about a 100 yards out sunbathing.

This is a well-kept lighthouse with a unique Fresnel lens. The ½ mile walk down to the lighthouse and then back up to the parking lot is a bit tiring. There is parking next to the lighthouse for those unable to make the walk. Rental units looked to be extremely tiny.

Park near the highway and walk 1/2 mile down a paved road to the cottages (several vacation rentals available), museum and lighthouse. This road is open for handicap vehicles only. Point Cabrillo is one of the few west coast lighthouses using its original (restored) Fresnel lens. Several trails help you explore the property. Knowledgable volunteers explain the station's history and operate the small gift shop. There are picnic tables adjacent to the lighthouse and about half way back up the hill towards the parking area. This lighthouse is particularly photogenic - if you're persistent you can capture the light as it rotates, making a more interesting image.
